If this is related to the Security Certificates stored by XP, then I'm in trouble as they are GONE. Must I start a new project and rebuild this whole app?

I can't open "ONE" page of .pdf file using IE8 and give me an error message "the file is damaged and could not be repaired" when retrieved from SQL Server 2008, but more than one page I can open with no problem.
With Chrome I can open any number of .pdf pages.
The same page that I can't open using IE8 from DB, can be opened directly from hard disk using IE8.

I have a Motor Class, along with a Collection to hold objects address. Each Collection object holds the Class fields as a String to display in list box. I am able to write the collection string to the file and save the string. But unable to open the existing file, read the file back into the collection object.

I have run this program man times before. I just added a Windows Form InputCrossForm.vb to my project. When I dbl click on the error message I get a message box title bar "Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express" with message "The definition of the object is hidden." Not sure what this means nor what to do to fix it.
I am writing a program that acceses a file in VB/Visual Studio 2008 on Win7 and running it as a user who has admin credentials. I am opening the file with the following code:
Dim Input As New FileStream("C:FileTest est.txt", FileMode.Append, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.None) To test to make sure I can't access this file, I tried to open it with Notepad and I was able to and got no errors. I wrote a new value using Notepad and even saved it and I didn't get any errors form Notepad or my VB program.
I then went on and treid to open the same file twice from my VB program as:

Dim Input2 As New FileStream("C:FileTest est.txt", FileMode., FileAccess.Read, FileShare.None)
And I receivded an error in my VB program as expected. So the FileShare.None switch kind of works. Although I was still able to open the file with Notepad while my VB program had it open. I was aslo able to open Windows Explorer and reame it and even delte it while my VB program had it "open", in the write mode no less without my VB program knowing anything about it.
Why are other applications able to ignore the FileShare.None switch? Seems pretty useless if that's the case. And a huge secruity problem

In Visual Studio, how can I open a source file (from another project) in read-only mode? I want to copy some code from it, but I don't want to modify it by mistake.I don't want to change the file's attributes to read-only, as I will not be able to work on it later, unless I clear read-only.

Error 11 Unable to copy file "objDebugCAMDRS.Library.dll" to "binCAMDRS.Library.dll". The process cannot access the file 'binCAMDRS.Library.dll' because it is being used by another process. CAMDRS.Library.

View 2 RepliesI don't think I can use my student account visual studio for commercial purposes. However, I can't afford eight hundred dollars for visual studio. I talked to a Microsoft rep and they said that with the visual basic express edition I won't be able to code anything or debug anything.
Does everyone here have visual studio professional or above? I was studying hard on my visual basic so that I could get started doing contract work on my own and hopefully start a software company after I get out of school. Now I don't know what to do. My next thought is to keep working on my C++ so that at least I can develop and deploy apps with free IDE's.

Using VS 2008 and creating a style sheet in the Studio I noticed that when I wrote the word filter, it was not recognised by intellisence. Is there a bug in VS 2008? I've been assigned a web app written in VB using VStudio.net 2003. I am trying to configure the source on my localhost (VStudio 2008) so I can explore and learn about the current app (before I begin any real changes) and I cannot get debugging working for the web service project(s).
Symptom 1: "Unable to automatically step into the server. The remote procedure could not be debugged. This usually indicates that debugging has not been enabled on the server. See help for more information". This happens when I try to F11 (stepInto) the proxy class which invokes my actual web method.
Symptom 2: Pre-setting a breakpoint in my .asmx file code on the statement that will be invoked does not work (i.e. the debugger simply doesn't stop). Having described the situation, here's how my VStudio Solution is configured: Service1 - project created from the VB - WEB - ASP.NET Web Service Application template; this Service1 project contains my main .asmx source code I want to debug. I'm running windows vista. I get the upgrade for sp1 via windos auto updates. I then it adminstration by right clicking on the shortcut. I open up visual basic, I can't open my projects.I can click on the link, do it via file. None of the files will load up or open.

What I have is on my form there are several text boxes. These text boxes are for user input and attached to each text box is a Private Sub txtBox1_KeyPress function. In that function I have some validation code to check that the user is inputing only what I want them to. And if it doesnt it will pop up a message box telling them so, then it is supposed to clear the text box so the user can try again. But no matter what I try, the text box does not clear it still keeps the last character typed (the invalid one).
Here is the code for one of the text boxes.

The commented methods at the bottom are some of the other things ive tried to make this work. The txtLanIp.text.clear() is what ive tried from the beginning. I have also tried setting the text to "", I even created an empty string and set the .Text value to it but no matter what it wont remove that character. I have also tried various trim(), len(), Select() functions, most either give me an 'index out of range error', a 'length cannot be less than zero' error or a general ExceptionOutOfBounds error. I am just tearing my hair out as to why the simple way doesnt work, there is no logical reason why and it gives no error it just doesn't clear the box.
I have also tried moving the validation to a _LostFocus but e.KeyChar isnt a valid method or property for that declaration, which doesn't surprise me but I wanted to try everything.I dont see how it would matter in this case but I am running Windows XP Pro SP3, though I also see the same behavior in Windows 7 64 bit ultimate sp1 and windows 7 64 bit pro.
I have tried over 10 different ways, but have not been able to open a web site with Visual Studio. Is it possible?
View 8 RepliesI have installed all of the patches and Hotfixes that I can find and truth be told, this is so enigmic that i dont know where to go to.I have been working on a project for a year and just recently I went to add a database (data source) and the Tab was gone. I thought I did something wrond so i went to Data -> Data Source and nothing happens. whats funny is that I cannot do what I want and add the datasource.
I also have VS 2005 installed (which I am forced to use) and here I have no problem.
Can anyone or does anyone have a simular problem and a resolution??I really would love to use all that is available in VS08 and not having to use a much older version...

View 2 RepliesSo there I was working on a project. I was putting the finishing touches on the GUI and clicked on the Image list I had added. VB froze up a moment, and when it came back I was on a code view of the form showing the properties I had just set up in the GUI. Suddenly, I can in no way view the form. I get a View code option, but no View designer. If I close out the project and open another, there it is "View Designer" right where I expect it. But in the project I was working on, it is just plain gone.
Is there something I am missing here? Can I recover my project?
If I run it in the debuger the whole form shows perfectly, I just can't get to it to edit it.
