In my old VB6 programs I use control events like Keydown to activate code. The code is the same for all text controls. However, I am hoping that there is a efficient way of handing this in VB.net. Using VB2010.
Private Sub txtField1_KeyDown(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles txtField1.KeyDown
ButtonState2()
End Sub
Private Sub txtField2_KeyDown(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles txtField2.KeyDown

I am trying to make key shortcuts (e.g.: control + c = copy) in my program, but it seems to work in everything BUT the webbrowser control. I have keypreview set to TRUE, and have the code "for each control.... addhandler....form1.keydown" (you get the point).

I have a TextBox which Is allowed only to read certain characters. I use KeyPress event to handle this event. I understand that The KeyPress event does not handle the pressing of the DELETE key on the keyboard. I do not want the user to be able to delete characters in the txtbox by using the DELETE key, I want the user only to be able to use the backspace key. I am writing this code in Visual Basic 2005. The following code appears to work in handling the DELETE key, but I am concerned that I might get bitten by the fact that I am using KeyDown and KeyPress on the same control (txtSource).
private sub txtSource_KeyDown(byval sender as object, byval e as KeyEventArgs) handles txtSource.KeyDown IF e.KeyData = System.Windows.Forms.Keys.Delete then e.handled=true end if end sub
I want load event to be activated whenever coming from Main page to Inputpage and activate event when coming from output page to input page.But what i am getting is that only for the first time load is activated and for all other only activate is called.
I have a pong type of game and I want the spacebar to pause the game... Here is my code to detect when the space bar is pressed.
Private Sub PongMain_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown If e.KeyValue = Keys.Space Then Application.Exit()[code]....
For some reason the application is not closing... IS there something wrong with this code that I am not seeing?
In the application I'm working on I use F1 and also a right mouse click to close the application since the graphics display full screen and there's no control in the upper right corner to close with. I use a good number of different keypresses to control things and everything works fine. When I switch away from the form that the applications starts in to a different form I'm not getting any response from either a KeyDown or a KeyPress event. Maybe someone knows what's going on. The ButtonClick and MouseDown events are responding just fine but for some reason the KeyDown and KeyPress events aren't. Below is code for one of the Forms that is unresponsive in this way. Load , Initialize , Activate . What's the difference among them ? Up to now I was used to the classic VB6 events , but it seems that in .NET they are different . I was used to these ones :Load / Initialize : both the first step before showing a form . One appeared in VB6 , the other in VBA .Activate : triggered when a form is selected .However I thing that now , not only they differ , but they also come in a different order ...
I try to catch the keydown event, but arrow keys don't fire this event, although I set KeyPreview = True. Arrow keys neither fire the KeyUp event. Not on the form or on any controls..
What is required to handle:
1. Arrow keydown or keyUp event with individual event handler based on mouse focus/hover (does the control have focus if mouse hovers on it, or it needs to be clicked?)
2. Mouse scroll events individually based on "mouse focus"
I don't actually need for the form... Since all the form is covered by controls.. But I need individually for different controls. Which are just buttons, labels and a chart control.
I have never dealt with dynamic control events before. I have a variable number of a controls each created at runtime. However I don't know how to code events for each control as they should do different things. I've looked at WithEvents and AddHandler and know I have to use Sender however not sure how to use /where to put eg. MouseEnter 1 panel when there's several.
Looked up a number of pages on KeyDown, and KeyPress events, and am just more confused than when I started. I am trying to get an event to fire adding value to a total when a user presses the Enter key. Not getting any compiler errors, and have tried utilizina MSDN's suggestions for IsInput, and PreviewKeydown. None are working..... I have tried working in the KeyDown using e.keyCode = Keys.Enter, and KeyPress using e.keyChar.Equals(Keys.Enter) in my conditionals.
Protected Overrides Function IsInputKey(ByVal keyData As System.Windows.Forms.Keys)
i have a datagridview in which i want to know which row is selected by mousedown or keydown.. so in both case i want to use only ONE subroutine which can give e.rowindex , e.colindex value of datagridview...
Example..
Private Sub xyz (s as sender, e as keydownaurguments, m as mousedownaurguments) handles keydown, mousedown '\\ code end sub
I have an application similar to calculator, with button from 0 to 9, Enter and Clear. I made it possible to use the buttons by clicking on them and also by using numpad, like shown below: Private Sub Form1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown
Is it possible to set focus on the keydown event so after the button control, sets the focus into the keydown? although says often control can have focus,.Putting a button and a keydown event on a form...
when I added a textbox to my form, my keydown events no longer work. It seems impossible to get the blinking cursor out of the textbox so as to avoid targeting it. How do I retain keydown events when a textbox is added to the form?
I am trying to use the keydown/keyup events with buttons in the same project and it not working properly. I have 4 red boxes and when I press an arrow key the box should change to green according to which arrow key it corrosponds to. I have this part working fine, however only when there is nothing else in the project. When I add in say 3 buttons, Button1, Button2, Button3 and try runing the program instead of the correct red box changing to green, button outline just moves between buttons 1,2 and 3. I have tried turning tabstop off for the three buttons but that didnt work. how to read the keydown/keyup while still having buttions that can be pressed with a mouse?
I created a control that has picture box control docked within it. This control allows me to "animate" the image by swapping them out by setting the interval to swap them at. I want to use this control kind of like an animated icon within a application, but because the picture box is docked, the control I created won't respond to the events, MouseHover specifically. had a quick question that I dont think is too difficult, the solution just isn't too apparent to me.I put an option in my program that will allow a user to redownload a setup file and repair a program installation and I wanted the program to automatically launch the msi file and pass a command line arguent to use the repair function in the installer.This code works perfectly to launch the installer, but the user has to manually click repair.
I am creating an Excel add-in written in VB.NET. I would like to bind KeyDown and KeyUp events to the spreadsheet to record when the user presses and releases the arrow keys while navigating the spreadsheetIdeally, these events would be built into Excel alongside the native SheetActivate and SheetSelectionChange events, for example. Alas, they are not.
i m using visual basic 2008. i created a button i take my cursor over it and instead of clicking, i want the code associated with the button activated whe i press some key, say up arrow. how can i do that. also code shud get activated if i press click or enter key.
how do i activate a textbox in the webbrowser control? I have this code to navigate to the webpage but it does send the keys since the textbox in the webbrowser is not activated:
I was making a program where it takes text from a textbox on one form, and places into a textbox on another form. If the first text I am taking says "test" Then the buttons code would be:
Form2.TextBox1.Text = Me.TextBox1.Text
This works, however, if there were two textboxes in the first form, and I wanted this:
I have written a programm with visual basic 2008 express edition and I'd like to use the parallel port to communicate with my self-made circuit. I want to controll 120 LEDs with the parallel port but I don't get it how. I know how to activate the databus but not how to activate the control lines of the parallel port.
MSDN brings nothing up, so here was my attempt at a work around.

