I want to add all the records from table1 to table2. I want to do this 10 times if I execute the following statement: INSERT into Table2 SELECT * FROM Table1 ; Everything works perfectly. The two records are added to table2 But if I execute the stament a second time get the following message: Duplicate entry '1' for key 1 I now i must do something with "duplicate key update" in the Insert statement.
I am having a problem iterating through a BindingSource and pulling out each unique entry. I can't take credit for this code, as it was privided to me by jmcilhinney. Now, bsGames is a BindingSource, Platform is a column in that source, which does contain entries, as I am using their values in various labels on the form. What the code aims to do is iterate through the Platform column of the BindingSource, check to see if it is already in the platforms List and if not, add it there. When the loop is finished, it then binds the List to a dropdown combobox (cbbCategoryFilter). I am developing on VB 2005, .NET Framework 2.0. I was informed of another way to do this using LINQ by none other than the great jmcilhinney, and I mean that, not a suckup , but it requires .NET 3.5, which is unsupported in 2005. I'm remiss to use 2008 Express over my 2005 Pro, though, so I'm trying to get this to work.
I have even set up breakpoints and added the platform and platforms variables to the watch and even after executing this code, they remain empty, which baffles me as it seems it SHOULD work. I've read through the code several times and can see the logic of it plain as day. The program is going to be a glorified cataloger, which will store all sorts of data in several categories, such as games, movies, music, etc... This particular code is aimed to pull the distinct platforms from the Games table and put them into a dropdown so they can be filtered. I could just hardcode the Platforms into the dropdown, but I find it much more intuitive to find which ones actually exist in the BS, then just list those. You can see the benefits of this. Once this code is finished and working, I plan to filter the ListBoxs BindingSource with the text from the dropdown.
P.S. By the way, no errors whatsoever, just no results either. Dropdown remains empty, variables never change like they should.
I want to make a very simple program that remove duplicate domain name from a txt file. First, it must have a Open file Button so that it can load list of url to Listbox.
So, the URLs will be loaded into listbox. Then It has 2 more button Start and Save button Lastly one counter to calculate how many URL in that listbox
So example.. let say I have a txt file which contains URLs

I open this txt file and loaded it into listbox (can scroll)
Then when I press start button, it will delete the URL that has same domain name. so the output will look like this

Then I can save the URL from listbox to my disc drive as text file

I need help on improving the performance of a program I wrote some time back. This is the main performance issue of the program below. Basically I need to look through some data that is displayed to a user in a list view and determine if the data is a duplicate of any other data in the list. If it is I need to delete the duplicate before my program continues.The below code does the job just fine, however the list view of data has approximately 30,000 rows of data. Hence looping this list 30,000 to the power 30,000 times makes the program very slow. Note subItem(4) in the data is the "unique" identifier that I later discovered was not so unique....
This was a work around function implemented in the code back when I wrote it (not meant to be permanent). I know that listView is not Ideal to store this much data.how to store the data in a more efficient manner or improve the performance of the Search and Delete [code].....

I am trying to create a small form that will duplicate a users entry for them.On my form i have a text box and two CheckListBox controls and a button. The user should be able enter a value into the text box, and select multiple items from both CheckedListBoxes, when they click the submit button the details will be added to a DataGridView below.
This is an example,The user enters the value Audi A4 into the textbox.
The First Checked Lsit Box is called "Colour" and from the options the user checks 'Red' and 'Blue'.
The second Checked List Box is called "Number of Doors" and from the options the user checks '3' and '5'.

I am working on DataEntry Forms in VB.NET There are two controls are having in a present window. One is Combobox and one is Textbox. Combobox values are Mobile, FAX, E-mail. By the mistake some one enter the values like , In the combobox-E-mail and in the Textbox-9987453434. Finally these are saved on the Database. But i want to Re Enter the values.
For this i was selected in the Combobox-Mobile and in the Textbox-9987453434. These are the right values i want to save on the database.
But here the problem is that Phone number column(Textbox) is Indexed. (Unique) or No Duplicates in the database. Now i want to update only one column which is coming from Combobox in the database.
I'm making a sign in/out program using mysql and visual basic and need a little help I have two tables event_in and event_out and under each table I have event_id, which automatically generates a number(starting from 1) for each row. I was wondering if it's possible to generate the numbers based on the users. So let's say User A comes and signin, 1 is generated into the event_id. Then User B comes and signs in. I want 1 generated for him too...so all User A's event_id will be 1,2,3... and each user's event_id for both the in and out table will also be the same.
With this I will be able to subtract each user's timestamp in event_out from that of event_in to get how long they were in. I believe that if I don't generate the numbers separately for each user, then let's say User A signs in (1 is generated for event_id in the event_in table) but does not sign out yet and then User B comes and signs in (he get 2 for the in) but then he signs out before User A does and he gets 1 for the out and user A gets 2 for the out. So now user and with my current query I will not be able to calculate the timestamp.

I have a table in an access db that is viewed via a datagrid view in a vb.net front end.The primary keys for this table are PKJobNo & PKProcessNo I need to allow the user to change the order of the processeses which means changing the PKProcessNo field value and then re-ordering the grid by PKProcessNo In the example below
proc 3 becomes proc 2
proc 4 becomes proc 3
and
proc 2 becomes proc 4
I can't just change for instance process 2 to 4 as these are unique values.

Possible Duplicate: Retrieve identity value from inserted record's primary key.I have a field with a unique field (that I don't have to update automatically) called ID. I'm using this code to add a field to it:

What I need to be able to do is get the unique field it adds. It +1's to ID every time I add a field there, but how do I get that without hacky database looping?

Im pretty use to doing loops (although still relative new to vb) in my code however am having difficulty setting up one that picks up an entry in one data table and then sums a field in another where records have matching criteria. Example:

What i am trying to do is set up a datagridview on a form that shows the summary data. The time is controlled on the form by a trackbar (output to textbox) and I started setting up a loop using (For/Next) to isolate firstly the matching entries in field 3 (time). This works fine. I then used compute to sum the the field 2. However what i want to do is to loop through table 2 and where entries match i.e. where Field 1 in table 2="A" sum matching entries in table 1 where the DateTime matches.

I am trying to limit this list to rows which have unique Dates and unique quantities in LINQ. I want to remove items with the HIGHER priority leaving rows with unique dates and qty's.
I have tried several group by's using Max and order by's but have not been able to get a result.
Is there any way to do this via linq?

I am having major problems with creating my tables and populating them.The problem for the creating seems to lie when I try to create my table named WeeklyUnitStaffRota. I get the run time error 2147467259(80004005) No unique index found for the referenced field of the primary table. Basically, I can read the field's content, using this code:
SQL = "SELECT * FROM `boomtable` WHERE `Tab1` = 'CLOSED'"
However, I want to update the Tab1 field to have the value OPEN if it's currently closed, and make the value CLOSED if it's currently OPEN.. Right now, it's CLOSED, (I put the value in manually when making my table)
Here is the code I'm using that changes my label based on the Tab1 field's value that works fine... Except I want to actually make it update the field in the database in addition to changing the label text.[code]...
