DB/Reporting ::VB 2008 And Libre Office Base
Sep 20, 2011
I'm considering switching office systems and now use ACCESS 2000 for my database of choice. I'm
retired and write programs in Visual Basic to keep busy.Does anyone know if a Libre database is
practical as a substitute for Access?

i am working on my first database program. i believe that I am almost finished, except that i have a remove button like i would like to remove just a single selected row both from the datagridview and the actual database. this is just in case any information is entered wrong, and also to delete all the entries i put in just for testing purposes. the only problem im having is in updating the database after removing the row from the datagridview
Private Sub btnDelete_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles RButton1.Click
If Not DataGridView1.CurrentRow.IsNewRow Then

We have currently upgraded our development machines to Windows 7 and Office 2007. We have a vb 2008 app that references 2003 Office components to use for mail-merging to word.We loaded up our app in the vb environment today and were instantly greeted with missing components/functions which are related to the 2003 Office components. We can update these to use the Office 2007 components/functions instead, however we are unsure whether after doing this our vb app will work with machines only with Office 2003 on. can machines with Office 2003 on work with our vb app that references Office 2007 components?

I am getting following error when I am trying to use Convert.FromBase64String "The input is not a valid Base-64 string as it contains a non-base 64 character, more than two padding characters, or a non-white space character among the padding characters."
Dim payloadBytes = Convert.FromBase64String(payloadBase64)
Basically when my facebook registration form [URL]mphone field has a dash in it and encoded string is posted to other page and I am trying to decode it there which creates this error. Basically I am trying to extract data from Facebook Signed Request.

Trying to implement some sort of commit/rollback functionality in my base objects. I have it working with some help from google. However, I have a question My Base Class has a BeginEdit as shown below -
[Code]...
Now, what I'm confused about is if I create another class, Class1, that inherits the base class. I add some properties such as Name, Age, Location, etc. to Class1.When I do Class1.BeginEdit, wouldn't "Me.memberwiseclone" make a copy of Class1, then CType try to cast it from Class1 to the BaseObject class? How does that work if Class1 has additional properties like the Name, Age..blah blah? Where do those gets stored in the Base class? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the concept...

I am trying to familiarise my self with connecting to SQL and manipulating data and I seem to have fallen at the first hurdle I am trying to programmtically connect to a database and fill a data grid with a dataset.
The problem seems to be with the data provider my code is:
Dim strConnection As String = "Data Source=GARY-LAPTOPSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=OriginalFileLocations;Integrated Security=True;Provider=SQLOLEDB"
Dim cnnOriginalFileLo As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection

I'm working on a simple base form in which all the other forms in the project will inherit. This base form only adds 5 properties (at the moment) dealing with painting a gradient background. The problem I'm facing right now is when I change a property on Form1 (the test form) and click run it doesn't show that change. I also checked the .designer.vb file and when I make a change it's not added to the code behind file, I'm at a loss right now to why

Public Class PrimalClass
Public Event SomeEvent()

Public Class BaseClass

this code compiles and runs.what I want to do, is remove the event SomeEvent in BaseClass so that DerivedClass won't be able to register a handler to it.

I am at the stage of planning the application which will conect to a Ms SQl database, and process some data to Excel files. The problem is, that i would like to make a base pure application, without any functionality, and then add functionalities by adding some external files with code to program folder.I`not sure if what i just wrote is clear. To simplify:I would like to have an application which connects to a database, but let`s say when after 1 year, i will be in need of some more functionality, i woun`t have to change the code of whole application, but can just add a new file, and when I run the application there will be one more function to be chosen from the list.

I'm struggling here.. I know I can disable the warning manually. However I'm not sure if this would be the right way to go about this.
Here's my interface..vbnet Public Interface IPopulatingClassBase Property Identity() As Int64 ReadOnly Property Dirty() As Boolean Sub Populate_Class(ByVal RecordID As Int64) Sub Save_Class() Sub Reset_Class()End Interface
[Code]...
PS In my example think of it as classes that populate with data from a database. The parent class would be an organization, and the derived class a location. Both populate and have similar functionality. The only difference is locations are an entity of an organization(the data record for a location constraints it to an organization) upon loading location data I also populate the organization class. This is a real example of what my project does.. so having said I just want to know how I can get around this warning, and if not would it have any consequences if I left it as-is.

i was wondering if someone could give me the final explanation on what i might be doing wrong here.I spent a lot of time reading around the net and the forum about how to add Threading capabilities to a VB project.
Nos, i've got .NET 4 installed, and i've added the system.tsr and mscorlib.dll files as reference in, say, Excel 2007 (see screenshot). However, when i try to make a thread with anything as basic as "Dim Thread1 As System.Threading.Thread", i get a user-defined type not found error.Indeed, when i use the object browser to see what's in the System file, theres nothing remotely linked to any Threading, and in the mscorlib file, nothing under "Threading" either, just a few Thread related functions, but nothing defining a data type

I've developed shared addin for Microsoft Word. I distribute this addin with my application and using Inno setup for installation. The Inno setup installs my application and then runs "myAddin.msi" file in order to install addin.
how to uninstall this addin programatically?
Right now, in order to uninstall addin, the user has to to it manually through control panel.

I've made Add-in for Word 2007 in VS2005.It worked well with Word 2007 and now it works well with Word 2010 32 bit. However it doesn't work with Word 2010 64 bit. The installation is successful, but the ribbon button doesn't show up.
Do you have any experience with add-ins for Office 64 bit?

I'm calling the following method from a button click event to export a datatable to excel. After the export is completed, the excel application object is quit, released and assigned to nothing. But in reality it's not getting released and stays active unless the entire application is closed. So every time the button is clicked for export, a new excel application object keeps on running. The problem doesn't occur if two of the lines from the method below are not used. But I can't omit them as they are really needed. Check the * marked lines.
Code:
''' <summary>
''' Exports data from a datatable to excel.
''' </summary>

In it's simplest form, I have two forms a master form and a detail form. I added the data source from within the ide.
Data> add new data source database>new connection > microsoft sql server database file. Selected table etc.
From the datasources tab in the ide I dragged the grid view onto the master form. dragged the detail view onto the details form.Independently both forms work fine, However if I load the master form first and then load the detail form when the master dgv is clicked the problems start.
[code]...
All variables are correctly declared and the details form works fine, the correct record comes up and can be added, edited and deleted.I then save the form by clicking on the save icon and close the form but changes made to the details form (e.g. additions or deletions) are NOT reflected on the master form until I close and rerun the application. guess it's just a matter of refreshing the right control(s) on the master form but I cant seem to find it.

This form is an MDIchild and another form in the same child collection loads its TreeView data with no problem. Here's my code, MajorCategories(), MiddleCategories(), MinorCategories() are all arrays of Structures filled in an outside subroutine.
Private Sub CategoryMaintenance_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

I have used VB.NET and Microsoft Offices Interop to create an application that will run on a server and will print files for different users. My problem is that I need to find a way to impersonate different users so that when MS Word opens and prints, the resulting print job is recorded under that user. I found this link that lets you run .net code as a different user - unfortunately it doesn't work with this code. The username recorded is still the user that is logged on the server.Code Removed by moderator. Any ideas how I can make the Office app I'm automating run under a different user to the .net program that is calling it?

I would like to create Shared add-in that works with Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. I've found nice article that provides step by step instruction for creating shared add-in for Word: [URL] I've followed instructions and it worked. However, I am looking for a way to create one add-in that works with Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point, not only Word. I didn't find any reference on the WEB.
