Access The Information In A Populated Listview
Mar 16, 2010I need access to the information in a populated listview so that I can load some textboxes with the contents of the selected row.

View 2 RepliesI'm having a problem with loading my MS Access Database. I can get it to load but it won't load in a row. My friend told me to try this but it puts all the information in a column instead of putting all the information spread out accross the row.
Here's my code:
Dim lb_Connection As New OleDb.OleDbConnection
lb_Connection.ConnectionString = "PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE = pass_database.mdb"
Dim lb_SelectCommand As New OleDb.OleDbCommand
[Code] .....
Also I'll attach an image of what the program does when I load it.
I have a list view populated by a database. The columns for each record are First, Last and EMPID. When I look at the list view on the form at runtime, I can see some/all of the First name and then below that may be part of the Last and some ... periods and no EMPID. When I hover over the record, I can see the EMPID. Is there a way to have all of the information in the record visible in the list view?

VB 2010
Access 2000
Access is the data source
RecipeRevDataSet
tblRecipes
Form1.vb When it loads I want to be populated from TypeOfRecipeComboBox from the access table.That would be on the order of French, Italian, German, Ect.When I click on the type of recipe it should populate the combo box with the RecipeNameComboBox click on the recipe name and it will show that recipe in IngredientsTextBox and in PreparationTextBox.
I would like to keep it as simple as can be, I'm just starting with VB.I also looked in the code area here and didn't see much I understood.I do have the form built and the data source done.
See our Posting Guidelines for our policy on archived threads.I am confused as to where to place the following code snippet in my code. I put the function above my load event and the same exception still occurs:

I'm having some trouble trying to export a datatable to Access. I've built an Access DB and Table identical to the datatable that I'm trying to export using ADOX.Now using and OLEDB connection I'm trying to populate that table. The following code works just fine in another app written in 2005 but not in 2008 for some reason.
Basically I'm bringing in the empty Access table into a dataset.Filling that table with the rows from the export datatable.Then running the dataadapter's update method to send the data to Access.The problem is the da_a.Update doesn't seem to work. No errors, the Access table just isn't being populated. I checked my before and after counts. I know that the datatable is being populated. It's just not landing in Access.
Dim conn_a As New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & strFullFileName)
conn_a.Open()
'Select Access Table into new Dataset[code]....
After I have retrieved my data from my access database, I would like to insert text into one of the columns in a new row. Is this possible? Here's a snipit of my code I use to retrieve the data from access:
If con.State = ConnectionState.Closed Then con.Open()
sdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()
rtime = Now()
[Code]....
It's the rtotal_time value that I need to insert into a new row, in and cell, the datagrid.
I have 3 forms, one frmMain - main form, second is frmUserType- childform, and the last frmCreateUserType. In the main form I have a menu item to open my frmUserType, In this form I have a button to open another form which is my frmCreateUserType, In this form I have a button to add records then update the listview in frmUserType. The problem is the listview will not access with my add button control in frmCreateUserType. I tried not to used mdiparent declaration for my frmMain and frmUserType as children and it works, so meaning that the problem is showing my frmUserType as childform?I am using vb.net 2008
Code to open my second form (frmUserType)

