Ado INSERT Into Excel Works With Integers But Crashes With Doubles?

Nov 22, 2010

The following works:

string connectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OleDb.4.0;Data Source=" + str_excelFileOnLocalMachineInReports + ";";
connectionString += "Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;";
OleDbCommand myCommand = new OleDbCommand("Select * from [pFACTData$];");

[Code]..

But as soon as I change any of the numbers to doubles (e.g. 23.32457) I get a crash (it doesnt crash on the insert, it crashes on the next one:)The INSERT INTO statement contains the following unknown field name: '23#2345'. Make sure you have typed the name correctly, and try the operation again.

DataGridView Not Allowing Integers / Doubles And Strings In Same Column

Jul 14, 2011

I am using an oleDb connection to connect to an excel spreadsheet (.xlsx) file and load the information into a datagridview. From there I hope to have it edited by a person and programmatically at runtime. However, I noticed that when I import a file that has integers in a column, it will not import any of the string values in that column. Also, It will not allow me to manually enter strings into that column at runtime - it results in an error stating: [Code]

VB Program Works Fine When Stepping Through But Crashes When Ran With The .exe?

Aug 12, 2011

Problem: The excutable of the vb program crashes when trying to run but when I step through the program inside of visual studio it runs successfully.

Details: The program performs a winscp.com transfer from a ftp server and then takes the downloaded file and extracts the data from it before sending it to a webpage. The program also decrypts a des3 encrypted file which holds the login details for the sftp server and the webpage.

My Thoughts: I was thinking this could be something to do with the excutable jumping ahead of the slower transfer and decrypt functions thus causing a "file not found" exception to be produced and the program to exit. Lending to this if I slowly (aka spend 10+ seconds stepping through the code) move through the code it works just fine.

As requested Crash Messages:(I capture everything in exceptions and exit properly so no "crash" is reported but the error I get in my logs is as follows:)

1st run with standard test case:Could not find file 'C:UsersAdministratorDesktop..ILC2INFOENC.txt'

2nd run standard case (the file above was not deleted by my cleanup function either as it could not be found)Could not find file 'C:UsersAdministratorDesktop..ILCNETSL10663.csv'

Background:The first file that is found missing is the encrypted login information file while the second file is the winscp.com downloaded csv file.

Visual Studio 2010 - .net Application Works With Files Dragged Onto The Exe But Crashes If There's A Space In The File's Path?

Jun 15, 2011

I'm developing an application in vb.net. You drag any type of file onto the exe, and a window pops up with some options for the file, then it saves the file to a different location, works some SQL magic, etc. It works great for the most part. The only issue I've found is that if the path of the file contains any spaces, the application will crash immediately with the error window:[URl]..I'm using: Private filename as String = Command$ This is located right inside my form's class declaration, not within a sub/function.Without this line, my program runs fine (although useless, without accessing the file).I've also tried (I think this was it, I don't have the code with me at the moment): Private filename as String = Environment.CommandLine So, in vb.net, is there a way to drag a file onto an exe and use that path name, even if there are spaces in the path name?

Debugging Crashes Vshost.exe On Oledbconnection.open, Works Fine Without Vshost

Nov 8, 2011

I am running a simple test app that opens an OLEDB connection, retrieves a single value, then closes. The compiled (console) app works fine, but running it from the IDE causes either a silent close (if it's a winforms app) or a crash of vshost32.exe if it's a console app.

The devenv is VB 2010 Express on Windows x64, but I have the configuration manager on the solution set to "Debug" - "x86".

Merge Multiple Excel Files Into One Excel File And It Works For 3 Source Files But Its Not Working If Workbook With Worksheet Count Is > 3?

Aug 18, 2011

I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.

Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data.But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

Insert Works While Program Is Running?

Aug 1, 2011

I've been struggling with this for hours. I'm making a vb program to track volunteer hours. I have some fields that a user can fill in and then click update and it should add the volunteer info to the database. To confirm that it was added I'm using a datagridview that can be updated to show the volunteers in the database. My success msg says that the insert worked, and the information is showing up in the datagridview but when I close the application and go to 'show table data' for the volunteers table there is nothing there. I've tried adding .Update() to my VolunteersTableAdaptor and I've tried resetting my SqlCeCommand after the ExecuteNonQuery() call, but these haven't worked. When I hover over the last word 'Volunteers' in this code:

Me.VolunteersTableAdapter.Update(Me.AddVolunteers.Volunteers)

The number that shows up more than once is 2.

How can I run through the array and compare each integer with the numbers in the array. I tried a for loop but it didn't return the value I was looking for.

How To Insert Row At Top Into Excel Spreadsheet

May 7, 2010

I am taking a pre-existing excel spreadsheet and inserting a blank row at the top. This part works, the part I am having problem is the fact that based on the code I have, I have to open the spreadsheet so when you execute the code the spreadsheet opens. Then when done, close it. When I try to close it wants me to save the document, even if I call the save method. This whole process should happen behind the scenes so I really don't want the spreadsheet opening.

See code below.
moApp.Visible = True
oWB = moApp.Workbooks.Open("I: estcsv.xls")
oWB.Sheets("testcsv").Rows("1:1").Select()
moApp.Selection.insert(xl.XlDirection.xlDown)
oWB.Save()
oWB.Close()
'When call the close, it still asks me to save the spreadsheet even though I called oWB.Save above.

Asp.net - Checking The Equality Of Two Doubles In .NET?

Aug 5, 2010

I've got a heavily used web application that, for the first time in 2 years, failed doing an equality check on two doubles using the equality function a colleague said he'd also been using for years. The goal of the function I'm about to paste in here is to compare two double values to 4 digits of precision and return the comparison results. For the sake of illustration, my values are:

Dim double1 As Double = 0.14625000000000002 ' The result of a calculation
Dim double2 As Double = 0.14625 ' A value that was looked up in a DB

If I pass them into this function:

Public Shared Function AreEqual(ByVal double1 As Double, ByVal double2 As Double) As Boolean
Return (CType(double1 * 10000, Long) = CType(double2 * 10000, Long))
End Function

the comparison fails. After the multiplication and cast to Long, the comparison ends up being:

Return 1463 = 1462

I'm kind of answering my own question here, but I can see that double1 is within the precision of a double (17 digits) and the cast is working correctly. My first real question is: If I change the line above to the following, why does it work correctly (returns True)?

Return (CType(CType(double1, Decimal) * 10000, Long) = _
CType(CType(double2, Decimal) * 10000, Long))

Doesn't Decimal have even more precision, thus the cast to Long should still be 1463, and the comparison return False? I think I'm having a brain fart on this stuff...Secondly, if one were to change this function to make the comparison I'm looking for more accurate or less error prone, would you recommend changing it to something much simpler? For example:

Return (Math.Abs(double1 - double2) < 0.0001)

Would I be to try something like:

Return (double1.ToString("N5").Equals(double2.ToString("N5")))
