After I have retrieved my data from my access database, I would like to insert text into one of the columns in a new row. Is this possible? Here's a snipit of my code I use to retrieve the data from access:

It's the rtotal_time value that I need to insert into a new row, in and cell, the datagrid.
What I am trying to do basically is open an access query in a datagrid view and then be able to make changes to the datagrid and then save it back to the database.When I try to save:

It says that update is not a member of the tableadapter... Why is that?
i have a Checkedlistbox in a windows form, and have defined 5 values in it.Also the form holds a datagrid in it. i have manually defined 2 columns in it.Now i would like to populate datagrid with some data according to the check list values selection. When any selection was done in the checkedlistbox, some data need to added to the gird.in case if i am ticking further selection, i need the datagrid to be inserted with additional values with the prior populated data.

I have taken up a task where end user should be able to enter information via vb interface into microsoft Access database. This then will be displayed onto the Datagrid via VB interface. The program needs to be setup in a way that first entry by end user will flash upon 3 hours.
Example:

Values defined within database shows in this datagrid.The Datagrid works fine and I can insert values into the database fine as well however, I am not sure how to setup a timer so that when 3 hours are up the first entry into the database(shown on datagrid) starts flashing.This is needed so that the end user gets an alert when the time is up so that he can take the trays out of the oven.
In Summary: Can we really setup a timmer so that a value in the datagrid will flash at a particular time.Below is the image of an application. Here you can see the data on the datagrid however I want it to flash after 3 hours. So the first entry will flash after 3 hours following the 2nd entry.
I am using Visual Basic 2008, and SQL Server 2005. I have a single-user client-server app (i know that sounds stupid, but its for future expandibility and also the fact that documentation was easier to find for SQL server than Access files).The app is basically a medicals records system.
In one of the tables, called 'visits', it stores the dates on which each patient visits the doctor, among other things like symptoms and diagnosis. Another table stores all the patient names and IDs along with other details, and a relation has been set up between the patient ID in the patients table and the visits table. So i dragged the visits table from within the patients table (to get only the visits for that particular patient), and dragged it onto the form to make a datagridview. However, the datagridview didn't seem to recognise MS SQL server's smalldatetime format, and tried representing it as a picture. When i changed the format of the column to text boxes, it gave me a type mismatch error (Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'VisitDate' of DateTime and the DataColumn 'VisitDate' of Byte[].) That means, for some reason, it is trying to convert the smalldatetime data to byte before it shows it, which is leading to the error. How do i fix this?
Also, I remember seeing some option for using completely custom column types in the datagridview, but i cant seem to find it now. The options in 'Edit Columns' are very limited, but i would like to set it to a masked text box, or something with a fixed format. Can someone recommend a good column type for representing dates, and how to make the datagridview show that kinda column?

Using Access I created a few Data Access Pages. These web pages, once opened, work fine to manipulate data as intended, but they keep generating annoying warning messages.There are two messages that pop up every time the web page is accessed. Before the page opens the first message that pops up states: "This website uses a data provider that may be unsafe. If you trust the website, click OK, otherwise click cancel."After pressing OK on the first, the second message pops up and states:"This website is using your identity to access a data source. If you trust the website, click OK, otherwise click cancel."After pressing OK on both messages the page functionality works just fine.I've tried adding password protection to the database and even signing the project with a digital certificate, but I still get the warning messages. This would be fine except there are multiple end users for the access pages and I am trying to avoid the additional confusion this will create, especially since IT has restricted many of the users from editing the internet options.

This has made development really easy since I could use ADO to access and query the data.
The application I am now developing will be installed on a computer that does not have any of the MS office applications and I do not want to install SQL Express on the computer. I need to make a VBScript that can take out all data from one table in mssql and update one table in Access. The tables exist in both databases and looks the same, but there can be more data in the table from MSSQL Server so i need to update the table in Access with this data.
E.g. I have a table called: SMP_Alert in both database's. So i want to do something like this (dunno if that is possiable):

I am quite green to VB .NET and it start occuring to me that I am doing things probably in a very ineffective way.Anyway here is the problem I have datasets, consisting of integers there is set 1 which is of format ID, ID2 - ID here is unique but different ID can refer to same ID2. Before I start reading in the data I have unknown number of these entries (ID and ID2 can be at least as high as 99999999)
Then I have a second data set of format ID2 here is the same as in the set 1 and it can contain several PID entries (all integers). In this set the ID2 is unique and again for one ID2 there can be unknown amount of these PIDs, same PID can occur more than once.

