View 5 Repliesi hav a problem in building a solution in vs 2008.I'm opening vb.net project in VSS repository.When i tried to build the application its giving lot of compile error.After examining the code i've found that the namespaces are not imported in *.vb file , hence the types used in the file are not accessible .I know that we can import namespaces at application level
View 1 RepliesI'm having a problem importing a user control into a new project.I've created and tested a user control using the guide at url...If I choose Debug>Build, a .dll file is created in the release folder.According to what I've read, I should be able to open the toolbox in my new project, right click>choose items, browse to the dll and then import. This all works, but the control is 'greyed out' in the toolbox, so I can't drag and drop it onto the userform in my new project.I also tried importing by 'Add Reference' in the solution explorer and got an error about using a later version of the .NET framework, so I've set both the user control and new project to compile with the .NET 3.5 framework.

View 2 RepliesI'm developing a solution that I'm going to split into two different directions.I've built custom controls for the first application, and now I'm creating a new solution where I'm importing all the Forms and Modules to the new solution I'm developing by using "Add Existing Item" from the Solution ExplorerWhen doing this, most of the errors I'm receiving I'm able to correct by "Find & Replace" with the new name of the new solution. (They seem to be references to the old name of the solution, that I simply replace with the new name. Example. Global.Xname..... I now replace with Global.Yname.

View 2 RepliesIs there a routine that will allow me to import data from an excel spreadsheet into a database within my project? I only need to do this to populate the the database I have created in my project.
While the project was being developed I used junk test data for testing and debugging but now I wan to populate the database with the actual records.
Here is the skinny:
In the project database I have the following fields:
ItemID - Primary key
SamCode
[Code].....
Column B contains the Full Name Data where B1 in a column header Column C contains the UPC Numbers needed where C1 is a column header
As stated this is a one time deal and not something I need to run as part of the application.
I have a project that I have created, it something like a contact database.It is complete with its own sql server database, and controls and forms.I kinda of understand that I can include this project into another project.This is the tricky part,Can I include my contact project into another project and add more items to the database and forms in a new project?What I'm after is like using classes.My contact database would be like the base class, and the new project would be adding more features to that project.

View 1 RepliesI inherited a DLL project developed in VB6; this project has to be integrated to a VB.NET GUI. At the moment, the project is integrated succesfully except for one detail that it is taking a lot of my time.
Every time that has to load a form from the COM DLL, the execution of the program loops and gives an OutofMemoryError -- I imagine the error is because the executing is looping by trying to load and reload the Form1 from the DLL. So, is it possible to import graphical controls and components along the DLL, such as Form1? or, do I need to separate them in order to import the DLL succesfully?
Could someone point me in the direction of importing a project into a project. Any information on how to use it would be great as well. For example I have Project A that I could use to work within Project B. I have no idea what the correct form is for calling this in.I do have an add reference option, but no add project option. Im assuming i shall go with reference and see what I can do.
View 1 RepliesI am building a small Windows Forms application. I need to 'read in' CSv files into the application.
I am using StreamReader to read the CSV files into the application. That is no problem. On my Form I have a text box, 3 Buttons and 2 data grids. With the first 'browse' Button I am using OpenFileDialog to select which CSV file I want to display in the first grid.
Then I want to use a 'convert' button to display the information from the CSV file in a much more 'user-friendly' manner in the second grid. Lastly I want to use my 'export' button to export the converted file to excel.

I am trying to make part of a form program do the following When I exit a text field, I want to import some datainto a datagridview control.The columns are (1)Key, (2)Location, (3)Part Number, (4)Serial Number, (5)Description.There are up to 1000 rows of data in anyone of the spreadsheets I am working from.By using a datagridview, I can click the header and sort the data by either of the 5 columns, and when I select a data row, the Key number is reported back (for now, into a text box)I will be using the key number to further manipulate the spreadsheet after I have solved this problem.There are thousands of articles on DataGridView, and over the past 8 days, I think I have read them all. I have tried many downloadable routines, which haven't populated the DataGridView at all.Please can someone show me a simple program which will do the above task, and will give me a base to start from.I am running MS Office Pro plus 64-bit on Windows 7 and Visual studio 2010 pro

The code shown below works fine. I run it from the project SQLtesting. It loads a listbox and a checkedlistbox with the controls found on a form. I can change the value of the FormName field to any form within the SQLtesting project and get the form's controls. The forms are not actually opened/shown.I would like to be able to access forms in other projects i.e.

In vb.net, the Login Form, Splash Screen, and Dialog Form are nice to have. They are available through Visual Studio's Project > Add New Item... dialog. Is there a way to add these prebuilt forms to a c# project without jumping through hoops?If need be, the forms can be re-implemented or created in a vb.net project and then instantiated from the main (c#) project, but that is a lot of work if there's an easy workaround.
View 5 RepliesI would like to use 3 forms on which there will be various controls. I want the user of the program to complete first the stuff on Form1 then click to Button 1 in order to go to the second form (which is "next" button). On second form, there will be two buttons (Back and Next) and these will navigate it next or previous form. My aim is to have a single window at all times (the user should not see several windows and have the feeling that all these different windows are in fact a unique window with navigation buttons on it).
I know how to make forms visible/invisible or determine manually the location on the screen. But my question is if there is a conventional way of arranging these forms and their navigation. I used codes like "Form2.show" but I am not sure if it is the correct way to show form2 and make Form1 invisible or disabled.

is it possible to have the same effect as a dialogue box, with form focus? eg, when using the open dialogue box, if you try to focus on another form within the app, it doesn't' let you and starts flashing. But when you switch to another app, it doesn't interfere.
View 2 RepliesIf I create a new class library project in VB.NET, I can create subfolders (a la C#), add WinForm objects to these subfolders, and then specify a namespace:
Namespace Sub1.Sub2
Public Class SomeForm
Public Sub New()
InitializeComponent()
[code]...
This resolves as ProjectRootNamespace.Sub1.Sub2.SomeForm, which is good.However, if I create a new WinForms project in VB.NET, and attempt the same thing, I get this error in the designer:The class SomeForm can be designed, but is not the first class in the file. Visual Studio requires that designers use the first class in the file. Move the class code so that it is the first class in the file and try loading the designer again.Is there a way to have forms in sub-namespaces of a VB.NET WinForms app instead of in the root namespace?
