I'm developing a game and I'm there a lot of things that change after a few minutes, so I created a New Game button where I use Application.Restart() to clean everything and get a new fresh game, but the problem is that this exits the game and starts a new one. What I want to do is to restart a game, but without the players noticing that the game exits. How do I do this?

I've started to develop a small rpg style game, I've got all the movement of the character and map and the collision detection done but now I'm actually writing the GAME.So I start off with a message displaying saying "hello blah blah blah"My problem is how do I link from that message to the next one, started when the player moves.

Trying to start a game that involve in a lot of .png and animation. All these .png are already transparent and set to an individual picture box when i overlay one over the other. There "transparency" actually gets the form background color. and not i'm not able to see through the image behind it.
i set the forecolor to transparent in the attribute am i missing something?
*side question... should i make my game in vb.net if it using a lot of images and animations files? (working solo might get my friend to help later)

I have a counter which counts how many times the use has clicked the generate button using the following coding:

How can I reset the counter? Because I need a reset button...

I am at the stage of planning the application which will conect to a Ms SQl database, and process some data to Excel files.The problem is, that i would like to make a base pure application, without any functionality, and then add functionalities by adding some external files with code to program folder.I`not sure if what i just wrote is clear. View 1 RepliesI am a self taught "developer".I use the term loosely because I only know enough to make myself dangerous. I have no theory background, and I only pick up things to get this little tool to work or make that control do what I want.
That said, I am looking for some reading material that explains some of the theory behind application development especially from a business standpoint. Really I need to understand what all of these terms that float around really talk about. Business Logic Layer, UI abstraction level and all that. Anyone got a reading list that they feel helped them understand this stuff? I know how to code stuff up so that it works. It is not pretty mostly because I don't know the elegant way of doing it, and it is not planned out very well (I also don't know how to plan an application).
I got on my form textboxes, checboxes but also a groupbox which holds texboxes.
The idea is to be able to clear and reset all of these by clicking a reset button.

Ok, so I am building my own program to control a video player I have through telnet, I have everything else working except one thing.I have a reset button to reset the player, when I press it, it sends the string "Reset" and the unit resets without a problem.But when I add a code to close the winsock connection upon reset, it doesn't send the string to the unit. I am sure what is happening is the winsock is getting closed at the exact same time it is trying to send the string and so it fails to send, how do I make it close winsock AFTER the string has been sent?
