View 5 RepliesScenario: FormA has a DataGridView with a DataTable as it's DataSource. The DefaultView of the DataTable is set to a particular filter, say "UnitFreight < 2.00". The user selects multiple rows then selects a context menu item to open up form2. Form2 does a bunch of stuff and in this example it will change the UnitFreight value in the selected rows on form1 to say 2.27. It also raises an event in form1 to adjust attribute cells such as UnitPrice.
The issue is that doing the above example puts the selected rows out of the range of the applied filter and I believe this is the issue because I end up getting a "Column named UnitPrice cannot be found" error. This is happening during the update of those attribute columns. I'm guessing the row has been filtered out so there's no column to be found. If I do the update without the filter applied it works fine. So my question is, what's the best approach to updating the data in this situation. I've started converting the updates to work against the DataTable directly instead of the DataGridView.
i have 2 computers - a Server and a Client pc which is running on local area network with MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2008 R2 Developer kit at the main pc and Client computer will need to connect to SQL SERVER at main pc using connection string.Let me named server computer as 'MAGNA-PC' and the client pc as 'LAC-PC' and database name is 'db_referafriend' so the code for MAGNA-PC(server) connection string is:[code] i GOOGLE and YOUTUBE for almost 2 weeks before i post . I know that i need to configure the sql configuration manager and enable tcp/ip also add a new port at firewall to allow remote connection also add the sqlserver.exe and sqlbrowser in firewall and I have also chosen "Using both TCP/IP and named pipes" under Remote Connections in the SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration. and all of this doesnt work!
View 10 RepliesI have a DataSet that contains 1 DataTable, and the DataTable contains only 1 row of data. I want to loop through all columns in that row and say:
Column name = column value
so for example if the column name is FAVORITE_FOOD and the value is pizza, I should display FAVORITE_FOOD = pizza I can get the column name from column.ColumnName and the value from Rows(0).Item(0), but for the life of me I can't put it all together in a simple loop.
I am having problems finding an named object declared in XAML in my codebehind file.I want to initalize a ViewModel from inside my View. However I also need a reference to the ViewModel in my code behind file (basically for navigation support, handling events, etc. that I cannot do easily from my ViewModel)[code]However I get a null reference exception when I'm trying to access the ViewModel in my code behind:[code]Some more research shows that the FindName call for "ViewModel" in InitalizeComponent returns null. I tried reading up on XAML namescopes etc. but as far as I see, this should be a simple case and just work, no?
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to create a routine in VB.NET with a name-based parameter array? The WebMethod attribute built into the framework is used exactly this way: WebMethod(BufferResponse:=False)
Specifically, I'd like to use it in a class' constructor. I'd like something similar to this:
New MyObject(id:=10,buffer:=True)
I'm not even sure what the terminology is for this kind of parameter list, so I can't even find it when searching.
This is something that has been bugging me for a while as it is easily fixed but not desirable.I have a DataGridView that has 5 columns. The first is called ID.In vb.net the following line gives an error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object": dgvJobs.Columns("ID").Visible = False ' ERROR dgvJobs.Columns(0).Visible = False ' OK
Obviously using the name is much better than a hard coded value to reference the column but wondering if there is anything i can do to get this to work correctly?The datagridview datasource is BindingSource control with the datasource being a dataset.

I have an issue with the VB IDE My project was working fine.I was adding some combo boxes and adding some code for the combo boxes to the form "iNet_MDI". I ran it in debug a few times to watch it and the next thing I know, I see "Key not Found Parameter name:key" in the Warning list. It says the Warning is on line 369 in iNet_MDI.Designer.vb.When I click on this message, it takes me to line 369 which is "Me.gb_RTO.Font = NewSystem.Drawing.Font("Arial", 10.0!, System.Drawing.FontStyle.Regular,System.Drawing.GraphicsUnit.Point, CType(0, Byte)I can comment this line out and the warning still exists and it still points to the same line.
I have tried to rebuild the project and clean the project.I have tried commenting out alot of the code, but nothing seems to clear this warning message. I can't get to the Design screen to try to remove any tools from the form. An error screen appears in place of the Designer I t gives me the option to "ignore and continue", which does not work.I see the Call Stack here on this page and it says:

This is something that's been bugging me for a while. Say I have a dgv with several columns and rows of data. Many times while working with the grid, it's necessary to know the number of the column, but all you know is the column header name, or vice versa. Is there any internal command that will return these values, or is there at least a better solution to the problem than making a function that loops through every header name until you find the one you want? It just seems so inefficient.

I'm currently using a combo box to select one of many alternatives. From 5 alternatives only 1 works, when i click on any other it gives me the following error:"Cannot bind to the property or column 'xyz' on the DataSource.Parameter name: dataMember" Why is this error caused? What are the possible solutions to this error?

One of the things that I think is really cool about VB.NET is how built-in functions and subs have extra help text in their ToolTips like "Expression: String expression to search for replace string." as well as the usual "Replace(...parameters...) as string" text. So are the pop up boxes with things like "CompareMethod.Binary" or "CompareMethod.Text." And finally I like how some functions and subs have different sets of parameters for the same routine. For example, New FileStream() starts with either a path (string) parameter or handle parameter, but none of the 15 sets of parameters contain both path and handle parameters. Is there a way that I can set up the classes and functions I write to use these things or do they only work with built in classes and functions? If there is a way, what are the proper names for them so I can look them up in the VS/VB documentation? I would be happy enough if someone would give me an example of them, but it would be nicer if I could go through the documentation and find out if there are other cool things that are related or near by.
