The code shown below works fine. I run it from the project SQLtesting. It loads a listbox and a checkedlistbox with the controls found on a form. I can change the value of the FormName field to any form within the SQLtesting project and get the form's controls. The forms are not actually opened/shown.I would like to be able to access forms in other projects i.e.

while running the code from the SQLtesting project.

i have tried googling this and cant find a way to do this, i hav 2 projects in the same solutions, i am trying to write a bit for Solution1_Project1_Form1 to open a windowsForm in Solution1_Project2_Form2.
Start main application & View 2nd application FROM within the main application.
Start the 2nd application WITHOUT using the main application.
both applications need to read and write to a database, i dont think this makes a big diferance but thought i would mention it
well until a few day ago. I don't know what I have introduced to cause the problem but now, whenever I load the project, VS 2010 (SP1) crahes. If I delete the project's suo file, the project loads (really quickly) and all is well until I exitVS 2010. When I re-run it and try to load the project, it crashes again unless I delete the suo file.The program can be built for x64 and x86. Now, when I reload the project (after deleting the suo file), it comes up in Debug - Any CPU mode. I can change from Debug to Release and from Any CPU to x86 but if I try and change from x86 to x64, VS 2010 crashes.This is not always the case though. If I build the x86 version and then switch to x64, all is well and I can build the x64 version. Obviously, there's something wonky going on.

View 8 RepliesIn my VS2010 VB project I have a lot of external references to DLLs, to the point that organization has become a major headache and I'm wondering if I am going about it the wrong way. My assembly references include common redistributables (SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1, ReportViewer 2010 SP1, DataVisualization, as well as some useful 3rd party dlls from CodeProject and CodePlex.
Currently, I am copying each DLL into a 1st level folder (/dll_lib) under my named project folder (under the solution folder), and adding the reference from that path. However, I see that Visual Studio copies the DLLs to various other locations (/bin/debug or /bin/release) in my project when I build the project or solution, and some of the 3rd party DLLs come with instructions to copy them manually to /bin.
What is the "best practice" for where to put the DLLs? Can I just put all of them under /bin and let the build event copy to /bin/debug or /bin/release as required? Should I try to force a single reference path for the dlls in the project output?
I've got a dictionary<string,string> that I need to access and use on several windows forms. In asp.net, I could store it in Session and use it from any aspx page. How would I do this in forms?

It's ASP.NET based with c# code-behind in all projects except one.I'm attempting to access members from a C# project called "Core" from a VB.NET project. I set a dependency to the Core solution in my solution properties. However, Core. brings up nothing. Furthermore, my other C# projects that have Core-Project as a dependency (in the solution settings), are able to declare Core objects. Example: Private Core.ObjectName InstanceName; Also, Intellisense brings up plenty of info in the C# projects.how I can hook into these members from my VB project?

I'm using VS 2010, and I did a project using VB and a database in Access. The problem is that when I try to put that "application" on other computers, sometimes, is not working. I thought it can be because on these computers they don't have access, but on one computer, is running another app which is using Access and there is no Access installed. How can I check if my application requires Access to be installed or not?
Here is a example of how I did the connection:

Has anyone else had issues with Visual Basic 2010?My visual basic program has been running fine for months but recently every time I try and load a project (any project) the program freezes, then I have to close it down and reload, every time I load Visual basic for the second time I get the following error:

An error was encountered while opening associated documents the last time this solution was loaded. Document load is being skipped during this solution load in order to avoid that error.Plus when trying to run a project in debug it takes ages to load (around 5 minutes) this has only started happening recently, projects were loading in seconds.
A colleague has written a useful tool. He wrote it as a standalone tool, but it works even better as an includable dll, though it needs a bit of other functionality for it to be a really good drop-in component. What I am wondering is whether a project can be compiled as both an exe and as a dll?
There are alternatives, such as having a dll version and an exe version, since the dll version needs to include a few different methods that the exe version doesn't need, but this alternative sucks, since it would mean changing two sets of code.
Another alternative is to build the dll, then change the exe to be a project that references the dll....and does nothing other than calling one method in the dll. That kind of sucks, too, but not as bad.
I want to be able to use his module in some of my programs, and it really should be built as a component rather than a standalone app, but I want to know whether there are other options that I haven't considered.
I have a program in VB.NET 2005. At some point I have to open an Access2003-Application for getting data in it. I do that by pretending my program is a human user and let it do all the work in Access as a human user would do. Filling Fields, pressing buttons etc. I use the Primary Interop Assemblies for that. So far so good. That code is in use for over half a year now. In the last week I got Office 2007 installed on my machine. Of course I tested the installed version of my program if everthing still works. Every test was succesfull. But if I do the same tests in Visual Studio it always crashes.

In vb.net, the Login Form, Splash Screen, and Dialog Form are nice to have. They are available through Visual Studio's Project > Add New Item... dialog. Is there a way to add these prebuilt forms to a c# project without jumping through hoops?If need be, the forms can be re-implemented or created in a vb.net project and then instantiated from the main (c#) project, but that is a lot of work if there's an easy workaround.
View 5 RepliesI have a VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2010 for an Excel Add-In.I use the "My" namespace,and in general it seems that the "My Project" folder contains configuration information about the project.My problem is that I need to change the name of this folder, because my version manager system won't accept spaces in file or folder names.Edit: There is a hacky way to do it, by renaming the folder and changing all references in the .vbproj file.However, the may work for a command line generation, but it won't work the next time the project will be opened in Visual Studio. The IDE will create a new "My Project" folder, and complain that it can't find the settings in it.

I want the user of the program to complete first the stuff on Form1 then click to Button 1 in order to go to the second form (which is "next" button). On second form, there will be two buttons (Back and Next) and these will navigate it next or previous form. My aim is to have a single window at all times (the user should not see several windows and have the feeling that all these different windows are in fact a unique window with navigation buttons on it).
I know how to make forms visible/invisible or determine manually the location on the screen. But my question is if there is a conventional way of arranging these forms and their navigation. I used codes like "Form2.show" but I am not sure if it is the correct way to show form2 and make Form1 invisible or disabled.

Visual Studio requires that designers use the first class in the file. Move the class code so that it is the first class in the file and try loading the designer again.Is there a way to have forms in sub-namespaces of a VB.NET WinForms app instead of in the root namespace?
