Adding A Textbox To The Form Prevents The Program From Recognizing Keydown Events?
Sep 2, 2011
when I added a textbox to my form, my keydown events no longer work. It seems impossible to get the blinking cursor out of the textbox so as to avoid targeting it. How do I retain keydown events when a textbox is added to the form?
I have a TextBox which Is allowed only to read certain characters. I use KeyPress event to handle this event. I understand that The KeyPress event does not handle the pressing of the DELETE key on the keyboard. I do not want the user to be able to delete characters in the txtbox by using the DELETE key, I want the user only to be able to use the backspace key. I am writing this code in Visual Basic 2005. The following code appears to work in handling the DELETE key, but I am concerned that I might get bitten by the fact that I am using KeyDown and KeyPress on the same control (txtSource).
private sub txtSource_KeyDown(byval sender as object, byval e as KeyEventArgs) handles txtSource.KeyDown IF e.KeyData = System.Windows.Forms.Keys.Delete then e.handled=true end if end sub
I am creating an Excel add-in written in VB.NET. I would like to bind KeyDown and KeyUp events to the spreadsheet to record when the user presses and releases the arrow keys while navigating the spreadsheetIdeally, these events would be built into Excel alongside the native SheetActivate and SheetSelectionChange events, for example. Alas, they are not.
I have a pong type of game and I want the spacebar to pause the game... Here is my code to detect when the space bar is pressed.
Private Sub PongMain_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown If e.KeyValue = Keys.Space Then Application.Exit()[code]....
For some reason the application is not closing... IS there something wrong with this code that I am not seeing?
In the application I'm working on I use F1 and also a right mouse click to close the application since the graphics display full screen and there's no control in the upper right corner to close with. I use a good number of different keypresses to control things and everything works fine. When I switch away from the form that the applications starts in to a different form I'm not getting any response from either a KeyDown or a KeyPress event. Maybe someone knows what's going on. The ButtonClick and MouseDown events are responding just fine but for some reason the KeyDown and KeyPress events aren't. Below is code for one of the Forms that is unresponsive in this way. [code]...
I am trying to make key shortcuts (e.g.: control + c = copy) in my program, but it seems to work in everything BUT the webbrowser control. I have keypreview set to TRUE, and have the code "for each control.... addhandler....form1.keydown" (you get the point).

In my old VB6 programs I use control events like Keydown to activate code. The code is the same for all text controls. However, I am hoping that there is a efficient way of handing this in VB.net. Using VB2010.
Private Sub txtField1_KeyDown(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles txtField1.KeyDown ButtonState2() End Sub Private Sub txtField2_KeyDown(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles txtField2.KeyDown [Code].....
I try to catch the keydown event, but arrow keys don't fire this event, although I set KeyPreview = True. Arrow keys neither fire the KeyUp event. Not on the form or on any controls..
What is required to handle:
1. Arrow keydown or keyUp event with individual event handler based on mouse focus/hover (does the control have focus if mouse hovers on it, or it needs to be clicked?)
2. Mouse scroll events individually based on "mouse focus"
I don't actually need for the form... Since all the form is covered by controls.. But I need individually for different controls. Which are just buttons, labels and a chart control.
Looked up a number of pages on KeyDown, and KeyPress events, and am just more confused than when I started. I am trying to get an event to fire adding value to a total when a user presses the Enter key. Not getting any compiler errors, and have tried utilizina MSDN's suggestions for IsInput, and PreviewKeydown. None are working..... I have tried working in the KeyDown using e.keyCode = Keys.Enter, and KeyPress using e.keyChar.Equals(Keys.Enter) in my conditionals.
Protected Overrides Function IsInputKey(ByVal keyData As System.Windows.Forms.Keys)
i have a datagridview in which i want to know which row is selected by mousedown or keydown.. so in both case i want to use only ONE subroutine which can give e.rowindex , e.colindex value of datagridview...
Example..
Private Sub xyz (s as sender, e as keydownaurguments, m as mousedownaurguments) handles keydown, mousedown '\\ code end sub
I have an application similar to calculator, with button from 0 to 9, Enter and Clear. I made it possible to use the buttons by clicking on them and also by using numpad, like shown below: Private Sub Form1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown
I would like to know the vReasons why vb.net 2005 is not recognizing changes when there are no errors. It does not capitalze and tab a new entry. When I try to debug it just goes to the previous debug not the current one.
I am trying to use the keydown/keyup events with buttons in the same project and it not working properly. I have 4 red boxes and when I press an arrow key the box should change to green according to which arrow key it corrosponds to. I have this part working fine, however only when there is nothing else in the project. When I add in say 3 buttons, Button1, Button2, Button3 and try runing the program instead of the correct red box changing to green, button outline just moves between buttons 1,2 and 3. I have tried turning tabstop off for the three buttons but that didnt work. how to read the keydown/keyup while still having buttions that can be pressed with a mouse?
