Jun 21, 2010I'm just learning VB with the 2008 express edition.I'm trying to create a program that uses 3 list boxes.The first contains a list of products.After a search is preformed the second list box displays the products found.This is pretty simple, basic array stuff.My problem is moving items from the second list box into a third list box to purchase the product.I think I need to change the index numbers of the stuff I move into list box 3 because when I preform calculations with the stuff in list box 3, it seems to answer like its using the index numbers in list box1.So, how do you change the index numbers when you change list boxes?

Mar 10, 2011I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition - Visual Basic.I'm very new to VB but I would like to create a program / splash screen that displays a list of files (Word, Excel, Project) that are located on a CD. I'm not sure how to start other than starting out creating a new project.
Here is how I would like the program to work. The user inserts a CD-rom (containing the program and a folder with all the files) the program automatically starts up when the CD is inserted and it displays a list of all the files on the CD. The user can click any of the files to start the program that created it. Example, if we have an Excel file called "Work Schedule", the user could click it and it would open in Excel.
After I've created the project and have a form, I'm not sure what tools I need to use to display the list of files.I'm not sure how I set up the connection (path) between the program and the folder containing all files, especially as they will all eventually be located on the same CD.

Feb 7, 2011I am currently trying to create a program to list a large group of numbers for me. My final goal is to have every 2, 3, 4, ..., and 9 digit number containing only "1" "2" and "3". I thought I would go about this by using the following VB.NET program and then copying it into a text editor, and using find & replace to eliminate all other numbers.

it fails due to the massive amount of processing that needs to take place. However, adding the intervals requires a great deal of time for each number to be displayed without any crashes.
Is there some way (in VB.NEt or another language) to get the number list I want in a short (an hour or less) amount of time?

Oct 24, 2011I am trying to create a program which will allow users to select multiple files from a list and then burn them all to a playable DVD. It would be wonderful if i could setup a custom menu programatically as well. I have seen some documentation on Imapi 2.0 but i have not been able to find too much suppoert for it. I have also found a few SDK's out there but most are over $1000 which just isnt in the budget.
1) Is there a library included in windows 7 that will allow me to do this.
2) Is there an inexpensive or open source sdk with good documentation out there to do this with

Oct 26, 2011This is probably a really basic question - but I have a list of items (custom objects) being passed from one winform (.net 3.5) to another. I want to create a local list to store changes that only get persisted if the user clicks save. Currently if the user clicks cancel - the changes are still applied in the first form because I assume the objects are reference type.I have the save working as it calls a service layer to do the save and then refreshes the other form - but not the cancel.

Feb 13, 2009I want to create a program that checks the characters of the string "George123" . If a number is found in the string then a message box will pop up. Here is where the problem lies. I created a for loop that inspects each character of the string George123 and when it reaches the number 123 the message box pops up. The only problem with the message box is that it appears 3 times as there are three numbers in the string. So my question is how do i exit a for loop right after the first number is found in the string.

Cast/convert From List(Of DataRow) To List(Of String)?
May 22, 2012I'm trying to solve a problem regarding types of list. First of all I have a stored procedure in my DB which does a select of a single column and I try to proceed it in my app in VB. By making a method function I declared a DataTable that loads through the SqlCommand(with the CloseConnection behavior). After that I publicly declared a List(Of String) which needs to be populated with the rows/items from the stored procedure that is on the way. Below is my snippet of the code:

It's LPrefix = collection.Cast(Of String)() where I get an exception error telling me that I can't really convert it. The old fashion way is to iterate with for/for each loop but that's not what I want for best use of performance especially if the list will have thousands of rows from a single column. So basically, I want to insert those items from that DataTable to the List(Of String) without For/For Each loop.
Running on VisualStudio2010 Ultimate, .NET FrameWork 4.0.
