Adding Decimal Points To Strings?

Jun 15, 2011

I am working on a program where specific strings are being read from a file and displayed in a listview. Some of the strings represent money values though the file has no decimal points. I would like to add a decimal point before the last 2 digits of prices, quantities, and freights when displayed in the listview (not add two decimal places but actually insert the decimal point into the string). I would like to be able to keep most of the code I already have though, and I have no clue how to accomplish this. Here is the code I am using to fill the listview:

VB2010
Public Class Form1
Dim dates1() As String[code].......

Numbers Only In A Text, But Accepting Decimal Points

Sep 28, 2009

I've found plenty of examples of accepting numbers only in a text box, but the code won't allow decimal points. This is crucial because I'm dealing with US currency.

01.' Force numbers only in a text box
02.' place this in the 'Keypress' event of a text box
03.

[Code]....

How can I change the IF statement to accept the ascii code of decimal points? Then... how can I make sure the user doesn't enter 354.5.3535.5.0 as a number? Is there some sort of built in library in VB that has a pattern matching for US currency or do I have to write it myself?

C# - Globalized Custom Number Formatting - Variable Decimal Points?

May 5, 2011

I'm trying to alter the existing number formatting in my company's application to make it more readable for international users. This is a stock trading application, so most stock prices come in with numbers precise to 2 decimal points, like so-> 17.23 We could also get ticks in that have precision out to 4 decimal points, so a penny stock might be 0.0341. The original string format that we were using for stocks was "#,##0.00##" Which would give us the format we wanted (essentially trimming '0's). The problem here is the ',' and '.' are forced onto the user, where in many other countries the thousands separator is '.' and the decimal point is ','. Boss man doesn't want to use "N4" for all numbers, even though this would resolve the globalization issue. Is it possible to have a globalized custom string format?

Other options besides writing some middle man code to internationalize numbers formatted the original way or another string.format method?

When Adding A Value To Another Value The Results Eventually Change From 2-decimal Places To Multiple Decimal Places?

Mar 13, 2009

Problem: Using the sub routing below, when adding a value to another value the results eventually change from 2-decimal places to multiple decimal places.Basically, the amount stored should always only be 2 decimal places, because the values passed in are always 2 decimal places. Output from calling the sub routine multiple times.

Running total = 329430.75
New Withheld Amount = 710.79
Running total = 330141.54

[code]....

As a workaround, I have a new routine that uses a custom round function to properly store only 2 decimal places - as the VB round function does not perform the type of rounding desired.I understand that we are removing the value from the dictionary and adding it back..

MSChart Spline Graph - Lines Are Choppy And Not Smooth After Adding Points?

Oct 18, 2011

I am adding data points to a MSChart spline type graph, and the graph that is displayed after I am finished adding the data points is very choppy and not like a proper spline curved graph. It's more step-like than flowing. if I manually add data points to each series I can create a very smooth and flowing spline type graph. Here is the code that I am using to add the points:

For c As Integer = 0 To count - 1
Chart1.Series(0).Points.AddXY(c, Array1(c))

[code]....

Is there a step that I am missing or a parameter that needs to be set for the spline type graphs for this issue not to occur?

read each chunk of 256 bytes from a 32k file and then add the total value of each byte's decimal value. This will be some huge number which then needs to be converted to hex (Hex(number)and then truncate down to the LSB (I.E. 7F{4B}) and then convert the truncated byte (4B) back to a decimal (Num = Val("&H" & Num).

LINQ Query With Sum And Group By Is Adding Decimal Precision

Aug 24, 2009

I am trying to do a simple summary of table data using a LINQ query.a regular SQL Query looks like:[code]This query works fine and returns the correct results.[code]This LINQ query returns the incorrect results some of the time. Off by .01 in most cases.The "value" column is of type Numeric (12,2) in the database.Now when I show the values from the Sum in a msgbox I get extra precision and thus incorrect results as my end result because of rounding.For example I get 835.18 + 54.62 = 889.80960 from the above LINQ query.I am running Visual Studio 2008 9.0.30729.1 SP on Vista 64Bit with .NET 3.5 SP1.

Reading Strings In Textfile And Adding Them In A Listbox?

Jan 6, 2012

I can retreive all items in my notepad but when I am adding them up in my listbox, and trying to print them in the console. I can only display two strings. I don't know why. My string is a combination of a name, space & score. ex: "luke 300". That is the pattern of all strings per line in my text file. I am separating the name and the score using space as the indicator. When ever a space is found, string before and after the space is retrieved and added to the listbox

Here is my

scorelist = New ArrayList
reader1 = My.Computer.FileSystem.OpenTextFileReader(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "scores.txt")

I need to add them altogether, so far all of the conversion methods I have tried err out when they run into an empty string, except Val, but then Val won't handle the string with a $ in it. I've tried decimal.parse which handles the $ but not the empty string. So I seem to be in circle that I can't get out of.
