Is it possible to consume a web service via code and not the normal way? Reason I ask is my app makes a decision on which of two web services it needs to connect to at run time, and I need to be able to do this with changing it at design time.

I am using the DeviceXPlorer OPC Server V4.1.1.1 program to connect to the Omron PLC. I have made two programs, one is a form program which works fine, two is a windows service program where it does not let me connect to the OPC Server. I'm a rookie in Visual Basics 2008 and i am trying to make a program to communicate and read tags from an Omron PLC. I am trying to connect to the PLC via devicexplorer opc server, because it can let me read DInts and Reals from the PLC tags. I have referenced Microsoft ActiveX Datas Objects 2.5 Library and OPC DA Automation Wrapper 2.02. I have made some code which connects to the PLC "in a form", but I cannot use the same code and connect through as a Windows Service program.Here is my code,

Note: this code is run in a timer on the windows service, it connects properly to the "RSLinx OPC Server", but "Takebishi. Dxp.1" (devicexplorer shortcut) exits the sub routine at MyServer.Connect(PLCServer) ' connect to the opc server.
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

What I'm trying to do is monitor a file and if it exists then then copy it's contents to a database, then delete the file. Currently it only adds the data one time and does not delete the file.why it will not keep adding the data or deleting the file?

View 3 RepliesI did a search on the internet but came up with very limited results. I'm using asp/vb and need to create a n application that does the following steps:
1. User defines web service URLs to WSDL pages .. populated in combo drop down (already coded)
2. User selects web service - Clicks Connect
3. User is prompted for any input fields the web service requests.
4. Output (in XML) is displayed after input fields are populated.
I know how to reference web services in the development environment, and use them... but have no idea how to dynamically create them and show the input fields requested.
I'm currently starting work on my first windows service and I've encountered what I find to be a strange error. For some reason the compiler is telling me that a whole bunch of typical classes (such as Image, Bitmap, Graphics, etc) do not exist. For example, these simple lines of code, which work perfectly in a normal project, return a bunch of errors:

What i want to happen is for the dictionary keys and items to be overwritten each time it is executed, as the data needs to be up to date.

Now in code I am trying to assign the results of my web service call to an array of my type like so..[code]When I do this the complier complains, saying: "Value of 1 dimensional array of my.namespace.MyClass cannot be converted to 1 dimensional array of my. namespace. MYWS.MyClass because my.namespace.MYSW.MyClass is not derived from my.namespace.MyClass"Now I understand the message, the thing is they are the same class. The class is declared in my calling code by the web service references a dll from that project. How do I tell the compiler that these are the same type?

The code is for a ASP.NET web service, when I click invoke on the website i get the error Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'FOR'. If I remove FOR XML AUTO, ELEMENTS everything works find, db updates but I dont get the data to output as XML. I think the issue is with the brackets required for the insert values because this issue does not occur if the SQL statement is a SELECT statement which has no brackets but i just cant figure out the correct syntax?

View 2 RepliesI already know how to call insert, update, delete & select procedures in DataSet.xsd window. And I also know how to call queries by table adapters. But I just found out that its not possible to call all functions by queries (such as insert). It works when I test the query but when I try to add it, it says "Failed to get schema for this query". So I built a few stored procedures which do many functions (such as transaction, insert, update etc...). But I am unable to use these stored procedures in VB form. I found some tutorials mentioning that it can be done by defining connections and some other stuffs with which I don't want this to be. I want to call these procedures by writing code in VB code editor window with DataSets, TableAdapters, BindingSource etc...

View 4 RepliesThis is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.
Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.

In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string.How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?

View 7 RepliesI'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?

Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?
how to deploy a service made in VB.net. Most of the websites just say use installutil.exe this is fine while your testing your service on your local machine whit vs2010 on it. I am in the final stage now of my service like 99% is done and my last % is how to get my service installed on the server i need it on. I can't publish because this wont work with a VB.net Service Project. So all i want is a clean and easy Tutorial or Someone who can explain me how to do this without the need to install VS2010 on the server to get install-util.
View 4 RepliesWe have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?
