ASP.NET - MultiSelect On ListBox Or CheckBoxList W/ AutoPostback Enabled?
Apr 12, 2011
Background: I have a winForm app that registers a user in the database based on the user input provided in the form, auto-generates a random password and username for the user, and e-mails the user a link to take an application based on the marketing company selected.
Problem: I got the bundles listbox to populate w/ autopostback set to true but the bundles listbox populates as soon as you click on an lbcarrier and it doesn't allow you select more than one carrier.how to allow multiselect with the postback feature on? Here's a screenshot of the interface:
code on default.aspx:
<td class="style1">
Carriers:</td>[code].....
In .NET there doesn't seem to be a property to find the item just selected in a multi-select listbox; SelectedIndex always shows the first selected item. From memory VB6 had the ListIndex property that changed accordingly... Why remove a useful property ?

I have a multiselect list box on a Windows form (VS 2008) containing references to 35 different work stations. The end user can select any number of workstations in this listbox, then store those selections to a SQL table (this part is working fine). The problem is getting those same workstations highlighted/selected when the user recalls that record from the database, in the event that there are addtions or changes. Here is the relevant code for the reload[code]...
Private Sub ListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ListBox1.SelectedIndexChanged If ListBox1.SelectedItem IsNot Nothing Then
Here is the basic problem. When a listview is set to multiselect = true, the electedIndexChanged event fires for every row. This is very bad in a situation like the following psuedo code:
MultiSelect in listView (many items) Clear any items that are selected in GridView find that item in gridView using a brute force compare
As i'm learning more and more about developing ive just got my head around creating classes and modules, i started wondering about something to do with configuration of applications where deployment is in a more diverse environment say in a company where different branches dont need access to all parts of a program, so i thought id throw the question out there in a basic sense and get some feedback. so i can go off and do some more reading and learning.
So the scenario in my head is like this.
So we have for arguments sake FrmConfig which is the master configuration form, then we have FrmMain which is the root menu our application general user interfaces with. So here based on what options are checked as enabled in FrmConfig effects what controls (like buttons/menu options) are enabled in FrmMain.
I have a project where I am taking multiple checkboxlists and totaling up points based on which boxes are checked in a certain list. I then display the sum of these points to a text-box. I do this for every checkboxlist.
The problem is this: when one checkboxlist gets changed, the other sums get removed from their respective text boxes. I have attempted this both with read-only set to True (which is the ideal setting in my case) as well as set to False (as per Problem in using AutoPostback in asp.net c#)
What code will I put in the open file dialog box_fileok if the multi select feature is enabled. I currently have this code, but it only shows in the textbox the last file that has been selected.
Dim strm As System.IO.Stream strm = OpenFileDialog3.OpenFile() TextBox3.Text = OpenFileDialog3.FileName.ToString()
I have an asp:checkbox control on an aspx page I am working on. This checkbox is within a custom control and previously was posting back every time it was clicked. I am in the process of ajaxifying the page and have come across a problem. When I remove the attribute AutoPostBack="True" from the asp:checkbox, the vb code returns False when I check myCheckbox.checked (this is on a postback else where on the page what has not be ajaxified), even though I can see the box is indeed checked.
I am assuming that because the checkbox no longer posts back, for some reason the VB code (or the view state maybe) doesn't see it as having been checked. Is this correct, and if so, how to I correct it?
It looks like this question was addressed here, but his solution did not work for me. I am creating a dynamic dropdown menu system that populates a secondary dropdownlist with the results of a query based on the selected item in the first dropdown.
First dropdown getting populated: Dim db As New linqclassesDataContext Dim categories = (From c In db.faq_cats)
I have a master page than contains my ScriptManager. On a child page i have an updated panel. Inside the update panel there is a dropdowlist. When i set the autopostback=true i get OutofMemory Exceptions. All the time. also note that I have AjaxControlToolkit set on my web.config.
I'm using the OnTextChange event on a textbox on an ASP.NET page. To have this working I have to put 'AutoPostBack=true'.
