For a test scenario I have a dll project. In the project I have 1 generic class 'GlobalData' and 1 form 'form1' in the generic class I would like to make a public shared newForm1 as new form1 the line of code I'm trying is: Public shared newForm1 as new form1 I get the error newForm1 cannot expose type 'form1' outside the project through class 'GlobalData'. I really need to be able to make a public shared reference to form1. Any way to get around this? Background as to why I need to do this: I have several projects that need to use Form1 as a mdi child. I would like to just update the dll and not have to go back and update the same form in 50 projects.

I want to use certain functionality of VB.NET into C#.NET and hence I have added the dll file of VB.NET solution into C#.NET as a reference by browsing the dll from my system. Say dll name for VB.NET is myData.dll. In my C#.NET project I am trying to declare it as a namespace i.e. "using myData;" and its giving me an error of "Type or namespace name could not be found"
View 1 RepliesI've downloaded the MSDN "101 VB Samples" from the MS site and I'm getting an error that reads "The project type is not supported by this installation". I can open the other files that I've tried (about a dozen in other folders), so I'm wondering if it is something specific with the VSTO files, or something about my VB setup.
I thought at first it was a problem with the path where the file is sitting, but even moving it from C:Documents and Settings[my name]My DocumentsMSDN to C: didn't work...Edit: I have also tried opening in notepad and converting the file to UTF-8, changing the File Association from MS Visual Studio version selector to devenv.exe, and running devenv /setup at the command prompt, all with no luck (all these ideas were found through Googling the error message....).
How do I reference the library project when I get this error?

I've started to use a Vista machine for development. In case it is significant: I'm using MSBee so that I can code in the Visual Studio 2005 IDE while still building against the 1.1 framework.On the Vista machine, when I tried to build a particular vb project, I got this error:
error BC30464: Namespace or type'Compatibility' in the project-level Imports 'Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility' cannot be found.
The same project built fine on my old XP machine. I checked in this folder on my Vista machine:
C:windowsmicrosoft.netFrameworkv1.1.4322
...and sure enough, "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" was missing. So was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.Data.dll". Copying them from my XP machine to my Vista machine allowed me to build the project successfully.I'm just a bit puzzled as to why this happened. Why was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" missing? I'm also not very comfortable with my chosen solution - copying the DLL manually. It works, but surely there must be a better way.

View 5 RepliesThe company I work for has a VB6 project that is using an ACCESS database.The project consists of seperate modules such as Accounts Payable, Payroll, General Ledger, and Inventory.At the current time each module is a seperate project in VB6 and the EXE files are called when needed.In total there are about 1300 forms in the project.We are moving from ACCESS to Sql Server and from VB6 to VB2008.The question that I (we) have is as follows; Should we continue to keep each module seperate and call the EXE's or should we create one large project?What are the pros and cons for each way?Is there something written that explains the advantages of either?

When the button is clicked the public variables on Form1 get set to the values in the text boxes.This works fine.I recently had to add a module to my project so that I could use Main as the startup item. We have a typelib where we define some constants. One of our sets of constants is created using the module keyword:

I use tlbimp.exe in a bat file to generate a primary interop assembly for internal use.If I create a VB .net project and add a reference and browse to the .tlb file and import it, the result I see in the browser window is a class named MyConstants. If I click the class, the right hand pane is empty - the class contains absolutely nothing.
If I add a reference to the primary interop assembly, I also see the class MyConstants int he browser window. When I click the class, the constants show up.This is in Visual Studio 2010 (RTM). Why does VB .NET add reference via brwose to the .tlb file differ in this case? Is this a bug in VB .NET or the tlbimp.exe tool?

I have recently updated a legacy compact framework application to support Windows Mobile 6.5 but after going through my backwards compatability testing I have an issue with the WinCE 5 device.When attempting to run the application from both the EXE and the debugger I get the "An unhandled exception of type 'System.TypeLoadException' occurred in Unknown Module." exception but its not giving me any idea which dll / type it has issue with.The changes do work on the Windows Mobile 6.5 Motorola device and the Pocket PC 2003 Psion Device but not on the WinCE5 Psion device.Does anyone have any ideas how I can find out which reference is causing me the issue. I have tried removing the new references to the Symbol barcoding and imaging libraries but I am still getting the same error.OK, it looks like the .Net Compact Framework installation had corrupted some how. I flattened the device, reinstalled and everything appears to be working.
