I am at the stage of planning the application which will conect to a Ms SQl database, and process some data to Excel files. The problem is, that i would like to make a base pure application, without any functionality, and then add functionalities by adding some external files with code to program folder.I`not sure if what i just wrote is clear. To simplify:I would like to have an application which connects to a database, but let`s say when after 1 year, i will be in need of some more functionality, i woun`t have to change the code of whole application, but can just add a new file, and when I run the application there will be one more function to be chosen from the list.
I have written multiple programs in the past that deal with cad data. Points, lines, arcs, etc. For each program I ended up creating slightly different versions of some really base classes like a class that defines a point:
<Serializable()> Public Class Point Public x As Double = 0 Public y As Double = 0 Public z As Double = 0 End Class
My question is how would I use that class in such a way that it could be in a namespace and imported into any future project that I write?
I am looking for a VB.net book that strings me through the entire development process of an application (Prefered: WPF ,LINQ ,ADO). I have read a few books on OOP and VB.net with small code samples demonstrating the specific idea of the chapter.I think it would be really helpful if there was a book that programmed an entire application that uses a sql database (Northwind , Adventureworks).
I am working on a VB6 project and my organization is planning to upgrade the technology from VB6 to VB.net. As I am new to VB.net windows application development, I dont know where to start and what to include in code. I have read that VB.net windows applications code should have AssemblyInfo, CultureInfo, Windows Security authentication etc. But I have still not found any article, code sample or VB.net windows application sample that could give me a complete list of features that an organization level VB.net windows application must have.
I have been asked to develop a small application for a friend. The current app is in Excel format but he would like it converting to a downloadable piece of software.I have been looking for well designed applications and found: url...Are there any good resources about learning to design/ develop a similar interface? Or good software design inspiration sites?I am typically a PHP web developer with VB experience but thought i'd give it a go.
how to run a Windows application within the VB.NET development environment. How can I 'build' or save my VB.net application, so I and others can run this application without runing the Visudal Studio?
I have to develop a new application in windows. in which i have to develop following thing but i am not getting how to develop it.I have to develop following are the two points:1)To show the http addresses that are visit by other computers on the wireless network.
My developer has lost access to the source code of a program that I have asked him to develop. However I have the folder containing files such as
[Code]...

I'm developing a game and I'm there a lot of things that change after a few minutes, so I created a New Game button where I use Application.Restart() to clean everything and get a new fresh game, but the problem is that this exits the game and starts a new one. What I want to do is to restart a game, but without the players noticing that the game exits. How do I do this?
I have an issue with Visual Studio's support for coloring User Types in VB.NET, I'm an C# developer that have been forced to code in Vb.NET by political rules in my organization, and I really misses the support for coloring user types in Vb.NET, I had hoped that this would be solved in Visual Studio 2010 and well in the beta they have added Vb.NET User Type coloring, but the coloring is the same for all user types I cant't have one color for interfaces and one for classes and so on.

I want to design a application which can support two different types of databases same time e.g; when we install, it will ask which db it has to support and based on initial selection it should work with any db without changing anything in the application. In short it has to be developed keeping in mind that user may have either MS SQL or MySQL. It should support both.
I am a self taught "developer".I use the term loosely because I only know enough to make myself dangerous. I have no theory background, and I only pick up things to get this little tool to work or make that control do what I want.
That said, I am looking for some reading material that explains some of the theory behind application development especially from a business standpoint. Really I need to understand what all of these terms that float around really talk about. Business Logic Layer, UI abstraction level and all that. Anyone got a reading list that they feel helped them understand this stuff? I know how to code stuff up so that it works. It is not pretty mostly because I don't know the elegant way of doing it, and it is not planned out very well (I also don't know how to plan an application).
I would like to ask how to do a GUI base data binding? without righting any lines of code in terms of adding, editing, deleting or searching records from the database to your application.
I am getting following error when I am trying to use Convert.FromBase64String "The input is not a valid Base-64 string as it contains a non-base 64 character, more than two padding characters, or a non-white space character among the padding characters."
Dim payloadBytes = Convert.FromBase64String(payloadBase64)
Basically when my facebook registration form [URL]mphone field has a dash in it and encoded string is posted to other page and I am trying to decode it there which creates this error. Basically I am trying to extract data from Facebook Signed Request.
VB.Net 2k5 Web Application The base application has a web.config file with an httpModules section:The sub-project compiles to the same bin folder as the base application, but I get this message:

Initially I added an Access database to my project and handled ommunication/manipulation with the Db this way. When I made changes to the Db they did not reflect in the Database in my project so I began manually writing code to get to my Db. The original Db remains in my project, along with all the objects it created (tableAdapters, etc.) only they are not used at all. As I stated, I communicate manually.
Now, almost a year later, I figure there has to be a way to add the Db to a project and it reflect the Db as it evolves. Essentially, I want to use the objects I've created in my Db (Reports, Queries, etc.) in my project. Maybe there are classes/methods/objects available to get to these Access Db objects manually as well? I've searched, but nothing definitive.
I've started to develop a small rpg style game, I've got all the movement of the character and map and the collision detection done but now I'm actually writing the GAME.So I start off with a message displaying saying "hello blah blah blah"My problem is how do I link from that message to the next one, started when the player moves.
Here is all my code, as you can see I start a Next_Event sub but I'm just poking around in the dark if someone could give me some pointers, that would be excellent!
I have been assigned to a project where an existing developer has been working on a web app on VS 2008 storing all files on his local workstation.I need to assist and eventually take over deveolpment of the web app development. My workstation only has VS 2005 but I will be installing VS 2008 in the coming days.
My question is: what is the best way to access all of his work, and make it so that it is acessible to other developers as neccesary.
I'm not a daily programmer so these nuances regarding VBnet drive me crazy. I've written my app with a P4, XP, dotnet 3.5 PC using VB express 2008.Does that mean are not NOT compatable with any machine running dotnet 3.5?
does anyone knows how to develop dlls for crystal reports 2008?My OS is Windows7 x64 but i would like to develop dlls for x64 and x86, i won't mind to compile them separately.
I can quickly knock together soem code to xlate base 10 to/from bae 13, but I just wondered if something very easy already exists in VB.NET (or even somethign generic, with base N, but right now I am only looking at base 13)
Imports System.Data.OleDb Public Class Form2 Dim Conn As OleDbConnection [code]...
