Reading A Specific Line From A Text File And Displaying It In Individual Text Boxes?
Feb 16, 2010I've been writing a weight program for flooded pressure vessels and I'm having trouble retrieving the data from the text files I've been saving. I know how to write the data to the text file, but retrieving it with OpenFileDialog is not so easy for me.The user has individual text boxes that they input strings or numbers into and when they save the file, each text box input is written to one line in the text file. For example, the first text box is for the username, therefore the first line of text that is saved is the person's name, the second text box is the customer, thus the second line in the text file is the customer name, and so on.
(Actually, the first line of text in the saved file designates whether English units were used or Metric units because when the user retrieves the saved file, English units will open one form and Metric units will open a separate form, so some If...Then statement will need to occur).I need to be able to read the first line, have either my "EnglishForm"form open or my "MetricForm" form open, and then have each subsequent line of text be displayed in their corresponding text boxes. I know I need to use ReadLine or LineInput, but I don't have a clue what to do.Assuming the syntax I've displayed below would just magically work (if only life were that easy), it would look something like this

And so on...I read a lot of articles from the MSDN library and exhausted each link that I've looked through from Google and Bing, but most only retrieve data from the file to a single text box through some loop or streamreader and don't take into account multiple forms.

So that when the check box is true, columns 1 and 3 turn different colours, and when false, go to a yellow colour.However, when I "re-insert" my DGV info from my text file, the check boxes come back correctly - as true and false on the right rows - but columns 1 and 3 don't change colour. I've tried a "DataGridView1.Refresh" option but not getting it to work.The DGV is unbound. I need it to recognise which check boxes are true and update automatically when the information is opened from a text file.

Recently I've gotten by by creating separate text file for each line (such as a text file named, "Username", another named "Password", instead of creating a single text file with both the user name and password.) Now I am faced with having to do this. I want a quick and easy way, VB won't let me do open file as input #1 for some reason. I just need the second line of text out of this text file. Here are the basic steps: -Read text file hosted on [URL]..-Check if the version number (eg '1.1') is higher than the number in the 'currentversion' setting or the executable file version (whichever is easier).
-If the text file version number is the same, change form background colour to green, if it is higher, change the background colour to red.

Mar 6, 2010My scenario is this; I'm doing a project on a vet and I have a form for the vaccinations that can be given. Each vaccine is assigned to a checkbox. What I want to do is, when a checkbox is checked, the required vaccine is added to the listbox. Also when numerous checkboxes are checked, I want all of the values to appear in the list box (the list box then gets saved to a database).
The only thing i've managed to do is; when the checkbox is checked it gets added to the list box. But when another one is checked the 2nd value replaces the first, in the list box.

Csv Read - Load The 6 Numbers Into A Set Of 6 Text Boxes
Jul 31, 2009I have a csv file with say 20 lines of 6 numbers. I need to be able to select say line 14 and then load the 6 numbers into a set of 6 text boxes. I can get them into the text boxes once they are loaded into an array, it's getting them into the array I am having difficulty with. I do have the following filter: Text files (*.txt)|*.txt|CSV files (*.csv)|*.csv|Spaced Text files (*.prn)|*.prn|All files (*.*)|*.*"
When I navigate to my test folder that contains a single .txt file, I see that file. When I change the filter to *.cvs that files goes disappears because it has a .txt extension. That is good. But when I select All files *.* it does not re appear? Why and how do I make it appear.
