My brother had his son make a simple maze program with Visual Basic. Now all exe files on his system open to the maze, even system restore opens the maze. They have windows xp and he usually can figure things out but this one has him stumped.

Is it possible to open a file with the default program installed on Windows ? Lets say we have the exact location of the file on the hard disk and it is a *.pdf file , how can we give the order for that file to get opened by the default program ? In case it matters , I want to open *.pdf and *.doc files . It doesn't matter which program exactly will load the file , the default is fine by me .
I have a program that needs to access the files that are open by another program on the computer. When my application comes up I can easily see if the other application is running with the .net Process.GetProcessesByName method
Dim MyProcesses() as Process = GetProcessesByName("AnApplication") For Each Instance as Process in MyProcesses If MsgBox("application is running - do you want to end it?", MsgBoxStyle.YesNo or MsgBoxStyle.Question, "Warning") = MsgBoxResult.Yes then
[code].....
The problem is that the Instance.Kill does not allow the application to end gracefully. In VB6 you could use the SendMessage API to send a close message to the application and it would end gracefully - i.e. give the user the normal closing prompt. This just slays the application - leaving any open files in their potentially incomplete state, etc.
I have a program that works when, a file is opened with it using the right click menu in explorer. But if I select multiple files and then right click and open with my program then it opens multiple instances of my program, instead of just passing the multiple files as arguments to a single instance. The program is written in vb.net but is not a windows form, it is just a module, so I can to tick the Single instance option in the properties in Visual Studio. So how do I open multiple files from explorer context menu in a single instance.
i want to write a program and set it as default to open .txt files so when i double click on a text file that it opens in that program and displays the text into a RichTextBox
my question is how do i display the text in the RichTextBox after opening the program through a double click on a text file?
I have VB 2008 Express installed in my PC. I downloaded a program source code written in VB6 but could not open the files. What do I need to do to get this codes displayed.
I have a question that I hope to find a much more simpler solution to.I have two forms in my program which are named Main and Second. The Second form has several textboxs, buttons (some disabled) and comboboxes. When the Second form is opened via the Main form on the very first instance, everything works fine.
However, if I re-open the Second form after previously closing it, the disabled buttons are no longer disabled and the text controls and comboboxes show the previous values entered from the first instance which I do not want. How can I ensure that the Second form will be opened "clean" every time.
Currently I have to add instances to the onload event to do this to ensure that the form is cleared on the second instance.textbox1.text = ""textbox2.text = ""textbox3.text = ""button1.enabled = False
I need to watch onr folder using filesystemwatcher when a file is come in i have to send the file to websservice and recive processed file i done this. my question is if at the time 20 or 30 files come in how to do this 1 by 1 the webservice takes time to process its depends on the file size. so how to process 1 by 1 files correctly without crashing.
I have an issue with creating a VB program. I reference files on my computer that are displayed in a webbrowser in the program. The issue comes when I install the program on another computer because of the file path. The program is looking for the files on the computer I created the program on because of the file path, instead of looking for the files within the program resource files.
For example, I created the program on Computer A and referenced File "C:ComputerAMy DocumentsHelp.txt"
Once installed on Computer B, the program doesnt display the image because it's looking for "Computer A" in the file path. How do I correct my programming so that the files are universial and can be found on any computer the program is installed on?
This is driving me round the bend. I'm a long time VB.NET forms developer, quite new to ASP.NET and completely new to MVC. I'm creating vbhtml pages that use the VB.NET razor syntax, and I seem to be constantly fighting against the UI which is trying to indent my code incorrectly. Take the following example, based on the template page for a new Razor view:
I have a dot net activeX control. using the code below my VB 6 application is able to load the control but the "ObjectEvent" method is never called event when raise event is called within the dot net control[code]...
I recently made some obvious changes to one of my programs (added a few buttons, etc), and when I start debugging, it goes back and uses an earlier version before I made the changes.
I am transmitting data over an IP socket and receiving the data via a second program I have written. The server was in VB6 and am now creating a new one in vb.net to run as a service. The major issue I am having is related to the encoding features.