The problem is that the textbox is on the bottom of the page, and when the text changes it has to fill another textbox. This is working fine but when the event triggers the page refreshes and jumps to the top of the page, so I always have to scroll down again to see it. (Due to the autopostback)
Is there anything I can do to prevent it to jump to the top of the page?
I have a number of dropdown lists that I'm trying to chain together and they all have autopostback. How can I tell which one of the dropdown lists was the one responsibe for the autopostback?
When i take 55 checkboxes inside updatepanel then ..after selecting first checkbox the whole whole checkboxes will be refreshed and instead of showing images, it displays the checkboxes only in TFT monitors ... in wave form !!
how to insert checkbox checked value to textbox without autopostback
I've got an odd situation with a text box and an autocomplete setup on my page. I'm using a JQuery based autocomplete on a text box that has AutoPostBack="True". This works perfect if I use the keyboard to select an autocomplete item, which then fires Jquery to fill in the text box, and then when I tab out of the box the AutoPostBack fires. If, however, I click on an autocomplete item, my text box loses focus first and the AutoPostBack fires before the Jquery has a chance to change the text in my text box. Is there a way to delay either the PostBack or the Jquery so that they don't fight each other? I'm thinking it may have to be the PostBack that gets changed, since the JQuery would lose it's state on the PostBack.
In WinXP with LV FullRowSelect enabled I can press and hold down the left mouse button and drag it down the right side of the left-most LV column and the rows are selected, but under Win7 I can only multiselect items with the mouse if FullRowSelect is set to false.
So I guess I need to write code to support this sort of feature for Win7 ? , and if true are there any code examples (I can't find anything) to save me some time?
Background: I have an web form that autpostbacks a list of bundles to a listbox based on the carriers selected. When Postback happens, all user entered data is cleared. How do I prevent the AutoPostback function from clearing entered data from the forms? [code]
i have a vb script that is imbeded in an html page (hta). when i use the common dialog flags = cdlOFNAllowMultiselect the file list is present in the filename object and are separated by a space. however when i use dialog flags = cdlOFNAllowMultiselect Or cdlOFNExplorer the files that i selected on the dialog box, are not present in the filename object. the only thing that's there, is the path to the files. here's the code:
i set One expecting it to allow only one item being select at the same time but it doesnt work as expected, my question is there its another property to achieve this without having to code the event?.
i could do it by coding the event but, im tired of coding stuff that really isnt needed, since there are routines for that on VB.NET.
I am learning asp.net and needed to have a CheckBoxList which items will be initially selected if the are in a CSV string from a database.I have got it working although I just wondered if I have gone about it the best way as it seemed a little long winded?[code]
Using a checkboxlist not a simple checkbox I need to select 1 checkbox otherwise display a error message in an label once I submit the form. My checkboxlist does generate correctly now I just need to validate it
'check checkboxlist For Each ckbox In checkBoxCropsFertilzed.Items If ckbox.Selected > 1 Then lblErrorMessage.Text = "too many selected" End If Next
Pretty basic question, I have a checkboxlist inside of a wizard control. I need to collect the value of all items that are checked, as well as whatever value is inside of a textbox if "other" is checked, to insert into my database during the Wizard.FinishButtonClick event. How do I do this?
So, I'm running VB.net 3.5. I have a dynamic list of server names, and I want to put them in a CheckBoxList. The list is populated and, using that same list, I make a graph of the performance for each server listed. I want to be able to check and uncheck the checkboxes representing servers and, when I lick an update button, it'll create a new graph and graph only the servers that are still checked. I noticed that the page still loads before the button click is handled, so the CheckBoxList will repopulate itself before being able to read the current CheckBoxList. This is my load. And I populate my checkboxlist inside ShowView()
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load If Not Me.IsPostBack Then
[Code]....
And I wanna try to preserve the checkboxlist values when I do an event handler for an update button.
Private Sub btnUpdateGraph_Click(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdateGraph.Click 'insert code End Sub
How do I specify that I want two columns on a checkboxlist?Below is my code:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load If Not Page.IsPostBack Then Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo("\bk00app0001Images") Dim imageArray As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles()
