I want to start a new development thread so I can maintain two versions of a solution. I set up a new directory next to the old and copied the contents of the existing directories into the new. That's all well and good but now I can't update references in the new project to the new directories. I remove a .DLL and when I add it again, it keeps including the .DLL from the old path.
I'm running VS2005 and the solution is made up of 5 or 6 different projects (if that makes a difference.)
I'm creating a simple .NET console application where I want to save a file in a folder that's part of the root project, like so: SolutionName.ProjectNameTestData. I want to put test.xml into the TestData folder. However, when I go to save my XDocument, it saves it to SolutionName.ProjectNameinx86Debug Console est.xml.
I need a method to know iis current wwwroot in VB.Net.
I need to get this information outside a web project (otherwise the problem would have a simple solution). I think I need to read this information from the registry, but I have no idea where to start looking.
I have a directory named reports inside my winform project in .net. My project name is AccountingReports and inside that Directory reports exists. So i need the way to access this path via code. In Asp.net we use Request.PhysicalApplicationPath property. So is there any method or property exists that will give me the root of my project
I am using Environment.CurrentDirectory to get the current directory, i.e. "D:ChuttuProjectsLICinDebug"
But, I want to remove "inDebug"
How can I do that? Or is there any way so that I can get the directory up to "LIC"?
Actually this is my connection string:

But when I use this and try to insert data into the DB, the data is not inserted. When I use the connection string with a physical path it starts working:

I am trying to get the physical path of the mdf file and use it in the connection string.

when you start a new projekt, vs2010 makes a new folder for the projekt. when i reach a certain point in my projekt i want to save that version of the projekt.
what i do is make a new folder and copy that projekt to it. projektfolder2 . when i start the projekt in the new folder the sln doesnt work anymore. the vbproj works then. and vs 2010 makes a new sln file one directory down of the old one between the other projekt files.
I'm trying to include a few text files in my project. These files are read and used to make decisions in the program. Ordinarily, I would just set the file path and open the file via StreamReader, no problem. However, this application now needs to work on other computers and I want to include the text files in the application directory. I've researched two ways to do this:
1) Include the files as resources and reference them via my.resources.
I've gotten this to work ok, except the files are opened as strings upon starting the application. They are fairly large files, which I imagine is taking a lot of unnecessary memory. Also, StreamReader wont work with these files as resources, or at least I can't figure out how to. My application is already based around using StreamReader so I don't really want to change this.
2) Include the files as additional items. I know how to do this too, but I can't reference the files programmatically.
Can I use a resource text file via StreamReader or how would I reference the files if they're included in my project directory?
I am trying to publish a project. Via the publish wizard I have published the project. So I have:Project.applicationSetup.exeand a directory application files in which:Project.applicationProject.exe.deployProject.exe.manifest. When I start the setup it does it's thing (only one question: do you want to install ...etc) and 2 seconds later its done.
Problem: 1. I can't find the installation directory... (I can find the app in the 'add/remove programs' but not anywhere in program files or ..)
2. there are a few xml and mdb files I want to include in de project (or else the project does not work).
But because of (1) I don't know where to do so. Or beter yet, I would like to include these files in the installer.3. Why doesn't the installer ask me where I want to install?
I am trying to access the types file from the project directory for the web root directory. Currently it only accesses it from the C:/, how can I have it access this file from the web root. I would like the file to be in the project folder as types.txt.
I have created a new icon using VB.NET and have saved it to the project directory. I then set the icon property for a form to point to my new icon file. The new icon shows up in the properties window but when the program runs, the title bar displays the default icon that you get when starting a new icon file rather than my new icon.
I'm making a setup project for my application. I have a file, dbconnection.xml, that I want to be installed to C:Program filesmyAppdbconnection.xml regardless of where the user chooses to install the application. I've added the program files 'special folder' and have a subfolder, myApp, under that where I place this xml file.
For whatever reason, no matter where the user installs the application to, the XML file is placed in the install directory, not in c:program filesmyApp.

frmAddUser is a simple form that is opened as a dialog by a command button on the primary form (frmPrimary). Once opened, it's only job is to collect information via textbox and combobox fields. Once submitted, the information is added to the database.
This works, or so I thought. If I open this form, fill it out, and submit the information; the record is created. However, if I turn around and do it all again with different information, another record is created but with the previous information (not the new). It will continue to make records as long as I keep submitted this form but no matter what information I put in, it always uses the original information that was used to create the first record.[code]...
But, the data from the item text of DropDownList1 is copied into both the text and value fields of DropDownList2. Is there anyway to get both the text and the value fields to populate properly?
I have a WPF application which has a listbox bound to an ObservableCollection which retrieves it's data from a Database. I am attempting to have the ListBox data refreshed every minute through the use of a DispatcherTimer.

I'm a bit new to VB.NET and I have a database which I want to connect to an access backend stored on a network drive for multiple users. I can view the Database in the solution explorer and the directory defaults to the project folder. How can I specify the directory to pull from my network drive? VS has copied this datasource and imported it locally which is fine for testing, but i need the file accessible for multiple users. Is this something I do when publishing?
so I have a template in Crystal reports using vb.net, I changed my data source location and that source still contains the needed tables for my report, the problem is this... My original template displays the exact report but when I changed its data source it duplicates the data in the details section(e.g I made a query that will show 1 item only,but instead I get 4).

how to make a form quicker to fill out for my work, and it involves having a employee enter a patient's name in one text box, and then having that information duplicated in all other name text boxes.
I have a windows form that is set up like one big calendar for the month of may.when you click on May 1st...another form (form2) opens up with some combo boxes and a datagridView on it. What I need to do is on Form 1 (my calendar form)when you click on May 2nd...I want to open a duplicate form 2..the one with all the combo boxes on it.do I have to make 30 duplicate forms ( for 31 days of May)or is there an easier way to make sure that when the user clicks on May2...they dont get a form filled with May1 stuff.I can see that there is going to be a problem as it sits now because I am going to be adding to form 2 some kind of date box, or a date field in my gridview..So I need each form to display the right date?

I'm designing an app that resets permissions on folders so I've made a treeview that uses GetDirectories to populate itself with all folders on a user's computer. The TreeView has the "checkboxes" property set to true so the idea is that users select all of the folders from this treeview that they want to reset permissions on and then click go.
So once they click go I need to loop through all nodes in the treeview and all subnodes etc and test to see if they are checked, then if they are I want to add each node to a list and then in the next routine I would loop through the list and reset the permissions.This is what I am doing at the moment but I keep finding that the objects added to my list are duplicated.For example if I select C:Test and C:TestTest2 in my treeview then I end up with my List looking like this:

I have a routine to ftp upload files but I am duplicating effort by uploading even if the file exists. Is there a simple "file exists()" type solution similar to:

I don't want to actually MAKE the pong easter egg, but for anyone with Dreamweaver, try typing 'dreamweaver' into the color selection box to play a round of pong.The bit that I want to know how it works is the bit at the end once you lose.After your loss, it will immediately play a small tune, whether or not your volume is on. In fact, it plays whether or not you have speakers, which makes me think the sound card itself is playing the tune.How can you achieve a similar effect, playing notes without sound or speakers, in vb.net? I would imagine this requires P/Invoke, seeing as there is no obvious way inside the framework.I don't need a whole song, a simple beep or the ability to change frequency of the beep will suffice.
I'm gathering a list of files within a directory and then adding them to a ListView:

The exclusion list works great, but it duplicates each item in the ListView several times. How many depends on how many items that it excludes.
I understand why it's happening, but I can't figure out a way around it. I have to loop through the items in the ArrayList so that I can compare them to the other items.
