When I insert a datetime into a datetime field in a SQL Database I only get for example 22/04/2012 06:31:33 instead of 22/04/2012 18:31:33 no matter how I format the field either in Vb or on date time on pc I only get am times

This is my typical code & have tried many formats the string shows as correct when looked at on breakpoint.
It's been years since I've had to bother you with my silly questions but those had to do with VB 6. First of all, if I download the VS2010 Express edition will it replace all of my VS2008 edition, or will it be a separate entity. Also, the books I'm studying from are all 2008 -- will they still work on 2010?

View 5 RepliesRecently, I've changed my job to a biological company, they have huge data but managed by Excel, only by Excel. For example, they have hundreds of orders every month, but they just simply record them by Excel. No database concept is used in this company. Excel to manage this is nightmare, only one person can write the file, others can only read the file by ReadOnly. And these data is very easy to be mistakenly modified.
So, since I come to the above Excel-managed company about one month ago, I cannot stop myself thinking apply database.But I have no programming background at all, only used VB6.0 to create some tiny program in High School. Now I started to think whether I can use VB2010 to do this.First of all, I turn this problem to Access, and I learned a lot database design theory from getting to know Access. However, I finally find out that Access can hardly freely create Form like VB (maybe I didn't find out how)
Anyway, I started to study VB2010, to add DataSet to my Form1, and use DataGridView to display data, and to use TableAdapter to modify data. However, it is quite hard to learn, without any systematic books. For example, I am confused about TableAdapter and TableManger, and I don't know how to simply display a modified DataTable by DataGridView control. And SQL search language is new to me as well.
So, I'm wondering if anyone could recommend me any books based on what I would like to learn? Or any tips and reviews?
I am writing an app in VB2010. My code parses a text file, assigns data to variables My??, and then attempts to store this data in an access 2010 (actually access 2007 format) table. Yet, whenever my code gets to MyRow.Item("Artist") = MyArtist I get an error 5 'Artist' does not belong to Table MyTable, but the field/column does exist in the table as do all the others.

I am using a sql server database and i am storing the time value in the datetime variable. I am developing a booking system application in vb.net. When I want to view already made bookings using datagridview and by implementing dataadapter and dataset it shows the time column with system date which was saved with time when the record was inserted. Now I want to view only time in the Time field when extracting the data....What should i do now??
View 3 RepliesI need to have a property that is a nullable date as the datestamp is used for when a process is completed. If there is no date this is a way to determine if the process has occurred. I have created a Nuallable DateTime property (DateTime?) However when I try to assign a value from my database entity (when debugged has a date value) I am not thrown an exception however my property still reads a null value after assignment. How can I get a DateTime? type to accept a DateTime value?

Actually I have datetime value stored in the database. What I am taking from the textbox is a time value. I want to extract those results from the database which are between the given time value....To be more concise, my application is a booking system for a sports club and provides an option to view alreaady made bookings.. When the form loads, the timer starts ticking. As soon as the current DateTime matches the value of the variable, it shows a message in the label. Label1 isn't showing 'Times Matched':[code]The default format of 'Now' is the same as I have stored in dtmVar variable. So there's no question of format mismatch. I use a timer to compare these every second and display the result, but as the current time approaches the time I set, the result changes from 1 to -1, but never 0, which means these two are never equal.
