View 1 Repliesi have created a program to view images in a picturebox, i have created two list box's one for folder names/image areas to group certaint images and the second listbox to list the number of pages contained in the image folder/area. when the user creates a new image area, he or she can name it whatever they want, when they do that i would like to create a folder in the c drive for instance with the same name as the image area, and i would want it to create a .txt file aswell to keep memory of what they have done, so when they come back to it the next day they can just carry on from where they left off.

In Windows 7 if I launch Task Manager and select a process (eg:Notepad.exe) I can right click on this and select "Create Dump File".
This creates a dump of the file to my hard drive.I would like to do this programmatically.
The problem is: I have a list of objects, with some containing the same PlanId property value. I want to only grab the first occurrence of those and ignore the next object with that PlanId. The root problem is a View in the database, but it's tied in everywhere and I don't know if changing it will break a ton of stuff nearing a deadline.
So, if I have a list of PlanObjects like such.
Plan1.PlanId = 1
Plan2.PlanId = 1
Plan3.PlanId = 2
Plan4.PlanId = 3
Plan5.PlanId = 4
Plan6.PlanId = 4
I want to take a sub-list from that with LINQ (italics mean an item is not included)
Plan1.PlanId = 1
Plan2.PlanId = 1
Plan3.PlanId = 2
Plan4.PlanId = 3
Plan5.PlanId = 4
Plan6.PlanId = 4
For my needs, it doesn't matter which one is taken first. The Id is used to update a datsbase record.
Is there a way to override/modify/create the left-side shortcut buttons in the SaveFileDialog or OpenFileDialog controls? Defaults are "My Recent Documents", "Desktop", "My Documents", "My Computer", "My Network"... how would I change "My Recent Documents" to "My Super Cool Folder"?
View 1 RepliesI'm using the SaveFileDialog to save listbox info into a text file. The files save fine, but when you go to save the file, if you hit the cancel button, it will overwrite the previous file you saved, because it's name was the same and it seems to save the previous file as the new name for your next file. Is there any way to catch if the user clicks cancel, and then exiting the sub if they did?
View 2 RepliesEach year I have to create 1099s from a legacy system. So in the past I had Foxpro code that ran out of a directory near where the Foxpro dataware house was. In 2009 we moved to SQL so I have to convert the code to VB and SQL
But I need to still store the text files and the report and I wanted to save settings in this "working directory"

Finding documentation on XML is really difficult, because there is so much yet all of the examples seem to do it a different way.

I was trying to export a data from the listview control into an excel format and I was able to make it successfully using a command button directly. I want to use a SaveFileDialog to export and save the content of the listview. I searched from MSDN website and got a sample code which was originally intended for saving an image file. I tried to used it and edit the code and combine my code to export the data content. It ran successfully and attempt to export the data in an excel format but when you open the file in the path as to where you save the data, it gives you a message "Excel cannot open the file 'Filename.xlsx' because the file format or extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file." and it just leaves an empty excel file. I read from the MSDN site that if you are using an MS Office 2007, the file extension for excel would be '.xlsx' and not 'xls'. Let me give you the two codes I tried to use. First, I used command button and was able to successfully export and save the content in an excel format but using the SaveFileDialog was not successful. I suspected that there's something wrong within this line 'oBook.SaveAs("saveFileDialog1.FileName.GetType()")' and 'Dim fs As System.IO.FileStream = CType _(saveFileDialog1.OpenFile(), System.IO.FileStream)'.
Here are the two diffrent codes I used:
'Using the command button-----successful
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
Dim oExcel As Object

I have a windows form application written using vb.net 2005 to generate and save an excel file. I faced some problems with the saving of excel file. The program will prompt a message box with 'Yes', 'No' or 'Cancel' options if the existing file exists. If user choose 'Yes', it will override the existing file. If user choose 'No', it will open a savefiledialog to allow user to specify the location and name to save the file. Do i use filestream object to save the file when user choose either 'Yes' or 'No'? How can i go about doing it or where can i find sample coding.
