DateTime - Cannot Assign Properties Value From Database
Jul 27, 2011
I need to have a property that is a nullable date as the datestamp is used for when a process is completed. If there is no date this is a way to determine if the process has occurred. I have created a Nuallable DateTime property (DateTime?) However when I try to assign a value from my database entity (when debugged has a date value) I am not thrown an exception however my property still reads a null value after assignment. How can I get a DateTime? type to accept a DateTime value?
I thought this would do the trick
_object.DateStamp (type = DateTime?) =
_entity.DateStamp (Type = DateTime?, Value = DateTime) o
Or for more understandable syntax
Ctype(object.DateStamp, DateTime?) = Ctype(entity.DateStamp, DateTime?)
Strange thing is I can assign the properties value like this.
Ctype(object.DateStamp, DateTime?) = Now
I am using LinQ Entities.

I have a class named clsBatch that has a public property named prpInsertDateTime. If I hover over DateTime.Now while in debug mode the value is "#10/6/2011 9:41:04 AM#" For some reason when I run the code below clsB.prpInsertDateTime = "#12:00:00 AM#". Why is this happening? In VBA / VB.NET you can assign Excel range values to an array for faster access / manipulation. Is there a way to efficiently assign other cell properties (e.g., top, left, width, height) to an array? I.e., I'd like to do something like: Dim cellTops As Variant : cellTops = Application.ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Top..The code is part of a routine to programmatically check whether an image overlaps cells that are used in a workbook. My current method of iterating over the cells in the UsedRange is slow since it requires repeatedly polling for the top / left / width / height of the cells.I'm going to go ahead an accept Doug's answer as it does indeed work faster than naive iteration. In the end, I found that a non-naive iteration works faster for my purposes of detecting controls that overlap content-filled cells. The steps are basically:
(1) Find the interesting set of rows in the used range by looking at the tops and heights of the first cell in each row (my understanding is that all the cells in the row must have the same top and height, but not left and width)
(2) Iterate over the cells in the interesting rows and perform overlap detection using only the left and right positions of the cells.[code]

When I insert a datetime into a datetime field in a SQL Database I only get for example 22/04/2012 06:31:33 instead of 22/04/2012 18:31:33 no matter how I format the field either in Vb or on date time on pc I only get am times
MyArray(MyClientHandles(f), 4) = Format(Now, "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss")
This is my typical code & have tried many formats the string shows as correct when looked at on breakpoint.

I am using a sql server database and i am storing the time value in the datetime variable. I am developing a booking system application in vb.net. When I want to view already made bookings using datagridview and by implementing dataadapter and dataset it shows the time column with system date which was saved with time when the record was inserted. Now I want to view only time in the Time field when extracting the data....What should i do now??

I have an application in which I have one textbox (in this one I write a date like 23.07.2010 ) and a combobox in which I insert a time from the list of combobox (like 12:30, 14:45, etc). I want that when I press a button to send this datetime value in a column of an sql database. I want to send something like (in VB.NET)
sql=" INSERT INTO table_name (column1, column2, date_time_column) values ( val1, val2, '23.07.2010 12:30') "
execute(sql)
So, I have problems when I want to send date/time into sql tables because of the different Regional Settings.

I have a little problem regarding the use of DBNull, NULL etc. in VB.net in combination with SQL Server 2k.
More specifically, I want to do something along the lines of this:If x = 0 Then
x = DBNull.Value where x is declared by Dim x as Object. I would rather use Double, but I can't assign DBNull.Value to this, and using Object works quite well, too. But every time I hit this condition, I get an exception: A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll This is not a major show-stopper, since the database value I write x to in the next step, is NULL by default - most of the time! So I need the ability to write NULL to it. If that was not the case, I would have been able to work around this by catching exceptions, I think - but sadly, this isn't really of use then.

