View 2 RepliesOk I know this question has been asked to death but I still have not seen a good answer. I have created an application in VS2010 using VB.NET. In my application I have an error log that is an XML file located in the Public gstLocalErrorLogLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "ErrorLog"that gets written to in the event of an error so I can trouble shoot application easier. My application also downloads files from our FTP site and puts the files in Public gstLocalDownloadLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "download"So I have files that get read and written to as well and created and deleted all in the Application.StartupPath which is either "c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" or "c:Program Files (x86)(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" depending on 32bit or 64bit Windows 7.
After creating the setup I install it on my test machine that have both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.Everything in the application works great till I have to write to, delete or creat a file in those directories above. I know it is an access issue and the UAC. This will get installed on numerous systems so the options I have seen to change file or folder permission on the computers manually is not an option.What has to happen is after I install the application it just works like when you install it on XP. Some post have suggested that you us a user with administrator privilages or group which is all fine and dandy but the user I have used to test the application has all of that.
So what I am asking is how do you create an application with VS2010 in VB.NET that after creating a setup package and installing on Windows 7 will just work with out "Access to the path c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File) is denied." If I have to install this on 100 Windows 7 computers it has to be a concreate no manually doing anything just install and work like when we installed on XP.
I am looking for a VB code to upload a file to FTP Server. what I mean is after the user clicks on the Upload button, I need to show the progressBar to the user showing the status of the file being uploaded and show also the time remaining. It is for a windows form.

View 2 RepliesAre DLL files created by creating a Class file in VB ? If not, what are their purpose ? If I were to create a class that held the functions I needed for my program to function, would the class file compile with the assembly as a DLL ? Do I have it all wrong ?

View 1 RepliesI was able to get some code working to create a dummy file to fill the remaining space of a flash drive. However, I have added a progress bar and can't figure out why it's not working. I declare a variable for the current value, min, & max properities of the progressbar and then increment it by 1 during each step of my FOR loop. However, I never see anything on the progress bar.
Dim CurVal As Integer
Dim RandomNumber As Byte
'Create the dummyfile to take up the remaining space on the drive

View 13 RepliesI have a pretty large project built in vb.net under VS 2008. This project is heavy using SQL.
There is one part of the project, that I need to make a smaller project. So I am taking 6 forms out of 23 and adding them into this new project. Instead of adding the data set, I built a new one. With a different name. But it's connect to the same database.
First of all, is this a good way to make a sub-project, or is there a better way.
Secondly, I am running into a problem where my table adapters are not members of dataset. I get this error in the design code. I know it's not a good idea to manually change this code.
create a COM dll in Visual Basic. [URL]I now want to use this dll in a C++ project. I used OLE/COM Viewer to create an .idl file as is described in the second half this tutorial.[URL]I compiled the .idl with the midl compiler and included the .h file that was created in my c++ project.Here is my Visual Basic Code
<ComClass(MyComClass.ClassId, MyComClass.InterfaceId, MyComClass.EventsId)> _
Public Class MyComClass
#Region "COM GUIDs"

I receive the following errors when I compile my c++ project

error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol IID_MyComClass
I've been assigned to start a new Logging Project from zero in VB.NET.The final exit of the main project is information organized in paragraphs like this:
[code]...
Every paragraph correspond to a database connection. Every connection is made with an entire diferent database.i need my logging project to save everything the user does, so the logging exit would be like the system exit but with exceptions and other important information like this: Paragraph's title 1 Paragraph's content 1.Paragraph's title 2 User wasn't able to see this information because an exception ocurred: System.WhateverException:couldn't connect to WCF.as you can see the exit is the same but i need to create a detail log because the information is delicate and the DBA needs to now wich user did what and what was the response of the system. Also i need it to be and independant project so i can re-use it in another projects. Seeing the final exit of both the main project and the logging project, what would you recommend me to use for logging in .NET?
i'm currently working on building a program that will take a MS Access database system produced by my company and create a VB.Net project with all the forms in it (obviously the code should be manually done, but to save time the forms and controls can be produced automatically).I have tried Googling and seem not to be able to find anything about this (which probably means I wasn't searching with the right keywords), I was wondering whether anyone knows any good resources on how to create the VB.Net project programmatically as I already know how to do all the access stuff.
View 1 RepliesI am building an error log in a VB project. Is there a way to extract: 1) the name of the sub that a sub routine fails on? 2) what line of code a sub routine fails on? 3) what other items can I extract that are meaningful?

