Gets A String (mysub(string)), But AddressOf Doesn't Accept A Parameter Inside The Routine?

I have buttons generated through code (dynamically). I have to associate an event (the same) to them. I use AddHandler button.click, AddressOf mysub.The issue is that mysub gets a string (mysub(string)), but AddressOf doesn't accept a parameter inside the routine. How can I do this? Using also an alternative to AddressOf.

EDIT:

String Registers All As A String And Doesn't Actually Calculate Random Numbers

The string itself contains things like "random" & random.next(1,3) & "random2" etc. The string registers all of this as a string and doesn't actually calculate random numbers.Is there any way to fix this?

Nothing Equals String.Empty, Null Does Not Equal String.Empty?

Jun 28, 2010

This must've have been asked before but I couldn't locate it. In a mixed code project (VB and C#) we were debugging some old Visual Basic code where a statement as follows could be found:

If Request.Params("xxx") <> "" Then
'do something

I considered this a bug as Request.Params could be null, in which case the statement would've become false which wasn't the idea. So I thought. I just found out, -- probably for the tenth time and I will keep forgetting -- that the following two statements are not equal, while Nothing in VB should be equal to null in C# (thought I):

if(String.Empty == null) // always false
If String.Empty = Nothing Then ' always true

Should I dismiss this as a typical Microsoft backward compatibility effort, or should I consider this a huge error in the VB.NET compiler? Does anybody know the Microsoftean opinion on this oddity?

Nothing = String.Empty (Why Are These Equal?)

Apr 13, 2010

Why does the first if statement evaluate to true? I know if I use "is" instead of "=" then it won't evaluate to true. If I replace String.Empty with "Foo" it doesn't evaluate to true. Both String.Empty and "Foo" have the same type of String, so why does one evaluate to true and the other doesn't?

//this evaluates to true

Loop Through String And Split Into Equal Lengths

Change Background Color Of Item In Listbox / When Its String Value Is Equal To Something?

Oct 14, 2011

i have a listbox that contains the words "week1", "week2",all the way up to "week52" and when i select a week from the listbox it will retrieve a value from a mysql database that will represent a progress bar value. my progress bar has a range of 0-120 and i would like to have all the weeks that have values higher than 100 to be highlighted or marked somehow, in the listbox. so my question is, "is there a way to set the background color of certain weeks in the listbox to orange based on the value that they represent on the database?

for example for "week1", the value is 114, so when the listbox loads, i want the background color of the item "week1" in the list to be orange (indicating that it's current value is higher than 100)? i know that this requires me to implement a user defined drawing function for the listbox items but i dont know where i would even start. i would like this to be somewhat automatic so that it checks the values and changes the background colors of any value higher than 100, instead of me specifying a name of the item.

C# / .Net Fills String Array But C# Doesn't?

Feb 4, 2012

I'm working with referenced VB6 DLL's. The problem is that the results of a method/function call are not the same. Below the code examples:

First VB.Net Dim Validations() As String myErr = myEntry.ValidateLine(Validations)

When validation fails, the string array Validations is filled with the error description string. I've tried to accomplish the same in C#:

private string[] valArray = null;
sdkError = sdkEntry.ValidateLine(valArray);

Does anyone have an idea why I can't get C# to fill the string array? Additionally, the function in VB is called with ref to a System.Array ValidateLine(ref System.Array ValErrors), perhaps it has something to do with this?

String.Contains Doesn't Require Parameters In C#?

May 9, 2012

I've stumbled upon this code:

var knownSeparators = new[] { "\", "/", "|", "." };
return knownSeparators.FirstOrDefault(path.Contains);

where path is a string and the return value should be a string as well.

Allthough path.Contains' intellisense suggests a parameter, it works fine without one.

How does this work exactly? Is there any way to copy this behavior in vb.net?

VS 2010 Doesn't Trim Get Rid Of Null Bytes In String?

Jun 17, 2010

I'm receiving a byte array from a network device by using the TcpClient class and as I have no idea how much data will be being sent I have to just declare a buffer that is X number of bytes long and keep reading into that until I've got all of the data. I then convert this byte array to a string using Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetString but the problem is that this gets any null bytes that were at the end of the buffer after the string and it includes them in the string. This then means when I do String.EndsWith it doesnt work as I would expect it to because there are just loads of 0 bytes at the end of the string.

Once I had realised that was what was happening (which took a long time as these null bytes are completely invisible when you are looking at the data in String form) I thought fine I'll just use Trim on the string but I've found that this doesnt make any difference at all. I thought Trim was supposed to remove any blank space from the start/end of a string, which I assumed would include empty bytes as well.

So is there any alternative I can use that will trim the empty bytes off the end or do I have to do it the 'manual' way and loop through my byte array before converting it to string and remove any null bytes? One thing that has just popped into my head as I'm typing this is to try using the Chr method and pass it 0 and combine that with Trim like so:

4- Replace a word in the string
5- Count number of words and characters in the string without spaces.
6- Capitalize first character of each new sentence and convert the rest
of the characters to lower case.
7- Sort all the words in alphabetical order. (Use Bubble sort algorithm to perform sorting).

To perform all the above mentioned tasks you can only use pointers. Create a function to perform every task.