I am not sure if this should be in the SQL or vb.net section.But, Basically I have a vb.net application from where I insert a datetime field into the SQL Server Database. Now for some reason the SQL server field(which is datetime) will not display AM/PM, I have referred this link where my code looks like this:
Dim dateToDisplay As DateTime = DateTime.Now dsNewRow.Item("date_created") = dateToDisplay.ToString("MM.dd.yyyy hh:mm:ss tt")
I tried stepping into the code by debugging and it seems to be inserting the PM but is not displayed in the table QuotedateToDisplay#8/12/2011 6:01:06 PM#Date

Actually I have datetime value stored in the database. What I am taking from the textbox is a time value. I want to extract those results from the database which are between the given time value....To be more concise, my application is a booking system for a sports club and provides an option to view alreaady made bookings.. Here i offer two options either to view all bookings for a specific game or to filter bookings. In filter bookings one option is to filter through date and time...Date option is running okay but problem lies in time part...I provide two times but unable to view bookings between them...
My code is:
Dim prmtimefrom As New SqlParameter("@booking_time", SqlDbType.DateTime)
prmtimefrom.Value = TextBox3.Text
Dim prmtimeto As New SqlParameter("@booking_tim", SqlDbType.DateTime)
[code]....

I'm trying to match a certain DateTime value with the current system DateTime. I have a timer and a label on a form. Timer interval is set to 1000. When the form loads, the timer starts ticking. As soon as the current DateTime matches the value of the variable, it shows a message in the label. When I'm writing the following code, the values don't match even if the current system DateTime is equal to the variable. Label1 isn't showing 'Times Matched':[code]The default format of 'Now' is the same as I have stored in dtmVar variable. So there's no question of format mismatch. Does that mean 'Now' is not actually a DateTime property? Provided, my O.S. is Windows Vista Ultimate and all date/time settings are set to default.

I want to create a form almost exactly like the database properties page that appears in SQL Server Management Studio when the properties of a SQL CE database is selected. Basically, the form has page options that show general properties in a propertygrid, a shrink and repair page option, and an option to set the password. Does Microsoft have some code posted on how they show the properties page of a sql ce database?

where I have to try organise a number of databases. Some of these I am sure are duplicate databases.I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to interigate the database objects so as to make a comparison between databases (see if they are in fact duplicates.)I would (ideally) like to get a list of all database objects - such as queries, forms, tables,modules etc.. Then look at either the "date modified" or "date created" property so as to see which is the most up to date as well as somparing the contents of the database.I have played with Delphi and dbGo to try see if I can get the info required - but cant seem to get all the properties I need.Here is an example of what I have tried using the "openschema" method such as...
Con2.openschema (siTables, EmptyParam, EmptyParam,DS1);
But afaik - this just returns a list of the objects (in this case tables.)I also tried..
Con2.GetProcedureNames(Listbox1.Items);
But again - theis just returns a list of the database items. I know I have used Delphi here.. But Im sure the principle is the same for VB ?

i have several classes / objects from it in a program that hold data like clsAddress with properties id, city, zipcode, name, and clsMyData that contain id, datafield1, datafield2, datafield3 and many more (just examples) I want to have methods in the objects to load the object from and save the object into a database, like me.loadFromDb and me.SaveToDb Of course i can do creating db tables like tAdress, tMyData, ... and in the methods do select / insert statements like "insert into adresses (city, zipcode, name) values(me.city, me.zipcode, me.name) etc. BUT - what i dont like is a) i need to build this loadfromDB / saveToDB Methods for every class separately and b) whenever i alter a class, i must alter the DB structure and the methods.

Using Visual Studio .NET 2008 or 2005, is there a way to automatically generate properties for each column in an SQL Server database table? I am assuming other code-generation software exists that will do this. I know with Visio I can connect to my database and it will generate diagrams by table, this would be similar to that.

I have a class that represents the table of a db-row. Its properties are the columns of the table. I add a new row to the table with the following code:
Public Sub AddRow(oTestRow As TestRow)
Dim sql As String
With oTestRow
[Code]....
That is just an example, but my classes have around 30-40 properties and this brings a very large and complex sql string. Creating, editing or maintaining these sql strings for many classes could generate errors. I am wondering if any compact way or method exists in order to add the whole object's istance (the properties of course) to the table "TestTable" without writing such a large sql string. I created the TestRow in the way that its properties are exactly the columns of the table "TestTable" (with the same name). But I did not found in the ADO.NET anything that could be used.

I try to compare Datetime.Now with a Datetime variable I set, using the Datetime.CompareTo() method. I use a timer to compare these every second and display the result, but as the current time approaches the time I set, the result changes from 1 to -1, but never 0, which means these two are never equal. I'm suspecting the Datetime structure contains milliseconds?
