IDE :: Add Multiple Events To A Subroutine's "handles" Parameter?

May 22, 2010

If I want to make a sub that triggers when button A or B are pressed, the sub will look like the following:

Private Sub btnA_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnA.Click, btnB.Click

While this isn't a problem when a couple of buttons are concerned, it becomes quite a chore when you have to type the names of 35 buttons to add to a single sub. Is there a faster way of doing it, perhaps by selecting multiple names/controls somehow?

KeyDown And Mousedown In Conjunction ?

Im currently writing a program to control a Velleman k8055 usb interface, i started by assigning keyDown and Keysup to control outputs. this worked fine, now ive added buttons to control the same outputs with MouseDown and Mouseup. however when i start to debug, the mouseup and mousedown works fine, but not the keys? is there a special code to use them with one another.

Heres some of the codes for each..

Private Sub Button1_KeyUp(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Button1.KeyUp
If e.KeyCode = Keys.I Then

Event Handles - Handling Multiple Events In A Sub

Dec 3, 2010

I had a question about handling multiple events in a sub, like this:

Private Sub Form1_MouseUpOrDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles Me.MouseUp, Me.MouseDown

'do something

End Sub

Once the sub is called, is there any way to tell which event called it? (Whether it was a MouseDown or a MouseUp event?) Right now, I am doing a work-around as follows... having each event call the same sub and pass the info in. But it would be nice to not have that overhead.

Private Sub Form1_MouseDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles Me.MouseDown
ExecuteMouseUpOrDown(EventTypes.MouseDown, sender, e)
End Sub

MouseDown And Effect Based On Location Of Mousedown?

Jun 22, 2011

how to view and populate a listview with a text file. Now I come seeking wisdom on how do create an effect based upon the location where a mousedown event occured.

Here is my example. (I like to give simple examples because it helps me learn rather than be given the answer and learn nothing).

I am working in vb.net, in a windows form. I have a map of Western Europe called picturebox1.

I want another form to pop up when a user clicks on a section of picturebox1. For example: I want a "Germany" form to pop up when the user clicks on Germany. And such for if France, Spain, Italy, Austria, England, Scotland, etc...based on the location of the mousedown event.

Historically, when working with a picturebox with sections that were rectangle, I would do little screenshots and overlay them over the picturebox and use that as a cheat.

The challenge here is that the countries are polygons and now I need to learn this for real. I am looking for a little direction on where to go to learn about a mousedown event that causes an effect based upon the location of the mousedown event.

This can be a challenge because each country is of different x, y location coordinates so I image I need to create an elaborate if or case statement to capture and evalute. However, I don't know how to acquire the coordinates of a mousedown.

KeyDown And KeyPress Events Not Responding

Mar 7, 2009

In the application I'm working on I use F1 and also a right mouse click to close the application since the graphics display full screen and there's no control in the upper right corner to close with. I use a good number of different keypresses to control things and everything works fine. When I switch away from the form that the applications starts in to a different form I'm not getting any response from either a KeyDown or a KeyPress event. Maybe someone knows what's going on. The ButtonClick and MouseDown events are responding just fine but for some reason the KeyDown and KeyPress events aren't. Below is code for one of the Forms that is unresponsive in this way. IDE :: Using KeyDown And KeyPress Events On The Same TextBox Control

Jun 4, 2009

I have a TextBox which Is allowed only to read certain characters. I use KeyPress event to handle this event. I understand that The KeyPress event does not handle the pressing of the DELETE key on the keyboard. I do not want the user to be able to delete characters in the txtbox by using the DELETE key, I want the user only to be able to use the backspace key. I am writing this code in Visual Basic 2005. The following code appears to work in handling the DELETE key, but I am concerned that I might get bitten by the fact that I am using KeyDown and KeyPress on the same control (txtSource).

private sub txtSource_KeyDown(byval sender as object, byval e as KeyEventArgs) handles txtSource.KeyDown
IF e.KeyData = System.Windows.Forms.Keys.Delete then
e.handled=true
end if
end sub

VS 2008 KeyDown And Mouse Scroll Events?

Sep 26, 2010

I try to catch the keydown event, but arrow keys don't fire this event, although I set KeyPreview = True. Arrow keys neither fire the KeyUp event. Not on the form or on any controls..

What is required to handle:

1. Arrow keydown or keyUp event with individual event handler based on mouse focus/hover (does the control have focus if mouse hovers on it, or it needs to be clicked?)

2. Mouse scroll events individually based on "mouse focus"

I don't actually need for the form... Since all the form is covered by controls.. But I need individually for different controls. Which are just buttons, labels and a chart control.

I have this part working fine, however only when there is nothing else in the project. When I add in say 3 buttons, Button1, Button2, Button3 and try runing the program instead of the correct red box changing to green, button outline just moves between buttons 1,2 and 3.
