Dec 10, 2009we have a user that my program works fine for.. and another that it just crashes for.. they get this error
"You cannot start application <App_Name> from this location because it is already installed from a different location."
then they run it up again and it comes up.. and then just closes..in reading some stuff online it says its a framework 2.0 sp 1 issue ?these pc's have 3.5, but my program uses all 2.0 stuff..so is this a 2.0 sp level issue ? or should I make my programs start to use framework 3.0 instead ?

Apr 11, 2012I'm trying to make a rs232 serial data logging program, that accepts a 12 bit hex RFID tagID from an RFID module. My end objective is to save this RFID tagID into a database and assigned to a person for a personnel management system.I had to use button3 to add the value of the variable 'msg' into textbox1 because I was getting the following error "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'TextBox1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on". It is a temporary workaround.When I do press button3, I get the incomplete hex number, instead of "4C00A2C82A0C", I get "A2C82A0C", and sometimes I get random digits like 1,A,C etc etc.

Error Log File Location Not Working On Vista With UAC?
Oct 13, 2009I have a program that writes unhandled exception detail to a log file stored in the same directory as the program itself. I am wondering how I can have keep the file in the same location, and not have to worry about a file write access. With Vistas User Access Control enabled, the file is not accessible unless the program is run as an administrator, which I don't need it to be for anything else. The file does not exist all of the time, it only exists after an error occurs. Users are encouraged to email the file to me and then delete the file. Thus the file should only exist if their is a error that the user has not emailed. I really want to keep it in the same directory as the program itself, or within a subdirectory of the programs directory, since the portable version is exactly the same program executable and I would like to keep it that way. I am not sure how to go about setting the file security, set it when I create the file if the file doesn't exist, prompting for Administrator privileges to create it with the security. I was also thinking that I could just set the entire folder containing the program executable when it is installed, and then it would be able to create the file without having to have administrator privileges.

VS 2008 Multiline TextBox Location Error On Resize?
Apr 7, 2011I have a MDI form with different controls, two of they are multiline textboxes, and by default the form opens in normal state. Once opened, if I maximize the form all the controls location and size are as I wants (using the anchor property). And now comes the estrange error, if I have opened other form maximized, and then I open the first mentioned form, the multiline textboxes location is wrong, they are upper than the correct location.
Note 1: If I change multiline to false, all works fine.Note 2: The textboxes location is in the bottom of the form and the anchor is left, bottom and right.I try different possibilities and search information in the web without results.

Packet Capture And Threading, Capture Library Waits For "thread Stop"
Apr 5, 2009So I am hacking together an app which listens to traffic using SharpPcap library, it reconstructs the packets from sessions using the code from TpcRcon.
Listening and reconstructing part work on their own . What I want is on each packet arrival main window gets an event so it can display the packet , and when session is reconstructed display a complete packet (I am interested in HTTP ones) . -That is where it breaks with weird symptoms: for example right now it does not stop on invoking stop listening method - the sharppcap library function hangs there forever waiting on this line of code : m_pcapThreadEvent.WaitOne();//wait for the 'stopped' signal from thread
I also had it not working and crashing in sharppcap function because I had omitted one parameter in form delegate- which makes no sense, because form delegate does not deal with packet capture at all and only reacts on "New Packet" event from my "Listener" class (which is only there to notify main form)
My app starts as module main instancing class "Listener". MainForm has it
registered as friend with event and handles even "New Packet"

Dec 19, 2011i am using an unbound datagridview so i can dynamiclly add rows. all that is working fine. but the grid is not is the location i have coded.. i am using the defualt form as a base then coding the unbound stuff in.. should i just create a blank class file and do everything? the only problem i am having is the grid must bees in the correct location according to the pixel point that i have given it. Right now it is placing the grid at point (0,0) no matter what point is entered on the line for location. so what am i missing??????

Mar 13, 2012I have 2 group box components and both are same size,font,location and visible is false. When i click button2, the groupbox1 won't appear(the group box2 is on bottom n group box1 is on top).
Example:

Because i want to show the different,so the location have a little different(actually both are same location). I think my code is no problem. The problem i guess is both component cannot locate at same location?
VS 2008 Round E.Location To Nearest Grid Square Location?
Nov 9, 2009I was using this old method of creating a bunch of rectangles when I need to get the location of a certain point within a grid so I could draw images on the grid. The thing is, I don't want to use rectangles, I want to be able to just round the location as if I were using rectangles. I need it to be able to round the point (66,70) to (50,50) so if you can imagine a grid and the mouse position being within that square in the grid, I need to get the location of the upper left corner of that square.

Jul 21, 2009I have encounterd a problem when trying to re-enstall a program i have writen in vb 2008.I get the following message:"You cannot start application Shell from this location because it is already installed from a different location."This program is to be used on many workstation computers and i need to be able to update any changes by just reinstalling the program, no uninstalling needed first. If the program was installed from a cd first and needs to be updated from a flash disk this error will be a problem, if the update is from a cd as well then there is no problem.Is there a way to change the installation package to ignore where the program installs from and just update itself?

Debugging - Get An "Unable To Set The Next Statement To This Location" Error?
Dec 28, 2011I have two debugging issues and I'm not sure what I did to make them occur:
1) I get an "Unable to set the next statement to this location" error when I try to set a new line.
2) Some of my objects don't return their member variable values. I get a "Cannot evaluate expression because we are stopped in a place where garbage collection is impossible, possibly because the code of the current method may be optimized" error when I hover over them or try to expand the object into tree mode.
These two problems must be related. I did a lot of searching about managed code and just-in time debugging but nothing I tried did the trick (even unmanaged code had these errors).
edit: After some more research it seems that #1 only occurs in one specific function (naturally, a very important and large one). This function is located in a module. Problem #2 occurs in all areas of my project.
