I have recently started using Request("key") instead of Request.QueryString("key") to access my querystring values. However I have read that:

Therefore, if I have a querystring key and cookie key which are the same, which value is returned?
I have a form with its method being "get" that passes the variables and their values to the query string, respectively. However, it also passes the viewstate variable in the query string. Now, I have a very long viewstate value on the given page, and if passed in the query string, the viewstate variable will cause the page to error out, due to "too long of a query string" which happens to also be too long of a url.
I cannot merely remove the viewstate variable - I need it. But I need to pass the viewstate variable along via some method other than get when the form is submitted, while the other inputs of the form (the non-hidden inputs) are appended to the query string.

When I include () in the AddressOf, VS complains: 'AddressOf' operand must be the name of a method (without parentheses).

View 1 RepliesI have a webpage (OrdersAdmin.aspx) which has various buttons that call the relevant stored procedures and display the results on a grid on the same page. In the grid is a button for each row that when clicked would add a parameter to the querystring, and loads the page. So clicking say first item in the grid would load the OrderAdmin.aspx?OrderID=1. In the page load event it checks to see if there is a OrderID parameter present in the querystring, and if so additional user control is loaded and displayed. The problem is that when I click one of the various buttons again to call the stored procedure this second control that is visible based on presence of OrderID should no longer be displayed.

Options that I know of: Do not include parameters in the ASPX file. Add them directly through the codebehind -- and assign Param.DefaultValue upon adding. Set Param.DefaultValue in the page load (Codeblock 2)
Both of these use DefaultValue, a property that clearly was not intended to be used in this manner. Do the ASP.NET overlords have a recommended method in mind for achieving this common task?

I'm using this for logging. I use one method multiple times and it would be nice to log the name of the variable that I passed to it. Since I'm passing it byref, I should be able to get this name, right?This would give you the parameter name in the method and it's type, but not the name of the variable that was passed byref.

I am in vb.net and have a function that will be accessed by multiple threads. Everything inside the function uses local variables. However, each thread will pass in its own dataset by reference. From what I have read the local variables should be no problem, but I think the dataset coming in is a concern. How should I control access / execution of this function to make sure that it is thread safe?

I have made a Windows Service program called InvCheckService.exe. I am passing the working folder using the Services Property for this program. I am putting the parameter "D:Inv" into the "Start Parameters:" textbox.In my program I am getting 1 parameter. Its is D:MyServicesInvCheckService.exe which is where I ran the InstallUtil.exe from.

I want to pass a List of T where T is an object I've created that has about ten properties (strings, dates and integers).The lst passes to the function successfully. I am also passing an New T of the Object (itm as T).I can see all the values (see image below), but because it's generic I cannot seem to retrieve the property values and I cannot figure out how to iterate through the properties of each itm as they are retrieved in the For Each.[code]
View 10 RepliesI get this error from my application, but not in the development environment (VS 2008). I created an installer package and have installed it on two different XP machines with no problem. However, on a Vista system when the application runs code to generate an image I get a "Parameter is not valid" exception. I have no clue what could be causing this given the circumstances. To generate the image I am creating a bitmap with a valid size and simply creating the graphic. Since I can't repoduce the error in VS I don't have a way to troubleshoot this.
View 7 RepliesI have a Search Form that can search by a few different fields. The problem field is birthDate. On the form it is a string. In the SQL 2005 db it is a DateTime that can be null.
The code below is sequential as far as declaring the variable on the form and then setting it. Then the call to the BLL and then the call to the DAL.

I am using VB.Net code to print barcode label in Zebra TLP 2844 printer. And the printer is connected to system by USB port.