But Since most use Excel for data-entry, i've created two tables in access linked to excel source file. Any change in excel will reflect in Access database and subsequently in my Application . Until now my application only reads the database and displays records in DataGridView. These records, i then export to excel along with other formatting for direct printing as a report as I have no idea how to make report. Now i want to add data-entry capability to my app using password-protection user-access. So i can directly add new record to source file. Also need to know if There's any way of eliminating Access from the picture entirely....

Form1.vb When it loads I want to be populated from TypeOfRecipeComboBox from the access table.That would be on the order of French, Italian, German, Ect.When I click on the type of recipe it should populate the combo box with the RecipeNameComboBox click on the recipe name and it will show that recipe in IngredientsTextBox and in PreparationTextBox.

I try to run the update command it always throws the exception "Cannot find table 0" or "Update unable to find TableMapping['Table'] or DataTable 'Table'." I tried declaring the connection the same way as the code above and then simply calling the da.update(ds) but it wouldn't do anything.
I'm having some trouble trying to export a datatable to Access. I've built an Access DB and Table identical to the datatable that I'm trying to export using ADOX.Now using and OLEDB connection I'm trying to populate that table. The following code works just fine in another app written in 2005 but not in 2008 for some reason.
Basically I'm bringing in the empty Access table into a dataset.Filling that table with the rows from the export datatable.Then running the dataadapter's update method to send the data to Access.The problem is the da_a.Update doesn't seem to work. No errors, the Access table just isn't being populated. I checked my before and after counts. I know that the datatable is being populated. It's just not landing in Access.

how to retrieve image from access database?.. I've just finish retrieving data to the datagrid view. I want to retrieve also the image (also stored in the database as path inside the table where the data stored) in the picturebox. When i clicked the specific data in datagrid view, it will show preferred image to picturebox.

Not too complicated, but a simple 2 table related db. On the form the parent table shows customer details with the child table related and displayed by datagrid. I have a field in the child table for images and I have figured out how to store and retrieve images to the db. I am using the datagrid.rowheadermouseclick event to reload the picturebox on the main form as I click down the child table datagrid. Now I need to be able to click the bindingnavigator, go to the next record and have the program reload the image for the next child record. The problem is I'm trying to use an event from either the datagrid or bindingnavigator to reload the picturebox in the child table after moving to the next record, but all of the events I am trying are firing before the next record is moved to and therefor the logic I'm using to retrieve the image from the db is not working.
Anyone with an idea on how to move to the next record and then run my logic to populate the picturebox? What events might I use that fire after the next record has been populated? I know this is probably not that hard, but I have been racking my brain all day now.

View 1 RepliesI have a form with a datarepeater that contains various controls (i.e. datetimepickers, text boxes, combobox) that are populated via a binding source. I also have other controls on the form that are not part of the data repeater. I would like to force validating all controls after the data is populated. I have successfully forced validating the non-datarepeater controls using Me.ValidateChildren() at the end of my load event. However, it does not fire the validating events for the controls within the data repeater. I have unsuccessfully tried many different attempts to set and move focus within the datarepeater controls trying to get the validating events kicked off. I am not sure where would be the best place (e.g. in drawItem? in ItemCloned?) to place the code and what it should be exactly.
Here was my latest attempt:

I successfully handled the validating events in the data repeater caused by user input errors. However, I have the unusual situation that the data coming into my form is already bad for some of the controls. The purpose of the form is to validate the data coming in to it and from user-input. I am newbie with vb.net.
In my program i have a listbox populated with data from a sequential text file. [code] Mary, Murphy, 16, 893782, Douglas etc.From here the user selects the person they wish to see displayed in the datagrid with all all other relevant details from the text file displaying. Problem is I cannot figure out how to refer to the selected person and then get it displaying on its own in the datagrid. [code]

I have a problem with my datagrid(I am noob sorry if its simple). The datagrid is binded to a data table. What i want do is when a product is added or an existing one changed then make that one the selected row in the datagrid. The SelectionMode of the DataGrid is set for the whole row.

Now as you can see from my code i don't understand how the index can be wrong as the datagrid is binded to a datatable and the indexes would be the same, and i have the current row in the datatable and look for the index in the datatable and stored it as a Integer!
i need help with stream writer, i can get it read lines and stuff like that but now i need Streamwriter to write to a colour.txt file (already populated with data) and insert a line that isn't already in the file, into alph order eg combobox reads and displays list from txt file.
their is a colour thats isn't in the text file, so i would like it to take the colour from the combobox that was typed in by the user and place it into the colour.txt file in alphabetical order (these are car colours so their are 100's and 1000's per manufacturer, its not as basic as i want red blue black lol) i was able to find loads of data about streamreader but not so much about stream writer
