Setting Value Of SqlDataSource Parameter From A QueryString Value @ Page Load?

Let's say we have a value coming in through the URL of a page. Example: www.test.com/page.aspx?&Key=Val. Val is retrievable through Request.Querystring("Key").Is there an accepted best practice for assigning a QueryString Value to a parameter of a SqlDataSource defined on an ASPX page?
Options that I know of: Do not include parameters in the ASPX file. Add them directly through the codebehind -- and assign Param.DefaultValue upon adding. Set Param.DefaultValue in the page load (Codeblock 2)
Both of these use DefaultValue, a property that clearly was not intended to be used in this manner. Do the ASP.NET overlords have a recommended method in mind for achieving this common task?

I am retrieving the scope_identity of a db entry, and I want to use that variable in a different SqlDataSource, primarily as an but I am unable to access the variable.I have the variable being displayed in a msgbox, and it is displaying properly, I am just unsure how to access it in the SqlDataSource. I am trying to get a parameter for my update from the gridview but it is an ID column that I do not want displayed. If I display the data in a boundfield it works fine but if I set the visibility to false the parameter is no longer sent to the update stored procedure. There does not appear to be a hiddenfield column that I can put into the gridview.I have tried to set the parameters through the code behind but I am not certain on how to access the data I want the following code does not work (It sets the parameter to nothing

ultimately, I'm just trying to get the last auto increment value but there are other sections of my code in other applications that I plan on switching to MYSQL that depend on output parameters. I have a webpage (OrdersAdmin.aspx) which has various buttons that call the relevant stored procedures and display the results on a grid on the same page. In the grid is a button for each row that when clicked would add a parameter to the querystring, and loads the page. So clicking say first item in the grid would load the OrderAdmin.aspx?OrderID=1. In the page load event it checks to see if there is a OrderID parameter present in the querystring, and if so additional user control is loaded and displayed. The problem is that when I click one of the various buttons again to call the stored procedure this second control that is visible based on presence of OrderID should no longer be displayed.

I am using the asp.net DataPager and noticed that search engines wouldn't be able to crawl the links created, so I added a querystring parameter and now see that it could crawl the links.The problem I now have is that it will now eventially end up with multiple urls for the same page.Is it possible to stop search engines indexing all pages with the query string parameter such as:?pg=so the search engine will follow these links but not index:

I have a basic page which has fields that I read from the database and write to it. I would like to know where I should call the insert and read commands. I know about age_load but heard about page_loadcomplete.I noted that when the user refreshes the page, for some reason the sqldatasource loads the old data(before the write) even though new data has been loaded on the form.

Does anyone know why a Page_Load would be called twice on a page when requesting an aspx page?I am using .Net 2.0 with the new .net 1.1 compilation model installed. Whenever I request a page, the Page_Load on the aspx page appears to be called twice, so does the Page_Load on and user controls added to that page.

I have an asp.net website that is using update panels on the page that i cant get to reload from the server. I have this for the disable page cache on the master page.

When I click the browser back button to go back to the page it says the page has expired. the other pages on my web site work and call the page load, the only solution i found but cant use is to wrp the whole page in an update panel, but i cant do this becuase i have a report viewer on the page that does not work with ajax.

I have a page to which i send some variables with the GET method. In my VB back-end i get those variables using Page.Request.QueryString("<name>")If i then use the IsNumeric method to make shure it is an numeric string i get True back as value.
When i then try to transform the string to an Integer using val, cìnt, Integer.Parse or cType I get an error saying that my string could not be converted to a integer.So i made an error page which gives me all the info i need to deal with the problem (view below) Exception Message: Conversion from string "" to type 'Integer' is not valid.

IsNumeric confirms that it is a numeric string and that it should be convertable to an Integer. So why won't it work. I don't think that my code should provide any extra information because it only gets the querystrings, uses IsNumeric and then tries to convert them.

I am using <%@ MasterType virtualpath="~/__.Master" %> to embed my master page content into child page to access control belong to Master Page. I have one DropDownList in Master page. And I want to access its SelectedValue in my Child Page.
Problem is when page first time loads and as I am trying to access DropDownList's Selected Value by writing in child Page - "Master.DropDownList.SelectedValue". I am not able to get DropDownList's Value. Its display's Blank.
But When Page.IsPostBack I am able to get SelectedValue of that DropDownList.

So I have this weird issue where I set a SqlParameter.DbType field = to a SqlDbType.Decimal, but instead it sets it to a SqlDbType.DateTime. I'm going to include 2 screen shots from the debugger one line after the set statement. As you can see when I hover over (just after the execution of that line), it set the param.DbType to the wrong value. I can only assume that the param.DbType has code that incorrectly changing the type. How can param.DbType become a SqlDbType.DateTime when the varable I'm setting it to is a SqlDbType.Decimal? I'm targeting the .Net Framework 3.5.

I currently have a page that is populated using a filter, which passes the parameters of the filter via URL.
I'd like to catch those parameters and give the user the opportunity to return to the page with the same filter applied to their view. Essentially, it's a back button. AKA: pass the parameters back into the URL so it repopulates the page.
