Controls On Inherited Usercontrol Are Invisible?

Jun 26, 2010

am trying to make use of inheritance to keep consistency in my user control appearance. I created a usercontrol to use as my base design, as a platform to link to a tab as acontainer. To this I added a few framing visual items like a header panel andsome labels.I then created another usercontrol that inherits from my base control, with the intention of adding the necessary items to this derived control to build it into a complete functional usercontrol that I can associate with a tab on my main form. I want to keep the visual appearance consistent across all similar derived controls. Then later if I change the design of the base form, this flows through to the derived controls.

Why To Add WordWrap Property To Inherited UserControl

Jan 23, 2012

In the book I am reading the writer shows code for adding the WordWrap property to a class which inherits System.Windows.Forms.UserControl. But what is the point? There is nowhere to insert strings! Also he shows how to add an event by embedding a Combo in an instance of the class and using its SelectedIndexChanged event to raise the event for the UserControl; again what is the point?

Question Bug In Inherited Controls?

Aug 22, 2009

on the custom inherited control i created, i noticed that when i bind my custom property to a data column, if that data column returns a value other than Null it always return a datarowstate of modified even if there were no changes.to produce this issue, i have below a sample code for a test inherited control

Imports System.Windows.Forms
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class TestControl

[code]....

create a form, add the usual objects necessary for data bindings, (datasource, datatable). make sure the data column bound to this TestControl will return non null values.also create a procedure for position changed to catch the datarowstate like below...

Private Sub PositionChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim rowstate As DataRowState = DataRowState.Unchanged

[code]....

Note that i used Position - 1 so that when you go to the next record, it will show you the rowstate of the previous record.

on your Form_Load add the ff:

AddHandler YourBindingSource.PositionChanged, AddressOf PositionChanged

don't make any changes to the current record before you go to the next record. you will see that the rowstate will still return Modified.

Change Properties Of Inherited Controls At Design Time?

Mar 23, 2009

I am using visual inheritance and was wondering if there is a way to change the properties of inherited controls at design time, preferably in the form designer. If not, then in the designer code. I have my control declared as Public in the base class. I can access it in the child form code, but not in the form designer. Is this just not possible?

VS 2008 Invalidating Inherited Controls When Parent Form Is Resized Or Moved?

Jul 19, 2009

Pretending I have a class that inherits off Control, how would I handle the parent form's Resize and Move events within the control? I have a painting glitch that happens when the form is resized or moved. Right now in the form I just have:

vb.net Private Sub frmMain_ResizeMove(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _ Handles Me.Resize, Me.Move Me.Refresh()End Sub

But this can't be the proper way to do it, considering Refresh() invalidates all children (will be slow and flashing if the form has lots of controls). I want to basically do the above code inside the control.

Edit:This is the glitch after a resize of the parent form:

And this is what the button is supposed to look like:

Also, I experience this issue if something like a message box is dragged over top of it. How can I remedy these issues by forcing a repaint?

Creating A Container Control Out Of A UserControl Can't Access Controls At Runtime?

Oct 16, 2009

I have created a usercontrol that contains two rectangle shapes to create a unique button effect and a rounded-corner rectangle shape serving as a border to provide a look similar to a group box. It also contains two labels, one for use with a Text property of the control and the other to indicate the status of expansion of the control. The control is designed to collapse itself when the "button" is clicked leaving only the "button" visible. Clicking it again toggles this affect. I've dubbed it an ExpansionBar. It is also designed to be a container control so that I can add controls to it and allow these to disappear when the bottom portion collapses. The problem is that the controls contained in this usercontrol cannot be accessed during runtime. In other words, I can add a checkbox to it and it will disappear correctly when the control collapses, but I can't select the checkbox to check it... same thing with any other controls, you can see, but can't touch. I'm a novice developer, so I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

User Conrol Mouse Events From Controls Added To The Usercontrol?

Dec 7, 2009

I am trying to make a small control that has a picturebox and a few labels that can be dragged on the form it is placed on. The control was easy, and I can drag it fine when the mouse is down on the control, where there are no other controls, like not over the picturebox or labels.

When i try to click and drag the user-control and the mouse is on the picture box or labels of the control the mouse down event is not detected. I am hoping someone can tell me how to pass the mouse-down event from the controls on the user-control so the form I place it on detects the mouse down even no matter where on the control i click.

.net - RaiseEvent From A UserControl That's Placed On A UserControl That's On A Form?

This container called Dashboard contains numerous other controls depending on their permissions. I need to raise events that are contained on these controls through the Dashboard control and over to the Windows Form.

How can I bubble up the event? I'm using VB.NET for this project, but can convert C# into VB.NET.Also, to complicate matters, the main Windows Form is a VB6 project. So, I'm using the InteropFormsToolkit to accomplish this.

Setting Usercontrol Properties Within A Usercontrol
