Save Solution And Rename Sub To Resemble New Form Name

Jan 10, 2012

I inherited some code left behind by a previous programmer and it includes code in a Sub named Form1_Load. Now, I know this was auto-generated at one point, but Form1 no longer exists. At least I don't think so. My question is, why does this Sub even run? Is it because there are copies of the original Form1 in the working directory no longer associated to the solution? I'm going to save the solution and rename the Sub to resemble the new form name to see what happens.

.net - Rename Visual Studio Solution Configurations?

Apr 2, 2012

I have a VB project which I'm trying to configure with three build configurations.I've successfully created the build configurations, but I decided the names I was using weren't descriptive enough so I went to Configuration Manager -> <Edit...> -> Rename and renamed them.

This renamed the configurations in the Configuration Manager.I then went to do some conditional compilation testing using #If CONFIG = but it failed.Checking deeper, it turns out that the values returned by CONFIG are the original names not the new names.Checking My Project -> Compile -> Configuration I can see that the names shown in that ComboBox are also the old names.

So, even though I have "renamed" my configurations in Configuration Manager, they're not being renamed on all levels.I can get around this by recreating these configurations with their intended names but that's about as bass ackwards a solution as I can think of. Is there some method of renaming configurations that actually works or is this just the way MS intended this to."work"?

Rename File To Random Name After Save?

Oct 26, 2009

I'm making somewhat of a File Shredder, wherein, it overwrites your file with a random combonation of 1's and 0's, and i was wondering, is there a way to, once you've overwritten the file, rename it to a 'random' name? How it works: (Not very effective, I know)It overwrites the file w/ 1's and 0's.Basically, theres a textbox, where a 'random' combonation of 1's and 0's(Here after known as 'data') come sup everytime. So, it overwrites wht is on that file w/ the 'data' and saves it, using a save file dialog. Is there a way so that when you save it, it saves it as a 'random' name? Like if the file was 'MY INFORMATION' Once overwritten it'd be like l_fnfu4ufhf or something.

VS 2008 Rename An Entire Project / Save As?

Feb 6, 2012

I want to rework and rename an existing application and utilize everything I've already done -- but it looks like it isn't going to be that simple? One post suggested renaming the folder, plus the project and another subfolder but when I opened that folder there were another 7 or 8 files that also needed changing.I DON'T want to do anything that will create a conflict and if I'm going to change to newname from oldname, I don't want to see "oldname" popping up anywhere..Is there a safe way to rename and reuse an exisitng project? Without anything being left out ?

Open (2nd) Form From (1st) Form In Multi Project Solution In VB

May 14, 2011

I have read a lot of the prior questions/answers on this topic but it only took me so far. I have a solution to which I added 2 additional programs. These 2 added programs in essence create a PDF2TIFF converter using GS. I wish to call that form and use it as a utility from my main program. After reading other answers in the forum, I added these two programs as references in the main program and imported everything available, into the main program. I have what seems to be a correct build order set up. I want to open the form in the utility project(s) from a link on my main form. I tried a few things but the only way I could write the code without errors was to instantiate the second program then call that with a button click.

Forms Designer - Controls Declared But Not Appearing On Form - Can't Even Rename

Jun 22, 2010

I am desinging a form with mutiple controls on a tab page control and was moving controls between tab pages by cutting and pasting them. The forms designer obviously got confused at some stage and I now have controls that are declared in the designer.vb but do not appear anywhere on the form.

I can't even rename the controls that are there which have been given generic names to the names I want because they apparently already exist. I realise I could edit the designer.vb and remove the references to these controls but that seems fraught with danger?

Login Time Out Solution For Windows Form App?

Apr 14, 2011

I have a print driver Windows app that uses a web service to connect to an authenticate its credentials. But the problem is, I don't want a user to login every time they want to print. Basically I want the login part of the app to only pop up if the printing functionality hasn't been used in 20 minutes.

tell me what would be the best way to go about this? I'm unfamiliar with Timer functions. This app isn't always on. It's on briefly then closed. So I need a solution where the timer is set somehow on the computer. And I don't want to write data to a text file when it can just be edited..

Call A C++ Form From Project In A Mixed Language Solution

I searched the forums and found a similar question which was never adequately answered.Presumably the VBHOST-CPPUNIT is simpler than CPPHOST-VBUNIT would be(?)

The "view code" shows "MainMenu.vb" but there is not any code there and only an empty "General" and "Declarations" show. The icon to the left of the "MainMenu.vb" is like a module icon not a form icon.

.net - VS 2008 Addin Copies And Renames Form Files, Gets Duplicate Members Errors Despite Rename

Jul 14, 2011

I have a VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2008 that I created a specialized addin for. The addin prompts the user to select a database table, takes a template form class's files, copies them to another directory within the project, and renames the form class within the copied files. It then opens the new form and adds controls to it based on the fields in the database table.

The copying of the template form causes the background compiler to give 'duplicate member' errors, such as "Private Sub InitializeComponents(...) has multiple definitions with identical signatures," even though I renamed the files of the new form and the class name within them. Sometimes these errors go away before the new form is opened, but when they stick around the new form doesn't open correctly, and it throws an error instead. I implemented some code to wait until there are zero errors in the error list before trying to open the new form. This has helped sometimes, but for some reason sometimes the errors don't go away at all until the addin is closed.

How to copy the template form and rename the copy without the background compiler ever noticing duplicate members. If that's not possible, then perhaps someone has an alternative?

Here is my code that copies and renames the template form:

Private Sub CreateDataForm(ByVal tableName As String, ByVal displayName As String) ', ByVal subDataForms As IList(Of Object))
Try
Dim dataFormClassName As String = "frm" & MakeValidName(displayName)
Dim dataFormFileName As String = dataFormClassName & cVBSuffix

Reference Windows Form Project From Another Windows Form Project In Same Solution

Dec 8, 2010

I have a solution with several projects most of which are code or control libraries. I have a main windows forms application that references and uses these libraries. What i am trying to do is create a 2nd windows application that extends the main one, but i would like to be able to deploy them as separate exe's.

When i try to add a reference to the new app referencing the main app; all seems fine until i try to run the new app i get several error msgs similar to below:

Error 1 Could not find file 'ADODB.dll' referenced by assembly 'D:Visual Studio 2005ProjectsXXXinDebugXXX.exe.manifest'. <newAppName>

i have tried adding references to all the dll's in the error messages and they are still listed when i try to run the new app. I thought of a few work arounds but they require user changes to maintain separate exe's at deployment. I would like to avoid this if possible.

Make A Button That Will Save Changes In One Form That Will Affect Another Form?

Jun 9, 2011

I need to make a save button. The user will work in main form. User also has Settings in the MenuStrip, when the user clicks Settings a new form will open. There user has ability to make changes that will affect the Main form. This is the code:

If CheckBox1.Checked = True Then
bib.Panel2.Hide()
End If

This is the change that the user will be able to do that will affect the Main form, but I'm not really sure how to make that the CheckBox1 will be saved when the user clicks it and the clicks OK button. I also want to know how to make a cancel button.