I have a vb-2008 program that contains a (listview) control.
View = details
AllowColumnReorder = true
Lets say the table has 3 columns (a,b,c) and 1 row of data.
a b c
1 2 3
I want the user to be able to re-arrange the columns (by dragging the column headers) before printing the contents of the table.
c a b
3 1 2
Statements like:
.. ListViewX.Columns(2).Text
.. ListViewX.Columns.Item(2).Text
.. ListViewX.Items(0).SubItems(2).ToString
Give the column-name (c) and cell-contents (3) of the origional table .. not the (3rd) column (b) of the re-arranged table.
How can i get the column-name and cell-contents of the (3rd) column of the re-arranged table?
I have a relatively simple Listview that suddenly needs (due to new requirements) to have it's 'layout' extracted to a DataTable so that a common routine can convert it to an Excel spreadsheet for export purposes.The ItemTemplate is just a series of Table Rows with some text, data-bound labels and textboxes with validators in the cells.Usually, when trying to pull out a particular value (like what was entered into a text box), I use the ListViewItem's .FindControl method.
For Each objItem As ListViewItem In lvwOptions.Items
Dim objTextHrsLabor As TextBox = CType(objItem.FindControl("txtHrsOptByLabor"), TextBox)
decHours = CDec(objTextHrsLabor.Text)
Next
In this case, however, I'm trying to take all the data displayed - all the 'rows and columns' of the table that was created.Inside the ForEach / Next loop of ListViewItems, I started a ForEach/Next loop of Controls for each instance's controls but I got some really strange results returned (like controls that had a couple of table cells in them).
I get the sense I'm headed in the wrong direction. All I want is for the nicely-formatted 5-line, 6 column table to be converted to a 5-line, 6-column data table.
txtMsg.Text = "Message from " & e.MSISDN & " . Message - " & e.TextMessage &ControlChars.CrLfand i want to change it to insert into a listview instead.Eg inserting the e.MSISDN information into a FROM column of the listview.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to add information to a ListView from a BackgroundWorker thread. I thought I could do this in this manner:
vb.net
Private Delegate Sub _ListView(ByVal lvi As ListViewItem)
Public Sub test(ByVal lvi As ListViewItem)
[Code].....
When I attempt to run the "test" sub the BackgroundWorker, I get an error:
Argument not specified for parameter 'lvi' of 'Public Syb test(lvi as System.Windows.Forms.ListViewItem)'.
Is there something I need to specify when declaring the sub, or in the sub itself?
Okay, I've made a local database now and everything is okay. But I don't want the normal data grid view, I want to display the information in a list view. How can I do that? Do I have to make some sql queries or something?
View 8 RepliesI have a fair bit of experience with VB.NET and C# (In this case I chose VB.NET, blame my laziness), but I do most of my professional work using PHP. I have no experience what so ever in using any database with VB.NET let alone MySQL.Just FYI, at the moment I am only trying to Query the database to gather the information required to activate. The Activation wizard and algorithm building (which is finished anyway), and everything else will come soon. I chose the MySQL database because I have experience with it, and it seems the best option for remote usage.The whole idea already works in PHP, I'm just have major issues moving it accross into VB.NET (Using the MySQL Connector.NET);I understand the basics, and all I need to know how to do is Count Rows and gain access to the other information in a row based on provoided information (in PHP, through mysql_ result)
So, here goes nothing, this is the Query code I am using in PHP to complete the job I want to do in VB.NET. [code] As you can see, I basically need to get the PHP code into VB.NET to fit into the 'btnQueryDB.Click' Command in VB.NET. By Equivalent, the Product ID in VB.NET will come from 'txtPID' and similar, Serial Number will come from txtSNUM. Once counted to be 1, the Activation Code and Status will be fed into 2 other text boxes in the form. (acCode, and acStatus).
im trying to make a program that connects to several websites and parses some information out and then add the information to a listview list.The listview have 2 columns: Site and Nuts. So i load a bunch with urls in the site columns (that isnt a problem) but the problem is to take 5 websites at the same time and connect to them and then write "OK" in the Nuts columns.
In VB6 i could easily make 5 sockets, and then move down five items in the listview, save each of the listview text to a variable and connect to each variable with different socket, but how i add the information to the column "Nuts" is also a challenge in vb6. In the other hand, in vb.net i haven't yet got the skills to do so.
I have been working on this for days and cannot figure out whats going on. I have a listview that displays information from a database. The program takes care of the rest. It's a reminder program that shows the next month due,days remaining, months remaining, and name. I have the program where I want it and it work great, but I want to add a bi-weekly to it.
Here's code well some of it.
Private Sub loadbills()
Me.openstate()
Dim i As Integer
lstView.Items.Clear()
[CODE]...
My listview clears and updates every 2seconds. Is there an easy to refresh the list information without clearing first? Like taskmanager
View 2 RepliesI have a listview with multiple columns that I need to fill out of information gathered from user inputs in various textboxes I use to have a code for Windows Forms Application as below

