Cannot Assign Selectedindex To A Databound Listbox If It Has No Parent?

It appears that I cannot assign the selectedindex for a databound listbox if it has no parent, but I can do so if I have populated the list "manually" from the same datatable. In my code example, the "if" line toggles between loading a list via data binding and loading a list "manually" (both use the same data table). In each case I attempt to set the selected index afterwards. With manual loading, the selected index is set; with data binding, an error is thrown (which can be avoided by assigning the listbox a parent, but the "manual" equivalent doesn't need this). Is this a bug?

I am experiencing aproblem in my VB.NET App. The salary form is a databound form in my app to a linq data source. There are several text boxes to enter and calculate different salary fields. e.g. Basic Salary, Budgetary Allowance and Adjusted Basic Salary...
all the above three controls are bound to the datasource. now on the Leave events of the Basic Salary and Budgetary Allowance there is a function to calculate Adjusted basic salary.
The problem is i dont see the calculated amount in the adjusted basic salary but i see only the underlying data in the database instead of the programmatically calculated amount.

I click on items in my listbox and then hit a submit button, but when istep through my button_clicked code it doesn't detect any selectedindex. All controls are in the same form and there are no panels. Why can't I detect what items were clicked on in the listbox?

I have a listbox and two buttons. Each of my button is labeled UP and DOWN. When I press UP, the current item in my listbox will be moved one level (or index) up and when I press DOWN button the current item goes one level down. I have been trying to manipulate the selectedindex property but it isn't working.

I've pretty much just started in playing with Visual Basic Studio 2010 and have been using this site for lots of answers so thought I'd join up and harass more directlyI've been trying to move items between two lists, one is databound to a bindingsource, the other isn't. I found out that you can't really move items from databound lists, but you can remove from the datasource instead. This works fine until I want to move the item back - it fills a blank line with seemingly no data.

I have a form with a dropdownbox two listboxes and two buttons on it. I removed a "select" button as I just used the DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged, but the event would not fire until I used the suggestion from:Why DropDownList.SelectedIndexChanged event does not fire?
It involved changing the AutoPostBack='true' and EnableViewState="true" properties
So now the DropDownList works but with the two listboxes, the SelectedIndex stays as -1 and does not change even when selected.

I think it has something to do with post backs, page_load or the selectedindex changed event of the listbox, it worked perfectly before I made the modifications.

I need to make events based on which index is selected in the listbox. I was wondering if there was an inbuilt function of if I need to use If conditions.

That code will run when the selected index is changed regardless of which index. But I need each index/row to run a different event. I know I can use If conditions to get what I want, but I expect it'd be a lot more efficient with an inbuilt method.

I have a listbox of the 50 states. I have one textbox and as I enter the first few letters of the name I'm supposed to use the SelectedIndex property of the listbox to display the appropriate name. I am not very good at programming at all. Is this a quick and easy thing to do and if so how is it done?

I have a Listbox which is to display a list of product names which it reads from a database table, bound using the inbuild datasource/databinding stuff..however when the product names are updated/more are added in the table etc no change is reflected in the Listbox! only the initial names from when it was first bound appear, how to fix this?

I have an application in VB.Net that displays the results of a math operation to a listbox. For example I have the 12345 + 12345 = 24690. What I'm trying to do is to have the first 2 numbers (12345 and 12345) copied to 2 different textboxes when listbox item is selected. Here's the code I have so far:

During runtime it only works with index 1 when it gets selected. I have 10 records being displayed (0 to 9). None of other indexes are being shown at the textboxes.

Trying to learn VB 2005. So my questions might tend to use the logic from VBA/VB6.
So, my question is, is it possible to assign indexes on the listbox/combobox? What I have is an ID and a Description from a table and would like to display it on listbox/combobox to allow user to choose from by looking for required description. When selected the ID will be used to search for other information related to this ID.
I manage to display the description but how to assign the IDs?

You wouldn't think so, but it does when the listbox is bound to a datasource (as far as I can see).
I've reduced the behaviour to the code below. The "if" line toggles between loading a list via data binding and loading a list "manually" (both use the same data table). In each case I set the selected index afterwards, and then change the parent form. With manual loading, the selected index is retained, with binding it is lost. I cannot see how this makes any sense - I don't see why changing the host form should alter any property of the list. Is this a bug?

I have three forms:
Login
Mainwindow(Parent MDI)
testwin(ChildMDI)
Flow: User have login from LOGIN form then the mainwidow ll be loaded. from the main window the CHil MDi wil be accessed.
Problem: Parent MDI controls(say listbox) is not updated if i enter details in child MDI. BUt if i directly open the Parent MDi without login form then the PArent MDI controls have been updated fromt he Child MDi..

Admin assigns the authority and get a new form to the new assign in with vb.net & access. I am not sure about this,I need a way to do the new form assigned? How?Actually, this project is the admin will assign the authority to a manager, and the manager will get the password to log in. Then, the manager once log in and will get a form to set the rooms who is going to use and date, etc, this is multi-manager to handle the room setting jobs.But, I think, I got stuck, I am not sure how to do the new form, HOW DO YOU ASSIGN THIS NEW FORM FOR EACH NEW MANAGER?????? This is a challenging one that got me stumped while I was coding today. Suppose I am running the Sub Test1() and Test2() and would like to print out the value of the Shadows method of the instance of the object I am passing in to TestCall() (see below - it is clearer) using the following restrictions:
Can't change the contents of Class A, B, and C
Can't change Sub Test1() and Sub Test2()
TestCall() can't have an if, select case etc. statement that tries to figure out the type

I have a main form, and some sub forms, and each sub form can have some sub forms. When I have multiple sub forms open, and I try to get data from the parent form, it returns the data from the wrong parent form.For example I have two instances of Mainform.subform running. If I do something like this in a child form of one instance of the subform. It returns data from the other subform.
