View 2 RepliesI'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?
View 1 Repliesi have a WPF application that uses a service reference to a web service.Now i have a GUI component that tracks the progress of this...But i seem to have some sort of bug here, it only occurs on some machines and not often..I start a call with MethodNameAsync and display the progress bar until the matching Completed event occurs.
some times i call 3 different async methods in a row but only the two of them get their Completed event raised so the GUI will be locked and the application has to be restarted.After being totally frustrated a few weeks i found the event AppDomain.CurrentDomain.FirstChanceException, so i hooked up to it and started logging all FirstChanceExceptions..

Fix this temporary by not using async methods and instead using a thread that will call them one by one.. now this is not a elegant solution, i should be able to use the async methods...
While I write some code in VB 2008 Express, I could not see ciodm.dll (Indexing Service)in Reference. This library is just missing!

I don't have the ability to choose dynamic path as in VS 2005, which is the best way to switch URL from dev, test and prod environment for this application? Should I create some factory class that read a value from the app.config and return a service reference with the correct URI?
View 1 RepliesI'm just a starter in silverlight and WCF. I came across a very good article here by Miguel A. Castro which teaches to add the WCF manually. I have the contract service setup and the only thing I left is to get the data back from the service in the silveright. I have a hard time translate the code to vb.net.

I've got a service running (well, it doesn't crash), but when I try to add a Service Reference to it, I keep getting:

I'm integrating one of our apps with a third-party provider's web service. I've added the service reference, but when I go to dimension a var as one of their types, the types aren't showing up for me in Intellisense. I'm using VB.NET/VS 2008 on Windows 7 and a 2.0 Framework web site running on local IIS. I have imported System.Web and System.Web.Service in my codebehind. I also made sure to check the "Always generate message contracts" checkbox.Types not showing up for service reference

I developed the sample WCF services and to consume it I have developed the client project.
In client project I need to give the service reference, however I noticed here Add service reference option is missing.
Today I was build one Windows Service Application which has the reference to 4 Dll. After building the Release I found that there was one more DLL in addition to the reference I have. I checked using ILDASM and it only showed 4 dlls.What could be the issue ? How I can I check why it is getting unwanted DLL's in Release Folder?

When I add a service reference to my VB.Net project all of the properties of type DateTime get changed to type Date. The project is ASP.Net using framework 4.0. The web service being referenced is C# framework 4.0. How can I keep this from happening?

I'm attempting to consume a HTTP Basic Auth Secured PHP WebService using VB.NET. I've so far managed to get 100% perfect integration by adding it as a Web Reference and doing the following:

CredentialCache.Add(New Uri(MyWebService.Url), "Basic", Credentials)

I can also successfully add the webservice as a 'Service Reference' and this also works fine, as long as i turn off all HTTP authentication on the SOAP server.
My problem is that I can't find any documented means of sending basic HTTP Auth Credentials when using Service References as opposed to 'Web References'
Am I right in my understanding that 'Web References' are a legacy method of Web Service consumption?

View 6 RepliesWe have an asp.net 3.5 web application calling a WCF service. Originally the app used a "Web Reference" to register the service however after having some trouble and burning an incident with Microsoft their solution was to replace the "Web Reference" with a "Service Reference" to the WCF service.
This is great except the problem is that when we create a Service Reference, the method signatures are different than they were when a Web Reference was used.
From what I've read this may be expected, however in our case this would mean some significant changes to the application and of course it was due yesterday...so...
...I'm wondering two things:
Is it normal/expected that method signatures will change based on the reference type? Is there a way to create the Service Reference that will generate method signatures identical to the original Web Reference?
I am currently writing a program in Visual Basic 2008 express edition to read and write to tags on an Omron PLC. I am using the DeviceXPlorer OPC Server V4.1.1.1 program to connect to the Omron PLC. I have made two programs, one is a form program which works fine, two is a windows service program where it does not let me connect to the OPC Server. I'm a rookie in Visual Basics 2008 and i am trying to make a program to communicate and read tags from an Omron PLC. I am trying to connect to the PLC via devicexplorer opc server, because it can let me read DInts and Reals from the PLC tags. I have referenced Microsoft ActiveX Datas Objects 2.5 Library and OPC DA Automation Wrapper 2.02. I have made some code which connects to the PLC "in a form", but I cannot use the same code and connect through as a Windows Service program.Here is my code,

Note: this code is run in a timer on the windows service, it connects properly to the "RSLinx OPC Server", but "Takebishi. Dxp.1" (devicexplorer shortcut) exits the sub routine at MyServer.Connect(PLCServer) ' connect to the opc server.
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

What I'm trying to do is monitor a file and if it exists then then copy it's contents to a database, then delete the file. Currently it only adds the data one time and does not delete the file.why it will not keep adding the data or deleting the file?
Currently we're using in [code]... to set the namespace, can this be done in web.config, instead? I've looked but can't find where?

1. User defines web service URLs to WSDL pages .. populated in combo drop down (already coded)
2. User selects web service - Clicks Connect
3. User is prompted for any input fields the web service requests.
4. Output (in XML) is displayed after input fields are populated.
I know how to reference web services in the development environment, and use them... but have no idea how to dynamically create them and show the input fields requested.

recreating a board game with 36 picBoxes representing each block in the game.image is displayed in the picBox1 to start. then roll die (generate random num 2-12) now i want to move the image (gamepiece) to the picbox that corresponds to the die total.so if i'm at picbox1 and roll a 10, it should display the image in picbox11.problem is once i generate die throw i dont know how to reference picbox11 in my code (or if its possible?)[code]

View 3 RepliesI'm currently starting work on my first windows service and I've encountered what I find to be a strange error. For some reason the compiler is telling me that a whole bunch of typical classes (such as Image, Bitmap, Graphics, etc) do not exist. For example, these simple lines of code, which work perfectly in a normal project, return a bunch of errors:
Bitmap b = new Bitmap(destWidth, destHeight); //Error 13 The type or namespace name 'Bitmap' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