I have been working in Visual Studio which has DevExpress. My project now doesn't recognize DevExpress so I now have 102 errors on lines like:[code]...
In addition to this when I try to go to the designer for my DevExpress report it can't load the designer :
"The designer could not be shown for this file because none of the classes within it can be designed. The designer inspected the following classes in the file: rptAll --- The base class 'Object' could not be loaded. Ensure the assembly has been referenced and that all projects have been built."
Yet when I look in my toolbox the DevExpress tools (XRLine, XRLabel...) are still shown and DevExpress is still located in my reference folder.
I use the 'TransparencyKey' feature on my form to make a 'Panel' control transparent so i can see a program thats running underneath my form. If i try and do a screen grab (Capture a picture) of my form it only grabs a image of the background of my desktop and the program below and not my form.
If i use the normal Windows 'PrtScrn' key to grab a still image it manages to capture my form and underlying programs fine. This appears to be a limitation of transparencykey because as soon as you disable/remove it the screen grab works fine on the form. how to resolve this problem as removing the 'TransparencyKey' feature is not a option as i require this for my program
see the attached image for a better description of the problem
Image on 'Left' shows the transparent window viewing the desktop and program beneath. Image on the right shows the captured image and it completely missing the form and transparent window from the shot.
I've recently been learning vb.net, coming from a background in java and c. I'm pretty comfortable adding buttons and things like that to my form, and then using those click events to call functions in other classes.
However, the way I have been testing my code is to add a button to my form and then have the click event initiate the first function call (basically I have this button acting like a java main() method.
I have recently been wondering if there is a more efficient way of testing out my code that is similar to how it is done in java or c. By this I mean, is there a way to skip all of the form stuff and just have a sub procedure or function that is similar to a main method in java?
I've seen several answers that have mentioned how to add get a main sub to work in vb.net, but they required changing some of the properties of the project. I'm looking for something I can just code and hit run without having to disable the application framework.
Since I'm still relatively new to vb.net, I am also wondering if this is they wrong way to go about it? If I was being asked to create some code in an interview or something, would I need to worry about launching everything, or would they just want to see me implement the class as a standalone file?
I want load event to be activated whenever coming from Main page to Inputpage and activate event when coming from output page to input page. But what i am getting is that only for the first time load is activated and for all other only activate is called.
I have various input textboxes on my form. And based on entries made in each of the input textboxes, I update the display textbox. However, using AppendText message of textbox. I have my input textboxes set to accept only numeric values. So for each character inputted correctly, I update the display Textbox. Problem I have is when user selects Key.Back or Key.Delete, what I would like to do is do a Delete of last character in the display textbox, but I am yet to get this right. How do I delete the last character in the string that is contained in a TextBox using AppendText()
but once i click save on the MDI parent it doesn't recognize the second form as a child unless i open it from the mdi form itself. Is there any way to fix this?
I have a textbox on a tabcontrol page, and when someone tabs out of the textbox, it is suppose to move to the next tab. This was working great before I switched the form from a UserControl to an actual Form. This change did not change actual code. So now, I have tried everything. I have the textbox to set to AcceptTab = True, and I have KeyPreview = False (because if the form grabs the event before the textbox does, it would mess things up I am assuming). Here is my code for the textbox:
Private Sub txtMsgDTG_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As KeyEventArgs) Handles txtMsgDTG.KeyDown 'check for tabbed out If e.KeyCode = Keys.Tab Then[code]......
I need to detect shift + arrow key in blank form. But it's not working. I also tried overriding IsInputKey method but it only detects single key press (like arrow key) but when multiple key are pressed it simply doesn't work.
Private Sub Form1_KeyDown(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles MyBase.KeyDown If e.Control Then MessageBox.Show("aaaa") End If End Sub
As you can see, my form will check for when the control key is pressed down. But it doesn't work. Why?
I want to know how to do a keydown at form level. If I am not using Form Level the right way, this is what I mean. In my Form there is nothing.I want it so when the user presses a key that it will msgbox() something. As I said, there is nothing on the form what so ever No ComboBox, Button, nothing.
I am having trouble using keydown for the spacebar in a form.I would like the spacebar to start/stop a StopWatch that I have running. I can get that to work fine but whenever I am focused on another button it also executes that buttons function also.I know that is the default behavior for the enter key and spacebar but I would like to override that.
I'm developing a website in visual studio 2008 using (asp.net/vb)I have to allow registered users to build pages and add controls that are already defined by the same userMy problem is how to build this page dynamically? In other words, I'd like to make like any CMS (e.g. Joomla). CMSs allow us to make new pages and add our controls then save them..
