is it possible to get the name of the process that caused the change in the filesystem?i want to do this programmatically [ie, i can't use any external 3rd party tools like handle]
View 1 RepliesI have a Windows service that is watching a folder for files that will be placed there.(Created in Visual Studio 2005.)The files each represent a transaction, and the transactions have to be kept in order.As I process each file (transaction), I want to forward it to someone else.(The someone else wants them kept in order.)It looks like I can't paste multiple files into a folder simultaneously and still be sure that they will be processed in the order of the original date and time they were created.Nor can I be sure that they would be read in name order.(FileSystemWatcher would grab them in any old order it chose.)So I think I will have to move the files into the folder one at a time, in the proper sequence.But I'm wondering if I could get into a "racing" situation.
When FileSystemWatcher detects a file in a folder, it creates a new thread for your event handler to operate on.If it detects a second file while still processing the first file, would it then create yet another thread?If that is the case, then if File1.xml takes longer to process than File2.xml, it seems like File2.xml might finish first, resulting in my transactions getting out of order.In my own experiments,I have not seen evidence that multiple files are really processed simultaneously.I write messages to a log file as I process each transaction, and I never see messages from File1.xml's processing intermingled with File2.xml's messages.This seems to be true even when I paste both files into the folder simultaneously.it only keeps one event-handling thread going at a time, and queues up the events as they come, processing them on that single thread.Otherwise, I'll have to do something to ensure they are kept in order.
I have a filesystemwatcher that watches a certain folder.. Now i use system.thread.sleep to be sure that the file is completely copied to the folder that i watch..But this is not a good way!
I know there is a way to check if the file is open or used by another process, but i dont know the code..

When I run it and save changes to a file on my C drive, the code works great, except it executes the watcher_Changed() method four times. The changeType is "4" every time.
I've written the following code. It works fine for creating, deleting and renaming files. However when I set a file to read only, or modify the file (i.e open it in notepad and change the contents) nothing happens (it doesn't hit the change breakpoint)

When i push the close button on the top right of the exe i made, the process still runs. How can i make it to where when i close the exe it closes the process too? Also, (this is for shits and giggles) if i wanted to make a button that closed certain processes, what would the code be? For example, the button would close explorer.exe, googledesktop.exe, ect.

I.e. if a change has been made I need to ensure that an update is performed before the form actually closes.
I made a simple change to the coding. I changed a file extention from .s to .csv and now I get an error - "Illegal Characters in Path" grrrr.I get that error when the file path contains a space.

There will certainly be times when the user makes a change (in which case, I would want the event handler code to run).

How can i change a process using only 1 core instead of 2 cores? Also, how can I set different prioritys to each process?As it does not save the settings which i put to each process in taskmanager on restart, i decided to make a program so i could simply click a button so it would change the settings for each process i want.For example:With a simple button click it changes msnmsgr.exe priority to low and makes it use only the 1st core.

Now what I want, after I click the "Start" button, the button will become grey and the label.text contains "Processing...". I managed to make the button become grey, but I couldn't change the label.text from "Ready..." to "Processing..." and back to "Ready..." after completion of the task.

What happened when I click the "Start" button were, it became grey, it filled up the texbox.text with number from 0 to 1000 and after it finished processing then the label.text change to "Processing..." where it supposed to appear before the loop start.

When the user clicks it I want the button's image to change to the animated search, to inform the user that the app is doing something (searching the database). Then when the search process is complete, change back to the static search image.

When I comment out the line to change the button's image back to the static search image, (as stated above), and click the search button, the app actually performs the search, then when the search is completed, it changes the button's image.
Apparently VB or .Net is performing the under-the-hood process before the display/paint process, even though that's not the way it's coded. give me some insights on how to fix this, AND also please inform me of why this behavior occurs so I can try to avoid it in the future.
I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

View 1 RepliesEvery time I make even a very small change to a form in the form designer, when I try to move off the screen to write code, or run the application, VS 2010 takes up to 1 hour to figure out what the small change was, process it and then let me continue. Is there some fix that I am missing to make VS 2010 be able to handle small changes to the form_designer, or is this just the way it is?

However, I've decided to change it up a little bit and change the color of rows based on whether the process is owned by the User, if it's a System process, or if is a Service. I've already been able to determine if the process is a User process by utilizing the OpenProcessToken.

I have the filesystemwatcher path in my desktop. But when I create, re-name or delete something in the desktop it dosn't do anything, not even giving an error. I filter FileName, DirectoryName and LastWrite (the defaults).
The FileSystemWatcher have the EnableRaisingEvents set to true. So don't really know what the problem is.
I've tried google without any luck, all I found was people having problem that the FileSystemWatcher executed twice.
So do I have to do anything more on the code to get it to work?

If you compare it to the example, there really is very little difference, at least to me. "loadlist" is the equivalent of "main" in the example, "watchfile" is the equivalent of "run", and "OnChanged" is the same as in the example, but performing different actions. Right now its not doing anything. If I remove "Shared" from the subs then it works if the file changes once, but after that it does nothing. (I must admit I don't really know what making a sub "Shared" does).