This works fine.However,when I shifted to WPF and tried to reproduce EXACT same code,it tells me Too many arguments to 'Public Sub New()' Alternatively,
Basically I have about 15 data that I want to display in different columns per row in a listview.I need it in such a way I can sort, edit, delete, insert,etc.With my previous methods, I could do those fine, but in wpf im stuffed...
im using listview not sql or other cr..p (Plain)I would like to get a guide to help me with all features of listview im new in dat area?But the most important thing is i want to know how can i load a file into a listview which has columns and each column has its information
Example - < Columns
Website Name
Website Location
Website Description
[code]....
so how can export it and load it ?and how can one add records and remove if using tht type of manner?
I'm pretty new to visual basic .net (have been a hobby VB6 developer for a few years) but now i have moved on to vb.net and i must just say it, what a difference in the language!So im trying to make a program that connects to several websites and parses some information out and then add the information to a listview list. The listview have 2 columns: Site and Nuts. So i load a bunch with urls in the site columns (that isnt a problem) but the problem is to take 5 websites at the same time and connect to them and then write "OK" in the Nuts columns.
View 1 RepliesI'm working on a Parental control
I have 3 questions:
1) How to detect a starting process -
Solved here
2) How to capture a copy of the process and look in all controls from all forms to see if the Text/Items property has offensive keywords
3) If yes, how to close them immediately. - myProcess.kill

In my program, I need to be able to access font file information like what the font's title is called, the styles it contains, etc. I am already able to access the font's file name and path and use that, but I need the other information too.
I've used a recursive file search of the fonts folder (which is how i got the paths and filenames), as well as using Dim oneFontFamily As FontFamily, neither of which seem to have what I need.
I have been working on a small side project that will read in from a serial port and send off a email depending on what it receives. At the moment I am stuck with a problem of it telling me it cannot access the text box as it was created on another thread. Does anyone know what I can do with this error? I have tried using invoke statements but it does not seam to work. [code]...
View 2 RepliesI want to be able to get the table structure / design / column information from an access database. I have created a post in the Database/Access section with no luck, here, but I am wondering if I could achieve this through vb (2008 express edition) rather than the access sql query itself. My overall goal is to compare one DB structure with another, an integrity check if you will.

Am using MS Access as my back end and I am having a table called "Dept" with 2 columns (dename & cname). In Vb.Net when I click a command button, all the data's of the first column should be displayed in ListBox1 and the Second column in ListBox2. I do not know how to proceed
View 1 Replieshow come the picture I have a ComboBox that has the names of customers. How do I get when I click the button "OK" appears on the client data: "Name, Mail and Telephone" in TextBoxes?
View 2 RepliesWhy couldn't I access some propery of the first listview and send it to the second? I've tried lots of different properties but none work. What about the ItemPlaceHolder or just User_Category? My thought is to to this with two ObjectDataSoureces and send the DataKeyName from the parent listview to the second ObjectDataSource. But I don't know how to get the DataKeyName (see the ???? below)
<asp:ListView ID="ListView1" runat="server"
DataSourceID="srcGetOrderForm"
DataKeyNames=User_Category

How can I access the current user information via LDAP and VB.Net 2.0*? I found a vbscript that works, but I'd rather have it done in .net
Dim objSysInfo = CreateObject("ADSystemInfo")
Dim strUser = objSysInfo.UserName 'returns current user account
Dim objUser = GetObject("LDAP://" & strUser) 'queries active directory for user account
I'm using the framework 2.0 because it is for more likely in my XP/Vista/7 World to have 2.0 installed than 3.5 or 4.0
