I'm using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. What I have is an Access database that will have several tables. What I want to do is connect to the database, enter the name of a table in a text box and query that table. The code that I have now is: [Code] I'm not sure how to modify this code so that tablename = whatever I type in the text box.
View 5 RepliesI created an executable file of an application done in VB Express 2010 which connects to a Access 2010 database. When installling the executable file at one of the user's computer, the file is installed correctly, but it fail's when trying to connect to the database. It says that Microsoft Dataengine cannot open the database. The user's computer doesn't have Access installed, does it need to be installed? or can I install a framework or application to avoid installing Access at the user's computer?
View 8 RepliesI wrote a program in VB2005. It is a program that is supposed to run in a client computer accessing an MS Access .mdb file stored in the server. The program itself is stored and run in the clients computer. I am not good in networking at all. The way I do it now is:
1. Have a directory made in the server to hold the MS Access .mdb file, and have the directory to be shared.
2. Have the same directory accessed and mapped in the client computer (say to Z:)
3. Then have the program in the client computer simply access the database as if it is in the same computer (as the directory already mapped into the client computer). In the VB 2005, this is done when we set the connection string of the database connection.
However, my user is complaining that by doing so, the database is basically exposed to the operator of the client computer (through the mapped directory), hence more vunerable for any bad intentions from persons who may have access to the client computer but not the server. He insists that he used to have a program that does exactly the same thing like my program, but the database is shielded in the server, where it cannot be seen in the client computer (I have other people who confirm that this can be done, though they can't tell me how, since they are not programmers themselves). Now, I have no idea on how to connect a database that way, and I don't even know where to start looking.

It looks to me as though I nearly have to re-create the controls and rewrite some of the code to make it so the programs still work after the move. At least with ODBC all I would change was the DSN definitions external to the programs. Is there an easy way to move or rename a database without loads of work?

I used DAO and could check if the network table existed using a function that tried to assign a TableDef object to the table in question. Recently working in vb 2010 express. I'm using service-based database which is based on SQL Server. This database will be deployed at the server. Is it possible that multiple vb.net programs, which are installed in remote computers or client computers in the same network, connect to this database simultaneously? Does the service-based database support multiple connections?

I am using VB code behind in Visual Studio 2008 to process data but can't figure out SQLConnection problems. I copied and pasted the connectionstring for my database from the explorer properties window but when I paste it inside the parenthesis of SqlConnection() it gives me an error. Also if I name a variable " dim myconnect As New SqlConnection" in does not give me all of the methods or attributes that are associated with it. Is this a Express Edition limitation or do I need to make some specific declarations to get it to work. this is what I have so far

I am trying to connect to a database in VB 2008 express the book I am using is for an older model of VB. The book says to go to view and click on server explorer, and then a database wizard should open. VB 2008 express doesn't have a server explorer under the view section. I know what code I need to enter into to the two buttons I have I just do not know how to open the wizard.

someone gave me a link to changing the database connection using an instance. When I tried to type what the instance of my SQL server 2008 I must have put the wrong information into the database connection instance.
