Allowing Simultaneous Access To Database For Two Different Applications?

Jul 31, 2009

I am developing desktop search engine. For that i am maintaining indexed database with file name and their path. The indexed database is created at once by scanning all hard disk. This indexed database is further updated when user creates, deletes or renames file. The updation task is carried out by an windows service application and for searching files on hard disk I have created another windows aplication. The problem is that when windows service is updating database, windows application can not read database. It gives error 'Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'WINXPSwapni'.

Maximum Amount Of Space That Can Use For MS Access Database Applications Inside VB Program?

I have a program that is running with a Data Connection to Database MS Access Office 2007. I maxed the Database at 1.97 GBytes of memory. VS 2005 Access Application Object Not Allowing OutputTo

Jun 9, 2009

For some reason I am not able to use DoCmd.OutputTo with my access object in VB.net 2005. I get the following error: 'OutputTo' is ambiguous because multiple kinds of members with this name exist in interface 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Access.DoCmd

I am referencing the Microsoft Access 12.0 Object Library and using Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop

Dim objAccess As New Access.Application
objAccess.OpenCurrentDatabase("C:Database.mdb", False)
objAccess.DoCmd.OutputTo(

A similiar command Docmd.SendObject seems to work just fine, so I don't know why I am getting that error or how to fix it.

Form - Allowing User To Register New Tools With Database?

Oct 9, 2009

I'm trying to make a form that allows users to register new tools with the database. I know how to update the sql server with that information, but there's quite a bit of code that accompanies specific tools (which alter labels on textboxes, etc.) Is it possible to programmatically update the software according to information put into a 'add new tool' form without touching the source code?

.net - Simultaneous Threads Only One Seems To Function At A Time?

Threads a + b, (both are trying to delete files).a gets called first, then b while a is still running.b deletes the file successfully but a doesn't.If I run a on its own, a's file deletes fine.

When I step through the code I can see that a's MultiAttemptFilename gets overwritten with b's.

I don't understand.I have an ajax call pointing to a generic handler which passes the filename along with it.In my handler I have the following code:

Achieve Simultaneous File Download?

May 23, 2011

I have a class that uses a BackGroundWorker to download a single file using HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse

Downloading single file works.

But if I make two objects of that class and start downloading 2 different files simultaneously, there is nothing produced. Execution exits after getResponse() without any error or exception.

Is there any way to achieve simultaneous file download?

Switch From ADO To ADO.NET - Regards To Data Access When It Comes To Windows Forms Applications

Jul 21, 2009

I have some friends who are 'old-school' VB6 database developers and I was telling them about .NET and its features, specifically ADO.NET. In our conversation, they brought up the following reasons why they would rather stick with ADO than move to ADO.NET: The Dataset is disconnected (What if power fails?)

The same amount of code still has to be written The new options of Dataset, BindingSource and TableAdapter seem confusing the same code is written programatically access the Database, all that changes is how that command is laid out. Why ADO.NET is 'better' than ADO with regards to data access when it comes to Windows Forms applications. What does ADO.NET provide that ADO does not? What does it do better than ADO? I'd like examples that do not involve LINQ.

Set The Max Amount Of Simultaneous Connections From The Smtpclient To The Mailserver?

Apr 7, 2009

I've this small application I've built which loops thru our database and generates 30000 mails and sends them using System.Net.SmtpClient, but it's not working very well. At times it won't send for a couple of minutes, all in all it takes about 48 hours for all the mails to be sent. Our mail provider says it's because the mail server can only handle 10 connections simultaneuosly and that would be the reason why it halts. I've looked over the SmtpClient class but can't find any property to set max amount of connections. Does this problem sound familiar? Could that be the reason? If so, is it possible to set the max amount of simultaneous connections from the smtpclient to the mailserver?

Pattern For Limiting Number Of Simultaneous Asynchronous Calls?

Apr 9, 2010

I need to retrieve multiple objects from an external system. The external system supports multiple simultaneous requests (i.e. threads), but it is possible to flood the external system - therefore I want to be able to retrieve multiple objects asynchronously, but I want to be able to throttle the number of simultaneous async requests. i.e. I need to retrieve 100 items, but don't want to be retrieving more than 25 of them at once. When each request of the 25 completes, I want to trigger another retrieval, and once they are all complete I want to return all of the results in the order they were requested (i.e. there is no point returning the results until the entire call is returned). Are there any recommended patterns for this sort of thing?

Inside the process.start block there is no error so I guess it could be some limitation somewhere.

Deploying Windows Applications With A Database

Feb 6, 2010

I'm a first time visitor and poster, but I'm definitly going to stick around. I'm running an old version of Visual Studio .Net Academic 2002 and the .Net framework 2.0. I'm stuck on an issue regarding the deployment of a few programs I've thrown together. They all work fine on my development machine, but the problem they all use SQL Server databases, and I can't find any specific help on deploying a windows application with a database on a machine that isn't set up basically just like my development machine.

I know that I need the .net runtime bootstrapper on the target machine, so I can run basic programs that dont use SQL databases. That's no problem. But what about programs that make heavy use of databases? How does one go about deploying it on target machines? Is there a SQL server bootstrapper?

Sql Server - SSRS Code Shared Variables And Simultaneous Report Execution?

Dec 28, 2009

I've found out that if two instances of an SSRS report run at the same time, any Code variables declared at the class level (not inside a function) can collide. I suspect this may be the cause of our report failures and I'm working up a potential fix.The reason we're using the Code portion of SSRS at all is for things like custom group and page header calculation. The code is called from expressions in TextBoxes and returns what the current label should be. The code needs to maintain state to remember what the last header value was in order return it when unknown or to store the new header value for reuse

Database - How Data Sources Are Linked In Compiled .NET Applications

Jun 18, 2009

When I try adding a new data source to my project I get a prompt saying "The connection you selected uses a local data file that is not part of the current project. Would you like to copy the file to your project and modify the connection?"This sounds rather obscure to me, as I'm new to VB.NET and programming non-script apps in general. The data source in this case is a .sdf SQL CE file.

Question 1: If I say that I want to copy the database to the project, what will happen after I compile the app, where the database will be? (how will I edit it from another app?)

Question 2: If I do not include it, how the data source will still keep linked? Can I link using filesystem enviroiment variables like %ProgramFiles%MyAppDir?

Question 3: Can I just tell it to use a read-only (Just needs to read it) data source on the web, like on an FTP?
