Is it possible to open a file with the default program installed on Windows ? Lets say we have the exact location of the file on the hard disk and it is a *.pdf file , how can we give the order for that file to get opened by the default program ? In case it matters , I want to open *.pdf and *.doc files . It doesn't matter which program exactly will load the file , the default is fine by me .

The problem is that the Instance.Kill does not allow the application to end gracefully. In VB6 you could use the SendMessage API to send a close message to the application and it would end gracefully - i.e. give the user the normal closing prompt. This just slays the application - leaving any open files in their potentially incomplete state, etc.

I have made a program with 2 files, say (file1 and file2). Here I need to make an object of file2 in file1 where I need help from file2. And file2 needs the display text from file1 again to execute the enquiry. So I made an object of file1 in file2 to get the content in display text. But I get stack overflow exception when compiling. I do somehow understand why I get this information. But how do I solve this problem. I thought if I made this display variable to be public, I might reach it from file2. But I couldn't get the content.

But if I select multiple files and then right click and open with my program then it opens multiple instances of my program, instead of just passing the multiple files as arguments to a single instance. I don't use a dgv, but rather I connect directly to access and when a text field has text in it, it takes that text and searches, and updates various text boxes with the according information (finds a row, and takes all the data in the columns and adds it into their respective box). There are approximately 5-7 text boxes being used at the same time, and only a few will be changed.
How would I go about updating and saving through the VB program?

I was wondering if anyone knows of any way of statically linking all dependant DLL's to the vb.net program? I know there are ways to find the dependencies using dependency walker and other tools like that. But was curious since c++ supports the static ability to load DLL's. If not, what tools can i use to quickly package the required DLL's without having to install .net on all my systems?