Because event leave calls another sub i need the last active control. I have the textbox name txtTime{0} but obviously string is not a control.
So Two questions:
1) can a string value be attached to an existing control if i know it's name? Dim attControl as Control = newTime
2) All this could be avoided in event leave if i could get the left controls name. I have tried sender. tostring etc but nothing returns the textboxs name
Is there a way in which a case statement can be constructed to call, activate or triger a button control? If not, is there a way any statement can be created to activate a butt non control?
how to remove a backgroundimage in the code whenever I activate colordialog :
[Code]...
I have a backgroundimage on the Me.(form1), I want it to be replace by the color choosen by the user with colordialog, right now it only changes every other form because the : me.backcolor = colordialog1.color has a backgroundimage.
I have been developing a calculator for complex math. (Much more complicated than +,-,/,*, and above your usual scientific calculator)Its works quite well .In past programs I have used "private functions". I know that you give them a value and it returns on back. But what if you dont want to recive or send value? My example for this is a function I am attempting to make called "Autopi".The idea of Autopi is that whenever a mathimatical operation is about to be performed textbox(s) are cheked to see if they contain pi. (3.14 or 3.141) If they test positive Autopi will continue pi to however many places have been specifyed in the program. (Currently 300 places just beacuse i can :) Before the Autopi function does this it chekes to see if variable "pi" = 1. If it does it proceeds if it doesent its job is done
How would I create a code that can be called apon to activate but not recive or send any information through the program.And just to clarify what I mean by that is it will read information out of a textbox and write into it. But it wont actualy recive anything or send anything back from where it was called apon.
