I'm using vb express 08 and I'm writing a program that requires the name of (and possibly location) as the form header as well as the name of the program itself.
for example; when you open MS Word, the title displayed at the top is [file name] - Microsoft Word

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to get my Applications title bar to change the text once the user loads up a file. So far I have gotten it so it will load up the File name into the title bar, but I would like it to show MicroText - OpenFileName... OpenFileName being the name of the file that was opened.

The hacker in me wants to stop using XMLWriter to make the file so that I have more control over the header; "no problem, I'll just write a loop that makes its own XML tags as a StreamWriter or something, forget this XMLWriter object..." but I must admit that XMLWriter has been rather elegant to use so far; surely there must be something where I can change the XMLWriterSettings object to say "stop putting your custom properties in to the XML header please", right?

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to dynamically create a listview. on reports.aspx user selects a bunch of checkboxes. On the next page, user sees reports.aspx, and should see a table with columns of the checkboxes he selected. My idea was to create a listview, then dynamically change the header row of the LayoutTemplate, then change the select statement depending on which columns selected. This is what I have:

Problem is that this doesn't work because i can't put a code block (<%%>) inside the LayoutTemplate. Is there a way in the code behind to edit the LayoutTemplate, or another way to cycle through the Request.Form vars and build the table header row with it?
How could I change the column header of the Data Grid to center or right but not left as default? As far as i can think of it can be achieved via overriding the paint event but i have not done any overriding of paint events on windows controls so far.
How to change the font color of the column header text in my datagridview if the entire column is read-only. I basically use a loop to add columns to my datagridview and then set the properties of the columns. This is the first time I've seen such a recommendation and to me it's just an unnecessary and ugly clutter but I'm wondering if someone could explain why M$ recommends this?

I'm using the following code to populate a DataGridView with a worksheet. This is working fine, however, I'm unsure how I can get the Text from the page header. (not to be confused with the column header). Later in my code when I am exporting into an existing workbook with a new worksheet, I'm wanting to use the header text as the tab name. Is there a better way to make a form with multiple buttons opening different things than having a form that has lots group boxes for each tab. So in the begining each box will be invisible and when you click the button the corresponding group box will become visible. Is there any other way?It will be like a background image and it'll have buttons that will mask it with invisible buttons. when the button is clicked it will open the corresponding group box.

however, I am stuck at BinaryReader.actually this is what i am trying to acheive through VB.NET.say for the following file type :
JPG file = FF D8 FF E0
BMP file = 42 4D BE 4E
PNG file = 89 50 4E 47
GIF file = 47 49 46 38
the above are the 4-byte headers in Hex(raw) I need to read these headers of any given file using OpenFileDialog using Button1_click event,on selection of any given file(*.* filters ON)it should use the BinaryReader and look for only 4-bytes starting from offset 0, and it should not go to EOF marker (-1).and have a variable to hold this 4-byte header value, to run this in a database table which will check the same header value in the table and would display the corresponding extension of the file. from the table.
I can do this using case, if then...etc.however, I have to do it using Database and also i need to check for testing purpose to use MsgBox() to display this variable which is holding the 4-byte header.however, the MsgBox doesnt allow anything other than String.
PS: I tried studying the methods like:
FileOpen/Seek/Peek/ReadBytes().
but still not sure how to get them work.
How can I either create a new website or add a host header to an existing IIS 7 server from code?
