I am building an app that has one access database. In that database, there is one table that users will access.
In VB2008, I used the Add A New Data Source selection to add the database and table to the application. I have successfuly bound the table/records/fields to the needed text boxes on a form.
This app will have one table to start. End users can create new tables using the structure of the first.
At design time, only one table was in the db. Now a user adds a new table. I have a module that lets the user choose which table to work with and that name is stored to a global variable.
Once the new table is selected, I want to launch the edit window.
Since the new table [call it table2] did not exist at design time, what is the best way to tell the data binding that I want to use table2?
Remember - the operation of adding a new data binding source using the designer automatically adds hundreds of lines of code in the initialization sections of the code.
I have a reguirement to enable the creation of excel workbooks from sql stored procedure. To do this I want to create a vb class to generate and save the excel files. Then and ASP.net page will enable opening the excel file via the browser or enable the user to download the file. The class should be able to be called from a vareity of pages within the web app and have the ability to handle 8 to 10 separate stored procedures that will return various data sets.
I'm creating a dynamic combo box and adding to a form. I'm trying to fill the combo box with a DataSource from an ArrayList and then selecting an item in the combo box based off a value from a property.Problem is, the combo box items don't get bound until after the Form_Load event has finished and the form is visible. So the combo box is empty when I try to set the selected index of the combo box. See code for what I'm doing in detail, and refer to comments in
[code]...
How to select the right selected index for combo box without a hack (Load timer or something stupid like that)?
I simply cannot understand or see when a DGV's DataSource (a DataTable in my case) get's updated when a new row has been added to the DGV by the user. I have looked at row counts in the DataTable at every possible event and cannot "get" the correct number of rows (which I ultimately need to "get" the GetChanges(DataRowState.Added) of the DataTable. So, here's what I've done.1. The DGV is populated on the FormLoad event. It includes a ComboBoxColumn which has it's own datasource. All fine. Now, let's say initially there is 1 single row in the DGV. There is also and "empty" row at the bottom of the DGV, all cell values are empty.if the user Clicks the ComboBoxCol and chooses an item, then this actually creates a NEW friggin' row, RIGHT?!No. Not exactly. At least NOT in the DataTable (The DGV's datasource).I attempted to "check". Looked at the editingComboBox_SelectionChangeCommitted event:
Private Sub editingComboBox_SelectionChangeCommitted(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _ Handles editingComboBox.SelectionChangeCommitted Dim rct As Integer = ImprovementsEntity.improvementTable.Rows.Count
I have a datagridview with a datatable in a dataset as a datasource. When i add a new row in the datagridview it is automaticaly added to the to the underliyng datatable (its datasource) . However it will only be addad after i click another datagridviewrow. I would like that update to be just after i added the row or after i edit one of its cells and not only after i click a different row.
which is supposed to get all the data from my table and set it as the datasource of a DataGridView. You can see where I put in two msgbox's to view how many columns are in the DGV before and after the "update". The first count gives me 22, which is the correct number. After the .DataSource and .DataMember lines are ran, the count jumps to 41 and I have no clue why. All I want to do is clear a dataset, fill it with the new data and set it as the data source of a datagridview. It appears the info is being saved to the table correctly too.
I have a combobox where the SelectedValue on the combo is bound to a property on a business object.Everything works fine, but the property that's bound to the SelectedValue on the combo only gets updated when the focus leaves the control. I understand that the property doesn't get updated until the control is validated (loses focus), but I need it to update the datasource as soon as the dropdown is closed.I know I could probably leave focus from the control on the DropDownClosed event but I'd prefer something a little less kludgy. What's the best way to immediately update my datasource when the dropdown is closed?
I have a DataGridView to which I've set a list of objects to the DataSource. (I'm in VS 2005 using VB.) I created the DataGridView by creating a Data Source of type AssetIdentifier and dragging that Data Source onto my form. I want to update the DataGridView when the selection in either a combo box or another DataGridView changes. (Below I'm considering a click in another DataGridView.)
The following works: Public Class dlgShowAssets ' class member variable Private assetIdList As List(Of AssetIdentifier) ' pertinent subs and functions Private Sub RefreshAssetIdentifierDataGridView() [Code] .....
In this case, I always knew that assetIdList would have at least one element. I'd update the list, and reset the data source of the DataGridView to that list, and all was well. When I applied this to another situation, for which I couldn't guarantee that the list would have at least one element, things would work fine as long as I had at least one element in the list, but if the list became empty, the DataGridView threw System.IndexOutOfRangeException a number of times.
The rows in the DataGridView would not go away if I went from a non-zero number of elements to zero. I tried a workaround, which was to remove all of the elements, add one "dummy" element, and then re-bind the list to the control and it still didn't work. Also, following all of those exceptions, I'd get other similar exceptions when I hovered over the cells in the DataGridView. Some of the members of AssetIdentifier were "Nothing" but I fixed that in the constructor, and the exceptions still occur.
In a windows forms project, I have several combo boxes. The first combo box contains a list of objects. Those objects then have several lists which are used as the datasource's for the successive combo boxes, depending on which item is chosen in the first.
i have two controls consider two text box, as i enter a value in one text box the other should also be updated with the same. I used handlers but the problem with that is only when i leave the control the other gets updated i need it to be dynamically updated.
