I'm using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. What I have is an Access database that will have several tables. What I want to do is connect to the database, enter the name of a table in a text box and query that table. The code that I have now is: [Code] I'm not sure how to modify this code so that tablename = whatever I type in the text box.
Using VB 2008 Express /Using SQL Server Express/Database name is "StopData"/Computer name is "LAPTOP"?Here's what I have.
Code: Imports System.Data.SqlClient Public Class frmMain Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
I created an executable file of an application done in VB Express 2010 which connects to a Access 2010 database. When installling the executable file at one of the user's computer, the file is installed correctly, but it fail's when trying to connect to the database. It says that Microsoft Dataengine cannot open the database. The user's computer doesn't have Access installed, does it need to be installed? or can I install a framework or application to avoid installing Access at the user's computer?
I wrote a program in VB2005. It is a program that is supposed to run in a client computer accessing an MS Access .mdb file stored in the server. The program itself is stored and run in the clients computer. I am not good in networking at all. The way I do it now is:
1. Have a directory made in the server to hold the MS Access .mdb file, and have the directory to be shared.
2. Have the same directory accessed and mapped in the client computer (say to Z:)
3. Then have the program in the client computer simply access the database as if it is in the same computer (as the directory already mapped into the client computer). In the VB 2005, this is done when we set the connection string of the database connection.
However, my user is complaining that by doing so, the database is basically exposed to the operator of the client computer (through the mapped directory), hence more vunerable for any bad intentions from persons who may have access to the client computer but not the server. He insists that he used to have a program that does exactly the same thing like my program, but the database is shielded in the server, where it cannot be seen in the client computer (I have other people who confirm that this can be done, though they can't tell me how, since they are not programmers themselves). Now, I have no idea on how to connect a database that way, and I don't even know where to start looking.
i am semester 2 in the "system information", as usual just like in semester 1, this hardcore lecturer just has some way to make us difficult he is giving us a one semester long assignment, and as you probably can see.i got mysql as my database to making a hotel system application.
1.now i am stuck with how to connect "crystal report" with mysql database table??
I'm new to VB, trying to learn how to connect to sql server. When running the code below I got this message from visual studio: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
I build the query (FillGesamtumsatz) witch belongs to my last thread "Calculate the total sum of each datarow in DataRepeater" with the Configuration-Assistent for TableAdapter in GesamtumsatzData1.xsd.Now, I don't not realy know how to connect the query with the GesamtumsatzBindingSource.
I downloaded the free Visual Basic Express Edition to create an application that connects to a Mysql database. I searched for the connection string and found a bunch of different ones.I have no idea which one should I use with Visual Basic Express Edition. I have been using PHP, javascript and mysql for a couple of years, but I have never used Visual Basic and have everything to learn.
I want to move my programs and the database to another computer and hard-disks. It looks to me as though I nearly have to re-create the controls and rewrite some of the code to make it so the programs still work after the move. At least with ODBC all I would change was the DSN definitions external to the programs. Is there an easy way to move or rename a database without loads of work?
I am trying to copy a table from a network database to a local database. I used DAO and could check if the network table existed using a function that tried to assign a TableDef object to the table in question. If there was no error then I assumed that the table existed and the function returned true...Or it would error out and return false.I could then proceed with the copy or not as the case may be.I am converting the code to ADO.net and need to know how to check for a table. [code]
I'm working on a tool that allows the user to connect to his SQL database and edit some of the database values.First here's a screenshot of the GUI (you can see my problem as well):
Recently working in vb 2010 express. I'm using service-based database which is based on SQL Server. This database will be deployed at the server. Is it possible that multiple vb.net programs, which are installed in remote computers or client computers in the same network, connect to this database simultaneously? Does the service-based database support multiple connections?
Im building an app to manage PSP contents, and it should connect to my MySQL server on my domain to refresh game info and ratings and so on, but I cant make it connect with MySQL Connector 6.1.
I am using VB code behind in Visual Studio 2008 to process data but can't figure out SQLConnection problems. I copied and pasted the connectionstring for my database from the explorer properties window but when I paste it inside the parenthesis of SqlConnection() it gives me an error. Also if I name a variable " dim myconnect As New SqlConnection" in does not give me all of the methods or attributes that are associated with it. Is this a Express Edition limitation or do I need to make some specific declarations to get it to work. this is what I have so far
Dim connectString As String Dim myconnect As New SqlConnection()
[code]....
myconnect. If I try to put open() at the end of this it says its not a member of SqlConnection. I have a dataset but no way to insert into the database
I am trying to connect to a database in VB 2008 express the book I am using is for an older model of VB. The book says to go to view and click on server explorer, and then a database wizard should open. VB 2008 express doesn't have a server explorer under the view section. I know what code I need to enter into to the two buttons I have I just do not know how to open the wizard.

I'm a little new to Visual Studio, and want to learn how to connect VB 2008 or VB 2010 to a SQL database. Are there any books or online lessons that teach how to connect Visual Studio to a database?
I have a database setup on my localhost hosting [C:xampp] and I want the mysql server from that to connect to the my one on Visual Basic 08, wait no - the other way round. I want Visual Basic 08 to connect to my database which is hosted locally via my computer.
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed...
someone gave me a link to changing the database connection using an instance. When I tried to type what the instance of my SQL server 2008 I must have put the wrong information into the database connection instance.
What is the database connection instance called for SQL server 2008?
