Starting Calculations - Writing A Program That Has 6 Text Boxes
Nov 17, 2009How do I start writing a program that has 6 text boxes. A person would enter a member number if they have one, number of movies rented at $1.80 a piece. A Text box should then display Total Rental Price, and if a member number was entered, a 10% discount is given (the total of the discount shows up in another text box) and after there discount is applied the Amount Due is displayed in yet another Text Box.
My boxes are named:
memberNumberBox
moviesRentedBox
rentalPriceBox = $1.80
totalPriceBox
discountBox
amountDueBox
This is all supposed to happed when the customer clicks on a calculation button named: Button1
This is what I have so far, but I don't even know if this is correct, as I am getting 1 error relating to a name not being declared. Please help and clue me in to where to start!

Sep 19, 2010I'm writing a program for my class, which pretty much is an energy cost calculator. It takes 4 inputs from 4 text boxes and multiplies them, and the result is the cost. Well, now I have to come up with a way to check for empty text boxes and display a prompt to enter a number. I've tried inserting multiple codes to display a prompt and to no avail nothing has worked, I also receive the error "when casting from a number, the value must be a number less than infinity" error.

Feb 16, 2010I've been writing a weight program for flooded pressure vessels and I'm having trouble retrieving the data from the text files I've been saving. I know how to write the data to the text file, but retrieving it with OpenFileDialog is not so easy for me.The user has individual text boxes that they input strings or numbers into and when they save the file, each text box input is written to one line in the text file. For example, the first text box is for the username, therefore the first line of text that is saved is the person's name, the second text box is the customer, thus the second line in the text file is the customer name, and so on.
(Actually, the first line of text in the saved file designates whether English units were used or Metric units because when the user retrieves the saved file, English units will open one form and Metric units will open a separate form, so some If...Then statement will need to occur).I need to be able to read the first line, have either my "EnglishForm"form open or my "MetricForm" form open, and then have each subsequent line of text be displayed in their corresponding text boxes. I know I need to use ReadLine or LineInput, but I don't have a clue what to do.Assuming the syntax I've displayed below would just magically work (if only life were that easy), it would look something like this

Jun 6, 2011I am creating an application which will allow users to search parents names and display their childen respectively in a datagrid.I have created a form with two text boxes, a search button and a datagrid. The two text boxes are txtFName.text and txtLName.Text. On clicking btnSearch I want to be able to run a search to the SQL database for specific records.So far I have been sucessful in doing so with a listbox but I would prefer to have the data populating in a datagrid as it is more cleaner.

The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Display Data Linked By A Data Relation In Different Text Boxes?
Dec 7, 2010I have a data set with a parent child relationship between a patient table and an insurance table. There can be up to 4 insurances for each patient. I want to display them in 4 separate panels of a vb.net form. So if a patient had 2 insurances, then txtName1.text on panel 1 would have the company name of the first insurance, txtName2.text on panel 2 would hold the company name of the second insurance, and so on.
How do I display only the insurances related to the current patient? I've tried moving through the rows of the related table, but that gives me all the rows, not the ones I need. Everything I see on the internet suggest using a datagrid, but that's not an option in this case.

This involves the customer giving the employee information such as name, address, postcode etc and the employee inputting that information into text boxes and combo boxes that are in the application.
What I would like to be able to do is after the customers information is given over the phone, I need to be able to send that information to a database which will probably most likely be done by button click. In this case, I'm using Microsoft Access. I'm also hoping that I can do this within Visual Basic coding.
The database is set out with multiple tables which include a customer table and a ticket table and both have multiple fields such as first name, surname in the customers table. Both of these tables are in use with the information that the customer gives over the phone.
I've already asked on other forums and people are where replying giving me third party programs that I could use to implement this, something I don't really want to do.

The final goal is to use the numbers next to the PU and PD characters to perform specific calculations.
Essentially, I think the code needs to do the following:
1. Read each block of characters ending in a ";"
2. If the block commences with anything other than PU or PD, discard it
3. Extract the numbers in such a way that calculations can be performed. The following is an example:

Essentially, there will be hundreds of these rows and I will need to sum up the deltas so that a specific formula can be applied.
I have tried doing this a number of ways but each seem very inefficient (using text boxes to store/swap data and creating additinal text files are 2 methods I have tried) and so I'm looking for some direction.
