I've tried all but two things: 1) code that will work and 2) throwing this thing out the window. I feel like I can't find my glasses and the reason is that I'm already wearing them.

View 3 RepliesI've got an application that has a bug right now, but we're unable to update the end-user to get the fix out. What a possible workaround would be is to change the working directory to the application's install directory, but from what I can tell, there's no way to do that outside of the program itself.
View 2 Replieshow to copy, delete, show files, show current directory, change directory, make folder, rename folder. My problem is i have a method on deleting a file and copying a file, but i don't know how to pass the method so that when i click the delete button it would let me choose what file to delete. View 2 RepliesI have a process serves as an application updater. It checks it's local cache of files and compares this against list of files online. On it's first run there are no files in the local cache and it therefore downloads ~100 of these files.[code]This appears to work very well, since Explorer confirms that all files are extracted and available. However when I later run this process again, it cannot verify the existence of 6 of these files and therefore tries to download them despite the fact that they are clearly both present and up to date. The offending code is a simple File.Exists call which appears to deny the local existence of these files, and therefore tries to get them again. The system continues to work well, but over time the continual downloading of these 6 files is going to get kind of silly.
View 1 RepliesI would like to be able to either change the current directory (FTP) OR set it up when it first loads. My attempt to set it when the app first loads fails with a 550 error, when i try to change it using the method found here[code]....

I am using the above code to allow a user to change the AD password via an application, this is just a sample of the problem code. The error it is generating is that the password is not complex enough, and it does not matter what I put in the new password, it always reports "The password does not meet the password policy requirements. Check the minimum password length, password complexity and password history requirements. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800708C5)" I have tried it as user@domain domainuser I have then tested on one of the domain computers the same password and it changed there without issue. So I can only assume the error message is incorrect.I have tried several combination's of samples on line and they all seem to point back to this as the proper method, I feel certain I am overlooking something.
I am making a program and I want to press a button, and change to a process, such as firefox.exe, enter in the key sequence "space", textbox1.text, "enter", and the add one to textbox1.text. I think I've got the second half working, but I cant seem to change to firefox.exe :( Here's my code so far:

How can i change a process using only 1 core instead of 2 cores? Also, how can I set different prioritys to each process? As it does not save the settings which i put to each process in taskmanager on restart, i decided to make a program so i could simply click a button so it would change the settings for each process i want. For example:With a simple button click it changes msnmsgr.exe priority to low and makes it use only the 1st core.

View 1 RepliesI have a "Start" button and a label. The label.text during form load contains "Ready...". Now what I want, after I click the "Start" button, the button will become grey and the label.text contains "Processing...". I managed to make the button become grey, but I couldn't change the label.text from "Ready..." to "Processing..." and back to "Ready..." after completion of the task.
Here is the code:
Public Class Form1
Dim i As Integer
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
[Code] .....
*In actual, the do until loop contains more than just 2 lines.
What happened when I click the "Start" button were, it became grey, it filled up the texbox.text with number from 0 to 1000 and after it finished processing then the label.text change to "Processing..." where it supposed to appear before the loop start.

View 2 Replieswell, I must say I am a very beginner but want to get better, that is why I joined this forum.Anyway, I made a form with a button that opens a new form and a hidden cmd window (it closes it self automaticly).on the new form I have a label that says if "the program is running". I want that label to change to "Done!" when the process does not exist anymore.
View 2 RepliesI've got a common search button in my app that has the typical static magnifying image displayed on it. When the user clicks it I want the button's image to change to the animated search, to inform the user that the app is doing something (searching the database). Then when the search process is complete, change back to the static search image.

When I comment out the line to change the button's image back to the static search image, (as stated above), and click the search button, the app actually performs the search, then when the search is completed, it changes the button's image.
Apparently VB or .Net is performing the under-the-hood process before the display/paint process, even though that's not the way it's coded. give me some insights on how to fix this, AND also please inform me of why this behavior occurs so I can try to avoid it in the future.

I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).
View 4 Repliesi have used following code to repeat a process creation/close iteratively dim vProcessInfo as new ProcessInfo For i= 1 to 100 dim p as new Process vProcessInfo.Arguments = some"+i.toString() p.StartInfo = vProcessInfo p.Start() p.WaitForExit() p.Close() Next i the above code worked for me successfully. but it takes too much time for process creation and dispose. i had to change process argument dynamically in the iteration. is there any way to change the process argument dynamically. or is there any better method to reduce time.
View 1 RepliesEvery time I make even a very small change to a form in the form designer, when I try to move off the screen to write code, or run the application, VS 2010 takes up to 1 hour to figure out what the small change was, process it and then let me continue. Is there some fix that I am missing to make VS 2010 be able to handle small changes to the form_designer, or is this just the way it is?
View 6 RepliesI have populated a ListView with currently running processes and with the help of JMC, been able to highlight specific rows based on memory consumption. However, I've decided to change it up a little bit and change the color of rows based on whether the process is owned by the User, if it's a System process, or if is a Service. I've already been able to determine if the process is a User process by utilizing the OpenProcessToken.
