I'm fiddling around with a small program that can delete a directory, including its sub-folders and files. This is the code I'm using: (Note-I found it on the net, I didn't code it myself)
Private Sub filedelete(ByVal filename As String)
Dim filesystemobject As Object
filesystemobject = CreateObject("Scripting.filesystemobject")[code]..........
So on click of button '2' the folders are cleaned out, and on click of button '3' they are deleted - it works great. Now the problem is, if any of the folders in the directory 'test' are not accessible to the current user, the program throws the exception 'Access to the path is denied. Is it possible to skip folders that are not accessible, and just ignore them, and delete the ones that are accessible? What code needs to be added to enable this ability?
I have an output file that is putting the information in like this:
R
16
D
18
I
20
I need it to where the code is reading every other line. When I run the program it thinks that it is done once it hits a number. Here is my current code:

How would you skip the process so the file is automatically created??
I'm currently use visual basic 2008. The problem is I have try this code but,it produce no output. There is no problem with the code I guess. Here is my code
Dim i As Integer = 0
Dim line As String
'Dim reader As StreamReader = New StreamReader("C:\drill.txt")
[Code]....
I am reading from a textfile. How can I skip a line if it's empty?
Or is it possible to delete at the beginning of ReadAllLines to remove this empy lines.
An empty line would be following:
text1
text2
"empty line"
text3

How to get full path of current directory of process from where process starts Like if i use my software to start somefile then I want my software to know where she started it from ( files path) What I mean is the file I opend using my softwares location.
View 2 RepliesIt appears that when IO.Directory.GetFiles tries to read a folder that it doesn't have access to it throws an exception & stops reading. Is there any way to have skip those folders & continue reading the rest of the folders?
View 1 RepliesI try to compile a project with msbuild.exe I have this error :
vbc : error BC30136: Error creating Win32 resources: Error reading icon '"Recycle Bin Empty.ico"' -- The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
This icon is the Application icon which is in the same directory of the project.vbc is started with /win32icon:"Recycle Bin Empty.ico" parameter.Don't know why MSBuild can't reach the file.
I cannot for the life of me figure out why this is not working[code]...
I've tried all but two things: 1) code that will work and 2) throwing this thing out the window. I feel like I can't find my glasses and the reason is that I'm already wearing them.
I cannot for the life of me figure out why this is not working:

View 7 RepliesI know I've asked this before and for some reason I can never remember how to do it. I need to loop thru a directory structure and for every *.txt file, I need to open it and read it. This is a little application that basically searches for a given string. How do I do this?
View 2 RepliesI have 4 directories, each directory contain 1000 text files. what i want to do is read all text files in the 4 directories then save them to 4 array of sting. i.e each directory of text files in on array of string.

I've got an application that has a bug right now, but we're unable to update the end-user to get the fix out. What a possible workaround would be is to change the working directory to the application's install directory, but from what I can tell, there's no way to do that outside of the program itself.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to create a program that will refresh a *.log file within the program itself (in a RichTextBox), but while the actual application that is writing to that *.log file is open and is utilizing that file as well.
I have tried multiple things with StreamReader, but I can't seem to get anywhere...
Simply, I want to be able to read a *.log file in my Visual Basic 2010 program, but while the actual application that is writing to it is running itself.
How can I do this, as I keep getting the error that another process is utilizing the *.log/text document?
This code should read the string "34,56,23,74,69" from a process's memory addresses (in this case notepad), right now it works but very slow and I think it even breaks somewhere. My problem is with the ReadProcessMemory function. I can't make it read an entire mbi.RegionSize into the buffer. I tried everything and now, it only reads 1 byte at a time until the mbi.RegionSize is finished then it checks if the text that was read contains the text I need to be found, then it goes to the next mbi.RegionSize. Now, even with notepad which is very small it still takes 10 seconds to find something and I intend to use it with a much bigger program, so it will take like forever. Another problem is that it only finds the string "34". If I put "34,5" it won't work.

I wrote a cleanup program to go through some directories and delete files based on if the creation date is older than say 6 months. It works fine with some of the directories I have that contain around a few thousand small files. However, there is one directory (that contains small backup files from another program) that is loaded with over 300,000 files and it locks up on me as soon as I read in the first file in that directory.I am convinced it is the directory has too many files in it to open it. The server that the directory is on is slow. It takes a half hour to open the directory while on the server itself. I know it will take forever to delete the amount of files I want to delete, but I don't understand why it gets stuck and hangs there with no error message. Here is where I get stuck. Listbox1 is the directory I'm attempting to access
For Each selectFile In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(ListBox1.Items.Item(Count), FileIO.SearchOption.SearchTopLevelOnly, "*.*")
compFile = Path.GetFileName(selectFile)

All I am doing is reading each txt file I find in a directory and finding certain strings in the text then counting how many I find in each file and then once each file has its separate counts it send it to a sql database. I have most of it done, but I cant seem to get the count to separate each file so my problem now is that it counts the first file but when it counts the next file it adds to the first file and so on through all the files

I have the code below (found on forums) that should read the string "34,56,23,74,69" starting from the first address of another process till the end. However when I start the project I receive this error :"PInvoke restriction: cannot return variants." With Search Engine for example, the string is found, displayed and changed without any problems. Right now I have a subroutine that searches the string but only if I put the right memory address, and unfortunately the address changes almost every day.

I have created a project in VS2003.Net under VisualC++.-->Windows32 Application. I have to make an executable file that I will be able to run from different machine. The purpose of this file is to read some files that are in a particular directory. I will run the VSC++ .exe file from this folder. So I have to use some code to get the currentdirectory(directory where the current exe file is existing). After getting the directory, I have to find all the files in this directory that has an extension of .config.
View 2 RepliesI have a process serves as an application updater. It checks it's local cache of files and compares this against list of files online. On it's first run there are no files in the local cache and it therefore downloads ~100 of these files.[code]This appears to work very well, since Explorer confirms that all files are extracted and available. However when I later run this process again, it cannot verify the existence of 6 of these files and therefore tries to download them despite the fact that they are clearly both present and up to date. The offending code is a simple File.Exists call which appears to deny the local existence of these files, and therefore tries to get them again. The system continues to work well, but over time the continual downloading of these 6 files is going to get kind of silly.

View 1 RepliesI am writing a clean up program to use in my computer repair business. I have been searching this site as well as Google to find an answer for how to get the size of the recycle bin. I would also like to be able to empty the recycle bin as well. I have not programmed in visual basic since VB6 so I am relearning the language.