Issue 1 to be able to correctly encode a bytearray so that when it is received by a VB6 program via winsock that the data will be in the proper ANSI format for the pc to read it correctly. So far this works on some files and not on others depending on the content of the file.
Issue 2 to be able to correctly encode a bytearray, send it to a vb.net host program and correctly [decode?] write it to disk.
To make things a little more complicated I must also be able to do this where the client resides on a Windows Mobile, Windows CE, or Windows PC. I have been running some tests and have gotten mixed results.
Below is my code, I dont know why it is not working. I was trying something very simple because i am not familiar with coding in script editor, i have always done it in VB express. Every time i click the command button nothing is happending. What am i doing wrong? Sub CommandButton1_Click()
I'm trying to create a program which will calculate the Fibonacci Sequence which calculates the numbers correctly however, there are a few problems.
1. When using a Do While...Loop the program becomes non responsive.
2. Kind of dealing with the program becoming non responsive; I am unable to stop the process by forcing the sub to Exit.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Operation.Text = "Calculating...." EStop = False
I have an application that can read certain types of files, and I have it working so that if you do "open with" from windows, it automatically starts the application and opens the selected file.
Unfortnately, I cannot get it to work for more than one file.
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs() contrains the following: System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(0) = name and path to the .exe System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(1) = name and path to the first file selected to be opened
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs().Length is 2 when the user tries to open 1 file, which makes sense since the first argument is the .exe itself and the 2nd is the path to the file, but it does not increase to 3 if the user tries to open 2 files... meaning that System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(2) is never populated Here is some sample code that shows the problem: It will recognize no files or 1 file being opened, but if you try to open multiple it will only show the first.
I have VB project and I tried to use PUBLISH feature. It seems to create nicely some kind of setup program, but the setup program does not ask where to copy files (it does not seem to copy filesto target machine "PROGRAM FILES".)Is this setup program somehow different from usual installers?
NOTE: I want that app files are installed to Hard disk( from USB stick source)Is the signing recommended or necessary? My App is pretty simple, its just using access DB + printer api, should I still sign?
I am trying to retrieve file details from files in the Program Files folder. I receive an error while trying to retrieve file details.
Dim sFileName As String = ("%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe") Dim Info As FileVersionInfo Info = FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(sFileName) Msgbox(Info.ProductName.ToString())
I receive file not found error at 3rd line. But if I change the path from "%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe" to "c:Program FilesWindows DefenderMSASCui.exe" it works fine.
What should I do if I want to retrieve file details from the path which includes a "%" character?
Having a slight permission problem with Win 7 I am guessing it will be the same on Vista but work fine on XP (yet to try)But my program is sitting in: C:Program FilesCompanyProgram And its trying to create new files alongside itself in the Program Files area but bombing out which I know is permissions. If I go there to create the file myself it comes up with a UAC prompt and when I hit allow it works fine but obv the program can't do that byiteslf so bombs out.Is there anyway I can over come that without the user having to grant admin rights to the program each time it starts or do I have to write data to another place?
I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.
I am currently working on a menu driven console program that so far has 4 menu options of checking internet connection, decrypting/encrypting a message, calculator, and a logout, and i am wondering about a few current things.
1. How do i make it to where, when a program starts for the first time, it asks for a user to enter in his data, like signing up for a site for the first time?
2. How do i make it to where the program will save the data entered, and does not delete when the user closed the program.
3. How can i make it to where when a user signs in, his/her data is read correctly? Like an array search for a multidimensional array. For my "New user" sign data i created a function...
Function createNewUser() As String() Dim name As String Dim userName As String[code]...
Private Sub SaveAsToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SaveAsToolStripMenuItem.Click timedate.Stop()[code]......
The problem is that if I save a file I get "myfile.GDL" if I overwrite that I get a new file "myfile.GDL.GDL" ect.the other problem being that the filtering in the windows save/open dialog wont show .GDL files unless I select "all files".
