Find Duplicates Within An Array List Of Random Numbers?
Feb 22, 2012I'm creating an application that creates a list of 20 ramdomly selected numbers within an array and displaying those numbers in a listbox. I then need to display the duplicate numbers in an adjacent listbox by clicking the find duplicates button. How would I be able to access those 20 numbers in order to find the duplicates?

Mar 25, 2012I am trying to find duplicates in a string. The code works more than I would. The purpose is to create a jagged array with values and positions like this one:
myString = "1123464263948465475965069068547363532627281901"
jagged= {{{1},{0,1,42,45}},{{2},{2,7,36,38,40}},{{3},{3,9,31,33,35}},{{4},{4,6,11,13,16,29}},.........}
Value Positions
1 0,1,42,45
2 2,7,36,38,40
3 3,9,31,33,35
4 4,6,11,13,16,29 ......... and so on with unique keys and multiple or not values.
My code do this, but looping all over the string there a moment when it repeats values and positions, because already found them earlier. How do I make to keep just the UNIQUES? How do I skip the loop when the value is already in?

VS 2008 Searching List(of String) For Duplicates?
Jun 28, 2010Okay so i have a very large list of string (500 000 strings) i want to check the number of duplicate strings and maybe even isolate the duplicate strings if i can.
i cant find a fast method to do so :S
i tried using a string array (slower than list) takes ~15mins
i tried using list with the code below takes ~10 mins
that wont cut it :S i need something faster.

Jul 27, 2010I have to check duplicate records in ArrayList. In ArrayList each item should have atleast 2 times before insert new Item. Per example
Example 1:
AL(0) = '1'
AL(1) = '1'
AL(2) = '2'

Method has to return = 'false', because '2' has 1 time in the list. So I dont
want insert '3' in ArrayList and return false.

Jun 7, 2010I've got some code that creates a list of AD groups that the user is a member of, with the intention of saying 'if user is a member of GroupX then allow admin access, if not allow basic access'.
I was using a StringCollection to store this list of Groups, and intended to use the Contains method to test for membership of my admin group, but the problem is that this method only compares the full string - but my AD groups values are formatted as cn=GroupX, etc....
I want to be easily able to determine if a particular substring (i.e. 'GroupX') appears in the list of groups. I could always iterate through the groups check each for a substring representing my AD group name, but I'm more interested in finding out if there is a 'better' way.
Clearly there are a number of repositories for the list of Groups, and it appears that Generics (List(Of String)) are more commonly preferred (which I may well implement anyway) but there is no in-built means of checking for a substring using this method either.
I've settled on using a List(Of), and I've borrowed from Dan's code to iterate through the list.
String Searching - Find Records That Does Not Have This List Of Strings In
Jun 12, 2011I have a problem finding strings that do not exist in a column in a database. I am going to use linq but its more the 'way' of doing I am concerned with.
I have strings like;
MEAL
GPST
EXLEG
EXLG ...etc
I need to find records that does not have this list of strings in, so for example DBML BUT sometimes I can have the string MEALDBML, or more concatenated. So this is a known string of MEAL and unknown string of DBML. I would then want to see that record. I do not know the unknown strings up front, so its a case of feeding in the strings I know are ok, and finding one that are outside that list. I was also thinking of regex?

May 20, 2012I'm having issues with finding something in list, and removing the item, ignoring the case of characters in string.
The code goes:

Dim pattern As String = "AbC"
Dim array() As String
array = {"ABC", "abc"}
listItems.AddRange(array)
Here I'd like to remove all items from listItems, that are abc, no matter what case single characters of item are, including mixed case items. So in this example, every items should be removed
listItems.Remove(listItems.Find(Function(r) r = pattern))
If I change pattern to match the case of item, then item #2 gets removed:
pattern = "abc"
listItems.Remove(listItems.Find(Function(r) r = pattern))
How can I find item in listItems, ignoring the case characters in pattern?

Adding Items To List Results In Duplicates?

The problem is that when I loop through the resulting FundSourceList all it shows is the last value. For example, if I have three fund sources (state, federal, athletic), then when I use this code to loop through all I get listed is athletic, athletic, athletic.

So I change the code to this. I moved the creation of the fs variable inside the loop.

This works fine but now I'm creating a new class over and over again. It seems a little inefficient to me. Can I not create the class outside the loop and use it over and over again?

Oct 11, 2011I have a list of objects, each with 2 relevant properties: "ID" and "Name". Lets call the list "lstOutcomes".I need to check the list for duplicates (meaning object1.ID = object2.ID, etc.) and set a flag (valid = false, or something) if there is at least one duplicate. Also, it would be nice to send a message to the user mentioning the "Name" of the object, when it fails.I am sure I will need to use the Group By operator to do this, but I am not used to doing that in LINQ, and the examples out there are just not helping me. This article seems to be close to what i need, but not quite and it's in C#.

Aug 21, 2009I have for-next loop that loops 6 times around before exiting. Each time it loops it adds a small number and a space to a string so I end up with a string containing 6 numbers separated by spaces. Whats ends up happening is I get "555 555 666 666 777 777" when I should get "444 555 666 777 888 999". I know for sure it isn't the code that generates or applies the numbers because when you put a messagebox.show at the end of the loop it works perfectly, so it seems to me something is happening to quickly but showing the message box every loop gives it time to catch up. What can I do here?