I am using Vb 2008 Express Edition. I have a Picture Box (PictureBox1)and a Text Box (tbxL1) on my form. I have my Following code in my Text Box Leave event:
Private Sub tbxL1_Leave(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles tbxL1.Leave L1 = Convert.ToInt32(tbxL1.Text)
I'm creating a dynamic gridview in vb.net using a connected sql database. Everything works fine except 1 thing: when i click the update command, the event just won't fire no matter what I do. the gridview goes into edit mode and the cancel button works fine. This has cost me over 2 days of googling but none of the solutions work. I used breakpoints to check if the code was executed, but it wasn't. If anybody has any experience in this:I believe the problem lies in the addhandler but it doesn't give any errors.I forgot to mention that the sql command was a test and sets the data in that field to 15, now it's 10, it works when i use a normal button or a static gridview.
Public Class WebForm1 Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Dim rowscount As Integer = 2
i have created a dynamic tabpage and a dynamic tablelayoutpanel inside it then added dynamic textboxes and labels inside the tablelayoutpanel...the thing is , i am having a problem on how to access the value of those textboxes and labels and add them as new columns in the new table(tagpage) in mysql database, i can already create the table in the database but i cant add the new columns in it. heres the code for accessing the values of the labels and textboxes
error: NullReferenceException was unhandled....Object variable or With block variable not set.
Basically i have one TabControl with a form and 2 browsers within one form I have ProBlem To call the dynamic browser to navigate with dynamic Textbox.text
I need to represent the following query using LINQ:
DECLARE @PurchasedInventoryItemID Int = 2 DECLARE @PurchasedInventorySectionID Int = 0 DECLARE @PurchasedInventoryItem_PurchasingCategoryID Int = 3 DECLARE @PurchasedInventorySection_PurchasingCategoryID Int = 0
[code]....
Now, I know that a query in .NET doesnt look like this, this is my test in the SQL Design Studio. Naturally VB.NET variables will be used in place of the SQL local variables. My problem is this: All of the conditions after "WHERE" are optional. In that a query might be made that uses one, some, all, or none of the conditions. V.PropertyID and V.Value can also appear any number of times. In VB.NET I can make this query easy enough by simply concatenating strings, and using a loop to append the "V.PropertyID/V.Value" conditions.I can also make a Stored Procedure in MS SQL, which is easy enough. However, I want to accomplish this using LINQ.
Ive managed to dynamically create a form, and dynamically create a timer, but i have not been able to create the timer on the dynamic form. Specifically, i need to be able to have the timer itself create another form with a timer. (I realize that this would create a new form every interval on the timer, that is what i want to do)
1. A way to add the timer to the dynamic form, and maintain the timer sub on my main form.
2. A way to create the whole thing over (dynamic form and timer) through the previous dynamic form and timer.
I was thinking i could use a collection/array to store the forms and timers, but i'm still having trouble figuring out how to add entire forms or timers into a list. (A timer is not considered a control, so i cant use a controlcollection...)
Heres my code;
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim frm As New Form
[Code]....
*EDIT* Btw, my idea was to use i as a variable that increases every time a form is created, then insert the form into the array, with i as the integer. i just need to know how to create a new form with a different name each time. (as with timers)
I have a form that i need to be 100% Dynamic. So it could contain 10 labels maybe 100 who knows.
When you hover over a label there will be a different contextmenustrip to appear for each and every label. So all the contextmenustrips are Dynamic and contain 1 option maybe 2 options even 3 or 4 up to the users settings.
My problem is not creating a handler for when the user clicks on the contextmenustrips options. The problem is knowing which one of the options for that contextmenu was clicked!!
OK, I'm trying to display tooltip text for a dynamic edit box. Well, at least I'm trying to.
On my form, I've got a tool tip control which I've conveniently named ToolTip. My edit box displays OK. But, what I want to do is when the user hovers their mouse over the text box, I want the tool tip to display some text.
I think there are two problems that I'm having. I'm not convinced that I'm properly addressing a dynamic text box name. Ideally, I would want to be able to refer to the text box (but using a dynamic variable that will contain the prefix of the name). To hardcode, I would want to be able to achieve (not in this example but in theory): ABCDEFGt_0300.Text = "hello"
Dim controllerName as string = "ABCDEFG" Dim t_0300 As New TextBox() Me.Controls.Add(t_0300)
I have a gridview in which when I click edit, update, and cancel button comes. I have a variable named status. If status=false then update should change to insert and if status=true then update should be update itself.
We have two update panels on our webpage. Now first update panel is having button cancel. While second update panel is having a file upload control. Now if the user uploads a file that is going to upload in about 2 mins, and in between, say after 30 seconds the user clicks the cancel button, the upload taking place in update panel 2 should stop.
Create a membership database that has fields for title, first name, surname, address, subs renewal date and membership type (active, social, honorary or life). Make an interface that allows a user to display, sort and create records. Consider the use of drop down boxes to aid error free input.
When i add a new datasource i get to "Select database objects" page and then i get an error message. "Could not load "Microsoft.etc"", im using an access database with pre-created fields.
I have an issue with a data base updating it won't update for me in debgging mode it is stopping here on this bit of code which is highlighted in red. the error which comes up is .(update requires a valid update command when passed datarow collection with modified rows.)
Public Sub UpdateDataSource(ByVal ChangedRows As database.dataset1) Try 'The data source only needs to be updated if there are changes pending. If (Not (ChangedRows) Is Nothing) Then
I am using an update panel and when I click a button it will update all the panels. updapanel1.update() is very simple, but my data is not updating unless I hit the button twice. My gridviews shows data for a selected user, and then all the grids reflect that users data. works fine all the update panels work for the gridviews. Now for somereason when i try to do a row count and update the panel with the summary, it does not work, i get either the previous users summary or if i hit update again for the same user i get the correct data.