I am working on a project that has some events already created and working. One of these events is called SelectedIndexChanged Event. I am using it for one of my Subs in my frmNewInspection Class, and I am trying to use it for a second Sub and it says that "Event SelectedIndexChanged Cannot Be Found".
The event is created here in a class called LabelComoBox
Private Sub tctlInspection_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles tctlInspection.SelectedIndexChanged
'MsgBox("Index: " & tctlInspection.SelectedIndex.ToString)

So, I fired up my old laptop while my current app was running and tried to start a new project.
As soon as the form comes up, I see this instead of the normal windows form.
Code:

at Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey.GetValueNames()
at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Design.WindowPaneProviderService.AppendWindowPanes(RegistryKey parentKey, ArrayList windowPanes)

Given the following code and link to SkyDrive VS2010 project, how would I create this vb.net project and access it in my c# application?
//the following c# project reference to function in vb.net is not working
string retval = ConvertUTF8_toASCII.UTF8_toASCII(stirngToConvert);
Is there any performance hit (or other problem) to creating a lot of class and structure types for a project? I'm not talking about the number of objects existing in-memory during runtime; rather just defining a lot of object types during design time. I find myself making a lot of small classes and structures that are little more than simply packaging a few related variables together.
View 4 RepliesIt seems that in C#, a solution can contain multiple projects, which, I guess, would compile into separate but somehow related programs. It seems that this functionality is missing in VB, even though VB uses solution files as well.How would someone go about creating a tool or utility or "helper app" for a project? For example, a command line version of the program, which is a separate executable, but obviously would be distributed as part of the main program? Maybe I want to integrate a feature into windows where the user can right click on a certain file and choose "convert" from the context menu, where "convert" would open the helper app, which would read the file and save an updated copy of the file (converting from one file format to another and saving the result) without the user needing to wait for the main program to load, wait for the interface to be configured, then wait for the file conversion. The helper app would not need to display an interface to the user - just convert and save the file.

1. Running the application in Administrator mode
2. Setting UAC to low.
3. Re-installing MS Project in German 64 bit Win 7.
I'm creating an Addin, specifically to MS Project 2007. This Addin create a toolbar with a button that will allow user to export his project to excel sheet in MS Excel 2003 or 2007. My problem is create workbook with worksheet. I already made toolbar and added the button. My button can open Excel Application but i can't add workbook and worksheet.

I have started learning a bit about programming. "Create a new project, and add two text boxes and a button to the form. Write code that, when a button is clicked, places the text in the first text box into the second text box. Hint: Use the Text property of the TextBox controls." Now I am trying to look at it logically do I put the same text in both textbox properties and write code that says if it is visible in one it cant be in the other or declare the text in the code, either way I am a bit stumped, but feel if a stick with it it will click and i will be writing my own code in no time.

View 3 RepliesI'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum or has already been asked, but I'm having a problem creating what should be a relatively simple code for an Excel Project. Essentially, the code is supposed to check if a certain column has Y in it and then copy that entire row onto another sheet and then move on to check the rest of the original sheet. This version of the code seems to do everything but actually populate the cells with the information. Every other attempt I've made has ended with "Application-Based or Object Based Errors". I've worked on this code for a few days now and I just can't seem to get it right. What am I doing wrong?
Here's the code:
Sub PopulateNewSheet()
i = 2
Do While Worksheets("Main List").Cells(i, 2).Value <> 0
