I'm using ASP.NET 2.0 and VB.NET. I have a login page. If I am an existing user, when I log in, my user details are popped in the respective textBoxes. Now I wish to change one of these fields. I edited one and then clicked on the Edit button to update the record. It's not updated but instead it brings the existing value from the text box.

So I have a list of names in a .txt file. Where is a place I can type in all the names I want and press save and get a link so they can see the list. Then I can remove a name and press save and the name will be gone. And or add a name. So basically I need a website where I can type something and keep it uptodate. I've tried ripway but after you edit the list and save it it doesn't change.

View 2 RepliesI am using VS 2008, Windows XP R3, and Visual Basic.When I open some forms in the form designer, (In Solution Explorer, right click on the form, then select View Designer) the form always opens as Edited. An Asterisk "*" appears after the form name in the open window tabs. If I open the form to just view the code (In Solution Explorer, right click on the form, then select View Code), the form opens normally. This happens for just some forms.
It always happens for the same forms, and never happens for the other forms. What I am missing in those forms where the designer always thinks the form has been edited?

I just want that my sql files should not be allowed to be edited once i install my app on some other computer through say "sql server management studio express". Updates are happening on the load of a dropdownbox This has something to do with autopostbacks and the page load I think, can someone please help When I click the add button even if I have selected an item in the listbox, it will always return an error message. I don't think the listbox changedselected item is firing.
I have inherited a large VB.NET solution that was created in VS 2003. I am trying to update it to VS 2008 to maintain it. I no longer have access to an install of VS 2003.
The solution contains 15 projects that are console applications and 1 that is a Website application. The website application refers to some assemblies in the other console projects.
When I try to open the solution in VS 2008 all the console applications open but as it tried to open the Web application (or website? -- not sure) I see the dialog "Trying to open http://dmedibiz/dotcom.vbproj". It is unsuccessful in doing so. I don't have a website named http://dmedibiz on my development machine.
I tried changing the name of the website in DotCom.vbproj.webinfo, but that does not have any effect in VS 2008. When I go so far as to change the Hosts file so that the local machine resolves "dmedibiz" to the proper folder on my local machine, I keep getting prompted for a login and cannot access the folder even using the administrator login. I have tried adjusting the security on the Folder and in IIS Manager and even in the Frontpage Extensions, but nothing works.
So, what can I do to open this web project along with the other projects whose classes it references? Is there a way to change the website reference in the upgraded application? I actually do not want Frontpage Extensions in the site, but there was some reference to that also in the erro messages about installing them to "fix" the problem.

Can anyone tell me how to change the website location reference? Or must I remove the Web project from the solution and create a new Website and then copy in the files that need to be worked on?

I'm trying to show a custom contextmenustrip on my datagridview and it works fine except when the cell is being being edited. Then it shows the default windows contextmenustrip with copy/cut/..Is there a way to overwrite the DataGridViewTextBoxCell contextmenustrip or disable it? I am using a number of tables on my application and two of which have a foreign key constraint I have set between them. When I change the account number on the main table via a combo box all of the relevant information for that table on the form is updated accordingly. However, the child table which has a foreign key reference to the Account Number of the main table is not updated when the acocunt number is changed. I have set the update to cascade in the references but still am having issues.
View 5 RepliesI have a multilingual company website (Visual Studio / VB / ASP.NET 4.0), and when, on the homepage, you click a flag, the text changes to that language and stays with you the entire session, after I made a class, BasePage.vb. Everything works great, but the URL never changes .... clients.aspx remains clients.aspx although the text DOES switch to Dutch.
It's been recommended by @Aritstos to make it so it looks like clients.aspx?lang=nl as opposed to just clients.aspx in another language.

View 1 RepliesI have a webpage with a form that is used to edit some object. This object contains a Collection of other objects defined like this: Public Overridable Property Employees As List(Of Employee)
On a form I can delete an employee, add a new one or modify existing one. When I click save new values are sent to the server. On a server I check if the user exists. If exists then I modify its values, if it does not exist then I add it. All employees that exist on the server and were not sent are marked as deleted (State changed to EntityState.Deleted). I try to use the following code (dbCollection = database entities, newCollection = collection sent from the form):

This code does not work, because changing to EntityState.Deleted removes the object from collection, and for each loop breaks, since the collection is modified...I know that I can overcome this problem by using a for loop or adding objects to delete to some other list first, but I hope maybe there is a pattern that would make my code nicer.
What I want is: To scan a website every 15 mins or so, (craigslist in this case), and email myself any new posts that come up. I know I need to use WebClient, but I never used that before. Another question would be how to only email when a new post is up and not receive the same email every 15 mins.

View 6 RepliesI have a ASP.NET 2.0 website created in C# that acts as a completely independent site and I am looking to integrate this into an existing ASP.NET 2.0 website created in VB.NET. Unfortunately I just don't know much about the server management side of ASP.NET yet so too much I'm unaware of when it comes to IIS configuration etc. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can go about integrating this? Basically I want to host it in a subdirectory from root so when you hit example.com/myindependantsite/ it will pull up my C# site.
One possible solution I came across mentioned just dropping the project folder into the root directory and setting up that directory as an application virtual directory in IIS? A few other random questions were small things like would my application relative links (~/for-example.aspx) stay relative to my root subdirectory if it's made into an application virtual directory? Just trying to get this running on their site but like I said it's completely independent so want to preserve my websites environment.
I want to create a program to fetch information from a website (that's fine). However, you need to be logged in to get this information. I just want two simple textbox controls that I would type my username and password into and hit submit and the information would be returned to me so I can use it. I have two combobox in a form: Cb1 and Cb2
When I load the form, Cb1 and Cb2 are connected to a bindingsource.
When I change Cb1, the code (below) changes Cb2 to show only the items according to Cb1
This is working fine.
The problem is when I change Cb1 , change Cb2 and click the save button..... Cb2 seems to be 'lost'...
I'm using VS2008.
