I'm sure it is negligible, but given that I want to assign true to a boolean field from within a method, does this choice make any difference? If so, why? field = true; // could already be true, but I don't care
I am using a boolean embedded in a for next loop. I thought the value would ALWAYS default to false inside this loop, but it seems to hold the value of true inside the loop, even when moving to another value of i. What's up with this?
For i as integer = 0 to 5 im b as boolean se boolean value later...
I have a problem during defining a Sub routine in VB.Net. I am defining a sub routine which is as under Private Sub ActivateControls(rdbutton as RadioButton, Optional txt as Textbox, Optional txt2 as Textbox) End sub When I call this sub routine It gives me the Error that Each Optional Parameter must specify a default value. So, Here I can't understand that what can be the default value of a textbox. What default value I can use here to remove this error.
i have read on the msdn and know properties statement used for declaring the name of a property, and the property procedures used to store and retrieve the value of the property.i learned about structure of it. but i cant figure out it clearly. [code]
I'm trying to check whether a Username and Password exist in my MySQL database and if so I need to return true, otherwise false. This is what I have atm:
myconn.Open() Dim selectSQL As String = "SELECT * FROM member
[code]...But, when someone else runs it their user name won't be the same as mine, so only people with the account name ADAM would be able to run successfully Is there a code so instead of me putting adam there is a code that will choose the user that the program is being run by?
I need to assign a varible in a while clause. I.e., i would do it in php like this: while (!is_bool($char=$this->getChar()) in every loop, the function would assign $char a value, the is_bool function would test it, and the code INSIDE the while clause would have access to that $char.
How can I assign a value to a message box for when the default value displayed in the text box is unchanged. ie. If my default value is 17 and the user clicks ok without retyping a number, the Input value displayed in a textbox will be 0.
Currently I have:
Public Class Form1 Dim MyValue As Double Private Sub But_EnterInput_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles But_EnterInput.Click MyValue = CDbl(InputBox("Input a value", "Data Input", "17", 200, 400))
[code]....
This works however if the user types 17, the textbox will read 0. not what i want.
I just got upgraded from VB6.0 to VB2010. I'm trying to move some of my program functions over and I'm getting an error on the ones where I use optional... Public Function GetFolder(ByRef FTT As String, Optional InitFile As String)
I get the error at the end of the line, after the close par...the error is "optional parameters must specify a default value".
I need to create a Select Case statement to assign the per check processing fee:user inputs number of cks into textbox that i need to validate the input if user puts in a negative amount.
10 cents for <=20 cks written ea month 8 cents <= 20 to 39 cks written ea mo 6 cents <= 40 to 59 cks written ea mo 4 cents for 60 or more cks written ea mo.
Also, I have a label programmed to display the $10 monthly fee thats has to be included into the: Total monthly fees. Here's the coding I have so far:
Const decSERVICE_FEE As Decimal = 10D Const decTWENTY_OR_LESS_CHECKS As Decimal = 0.1D Const decTWENTY_THRU_THIRTYNINE_CHECKS As Decimal = 0.08D
From what I read it is a good convention to name a method that returns a boolean value with the prefix of "is" or "has". So in keeping with this convention I am trying to name a method in my program with this prefix but I am running Specifically I have a class called Day. It is a simple class with a few data members and one method that returns a boolean value of true or false. The name of the boolean variable is isSpecialDay. This class has a method called isSpecialDay which takes the date of the day, applies some criteria to the date and then sets the variable isSpecialDay to true or false. My problem is that the boolean variable is named isSpecialDay and so it the method. What should I do?
Public Class Day Private TheDate as String Private DayName as String
After Filling a DataTable in GridView's DataSource . A column with check box Type appears but it created as read only column and I can't enable it or make it editable... even i tried .readonly = false and still can't be edited
I ran some code through an automatic translator for C# to VB, and it translated some code like this:Public Property Title As [String]How is this different to Public Property Title As String
Admin assigns the authority and get a new form to the new assign in with vb.net & access. I am not sure about this,I need a way to do the new form assigned? How?Actually, this project is the admin will assign the authority to a manager, and the manager will get the password to log in. Then, the manager once log in and will get a form to set the rooms who is going to use and date, etc, this is multi-manager to handle the room setting jobs. But, I think, I got stuck, I am not sure how to do the new form, HOW DO YOU ASSIGN THIS NEW FORM FOR EACH NEW MANAGER?????? THIS IS VB.NET WITH ACCESS.
I need to print the contents of 3 textboxs to default printer. what examples I have found dont seem to work. I was trying the documentprint1 component as i thought it would be easy but cant figure out how to tell it what to print the second part is to print a variable (string) to the printer as well.no need for user to select just straight to default printer with its default settings
I have a combobox which contains a sample of names selected from a table.Currently the default name displayed in the box is the 1st name found in the table. What I would like to do is display the name of the person who is doing the selection as the default. The name is stored in a public variable 'PubName' and I do not want the user to be able to type into the combobox themselves. Is this possible?
I am creating my own browser. I want to make an option...to set as the browser to default. To do that I have to:Write a code which opens html(generally internet) file through my browser(form load event) DoneChange the "open with..." of the .html,.xml.... files Problem I want to change the open with event from my web browser. Actually i want an options form which will ask the user "Do you want to set /Browser name/ to be your default browser?" If yes then it will change the default options of the internet files.
I was convinced that If <expression> Then <statement [:statement]> Else [statements] in concrete form of If a = b Then SayHello() Else SayBye() End has sense. I read article on msdn on If-then-else, but I forgot why I was reading, so I concluded, that snippet above means this
If a = b Then HelloIsSaid : IsNotEnded Else ByeIsSaid : IsEnded But I have tested it now, and I see, that Else without statement is nothing more than decoration. It would be pretty good if it had function I described. Do you think its good request? Or do you know any circumstance where this Else has some function?
I want to put it (the select count statement) in this LINQ statement so I can get the sales count in my linq statement: Dim TheLeads = (From L In DB.Leads Where L.IsDeleted = False Select L).ToList() Is this possible to do in LINQ?
Is it possible to set a project default for VB.NET winforms projects so that the default Modifier for controls added to winforms is Private (not Friend)?I know there's a "modifiers" property in the properties window so I can set it for each individual control however I would like to change the project so from now on myself and other developers have to specifically decide to change from friend to private. (Which I would strongly discourage them from doing).I believe there is no way of doing this, but on another forum a while ago someone mentioned it would be possible with an add-in (but didn't name the add-in or where to get it).
add an if statement and an exit statement to my do loop that exits when my future value (FV) is greater than 1000, then to change the exit statement to a continue statement so my loop will continue even though my fv is greater then 1000, point is to get this to run even though my if statement doesnt do anything. problem something wrong in my code and an exception error (xception of type 'System.OverflowException' occurred in mscorlib.dll)
so can someone show me where or why I have an error is, what am I overthinking now! I could use a hint, OMG i could use a tutor for that matter
We have a great book written for Visual Basic 2005 that we type code that is prepared in advance. We are using Visual Basic Express 2008 and normally this works really great; type the code run the program and it works, however I am running into a snag.
The textbook shows the following code: IN THE(General) (Declarations)AREA we are told to type the following:
' Create a Graphic object to use with the game's bitmap Dim myGraphicObject As Graphics = Me.CreateGraphics ' Create an empty Bitmap Object
[Code].....
is there a difference between VB 2005 and VB 2008 that would be causing the errors? or am I missing something subtle maybe mistyped?
