I've got a 2 part question: First question: I know that there is a query limit of 5,000 records when querying records, for performance reasons, but is there a limit when doing an aggregate query? If so, what is it? I need only to query the number of records and for one entity I can get a result of 39,000+ records, but for another entity I see an error message like:

Asp.net - IIS Application Pool Crashes When Using Context.Server.Execute?

Apr 13, 2012

I am having an issue with an ASP.Net page I am writing and struggling to diagnose why this page is failing.

I am trying to do this:

Dim st As New StringWriter()
Dim strURL As String = "CourseProgramme.aspx?id=3733"
Context.Server.Execute(strURL, st)
txtNotes.Text = st.ToString()

The aim here is to get the HTML back for the page that has been specified in strURL and then display it in a textbox. However when I run this code it crashes the ApplicationPool in IIS and when I look in event viewer I see this error message:

A process serving application pool 'blueprintdev' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '5284'. The data field contains the error number.The strange thing here is that in another page I do this code which works fine:

Dim strDutyStartDate As Date
strDutyStartDate = TextboxDutyStartDate.Text
Dim st As New StringWriter()

[code]....

As far as I can see other than the URL I am passing, which does exist, I cannot see a difference between the two.The page I am developing is in ASP.Net with .Net 4.0 however in the website there are some classic ASP pages. IIS is running at version 7.5.7600.16385 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64Bit.So far I have tried setting the application pool to run in 32bit mode but that causes errors in other areas and the site will not load.

Application.Settings VB 2005 - Save Arrays Using The Settings System Object

Jan 14, 2009

I just wondered if you can or can't save arrays using the settings system object. There seems to be no way of entering it at designtime. It seems implied you cannot create new user settings.subobjects at runtime. I'm looking to find the easiest way to save a populated array of PictureBox's. If the only way is a self/custom made/managed .ini file then I need to know so i can start on that but I was hoping to use some of all this phaff in the new frameworks usefully.

Application.restart After My.settings.save Doesn't Load The New Settings

Feb 8, 2008

i have created a user setting named 'setmeup' as string, scope = user, value = "magical meow meow!".in my code i access it and assign it a new value like this...my.settings.setmeup = "howdy cowboy!"my.settings.save()application.restart()when the application restarts, i expect the my.settings.setmeup = "howdy cowboy!" but when i check its contents its still "magical meow meow!".but when i use application.exit() instead of application.restart() and manually restart the program, my.settings.setmeup = "howdy cowboy!" which is correct.what must i do? i want to use application.restart() because i don't want the users to double-click the icon again to start the program. i want the program to restart automatically.

C# - Limit Wifi Access Using .net Application?

Aug 30, 2009

Currently following is the setup of my wifi connection.

Laptop 1 ------> Wifi Router <------
Laptop 2

There are about 5 laptops which connect to the wifi router to access internet. Network is password protected so anyone with a valid network key can connect and access internet.

I am planning to develop a local website which will be having a list of username and passwords. I will also remove the password of the wifi network so that anyone can connect.

If a connected system tries to access a web page in the internet then redirect them to a Login page (in the local website) and ask them to login. Once successfully logged i,n the mac id should be added to "Allow" list and monitoring starts. Internet should not be available for those who don't have a valid username and password.

I was thinking about developing the application to block/allow internet access though a vb.net/c# application.

I am okay with the website part. What I would like to know is

How I can block/allow internet access through the .net application. Is it possible in .net or should I be going for an unmanaged code development? If it is possible where is the best place to start? I have experience in winforms development but not much of network programming. Will there be any change in my current wifi setup? May be a new webserver/proxy server which will host the website and the windows application?

.net - Store Application And User Settings Of An Application Running With Multiple Instances?

Which is the best way to store application and user settings of an application running with multiple instances?My problem is that using the vb's "Application Settings" one instance would overwrite the other one.I want to identify each instance with a number passed via command line argument. I could use this number to identify the appropriate settings of the running instance, but I see in a local INI o XML file a better way to handle that.

HttpRequest Maximum Length Exceeded In ASP.net

May 18, 2010

I'm trying to fix an issue with an application I'm supporting (I didn't write the code). The code takes an SSRS report and renders it in pdf format. Users are sporadically getting the error indicated in the title. There is no rhyme or reason to when the error is generated (a particular report will run one time and throw the error the next).[code]

I read that the default length limit is 4MB. None of the reports by themselves are even over 350K. I'm wondering if this could be caused by a caching issue. I'm not an expert, so I need some guidance as to how best to solve the problem. I also want to understand why the issue is happening. Please note that only 2 reports are shown in the snippet - there are about 30+ reports in the full sub. I tried the proposed solution, but it didn't help (I also tried the Fiddler route, but did not see anything glaring). I thought it might be best to clarify. The reports will run fine for a while, but the execution time gradually gets slower and slower until the application eventually displays the error.

.net - Application Settings Scope - User Vs Application?

Apr 13, 2012

If I create a user level application setting and bind it to a text box on a form, then type something in the textbox, the value is automatically saved and when the application is launched again the value appears in the textbox. This doesn't happen when I scope the setting as application.

Why are application scoped settings not saved automatically like user scoped settings are?

If this is by design, how can I manually save these settings and load them at runtime?

I want to use thread pool to create multiple threads to do a specific task. Application Settings (Specifying The Folder)?

Jul 22, 2011

Im using vb 2010 Express. I use 'Application settings' to store "demo version exp. date" of my program. My program stores the settings in "C:UserslenovoAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsApplication1.exe_Url_fbujq51flndh1ui4t4442ohpvlebhwej" folder.But when user copies the exe program and pastes it to another folder, the settings folder changes. I mean when user copies and pastes the exe program to another folder, the program starts to store the the settings in

"C:UserslenovoAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsApplication1.exe_Url_zywjz0o2tyrcmd35h5j1fdq0lplbklwc"

(Different than the first address). This causes the exp date to change everytime user copy-pasts the program.. Is there any way to specify where to store the settings? I mean when the program starts i want to store the settings always in "C:UserslenovoAppDataLocalMicrosoftxxxx" folder.

C# - Commit Application Settings Changes?

Nov 16, 2010

I'm binding user settings to a bunch of controls on a WinForm dialog that has OK/Cancel buttons. While this works great to read in the bindings in, I would only like to commit binding changes if a user clicks OK, and not if they click cancel. Is there a simplistic setting to achieve this rather than managing all reading and committing myself?

Right now, let's say I have a textbox that binds to a user setting called "country". It has "United States" in it and if a user changes it to "Bolivia", that will get committed as soon as it is typed instead of when the OK button is pressed.

Change Application Settings?

May 23, 2010

To start with, I know that applications scope settings are read only, and user scope settings are read/write. My problem is this: I am creating an application which will be used in a setting where an "administrative" user (admin in this case does not denote any computer ability whatsoever- just the one in control of the computer) will be installing my application onto a computer where several users will likely use the application. I have a number of program settings which I would like the administrative user to be able to set, and have those settings be used for all users who run the program.
