I have a datagrid on a silverlight 4 application that I am trying to export to excel by calling the COM component for Excel in silverlight. It keeps error-ing out and tells me that the functionality is not supported. I can't quite figure out what is wrong and believe my code is solid, obviously not though.[code]
View 1 RepliesI'm having trouble with some Silverlight functionality. My goal is to get some data from the database and display it in my grid. Sounds simple, however, there are 7 columns that are always going to be there.
The rest of the columns depends on the account. There could be 2 (called Actions) associated with a certain account, compared to another account that could have 5, and the action names can be completely different.
I have successfully been able to return a list of all the possible actions for the given account, and then adding the columns to the grid in the code bihind(VB), and I can bind my data to the grid for all the columns that are already known. The way I store the item's actions, is a Property of type List. My problem is finding a way to iterate through the actions list of the Item object in order to bind those actions to the grid.
exporting a datagrid to Excel for the last few days. I have found quite a few, mostly done through C and the ones I have found using VB have not worked out. Would anyone have a link to a good tutorial online for exporting a datagrid using vb.net? My college project is approaching its deadline quick enough.
View 7 RepliesThis code works well however when data is exported to excel in one field some values are wrong. Instead for example populating 16-12-19 it populates 43815, 01-03-99 it populates 36220. Again, if the sort code is like 20-72-68 or 60-01-22 it is populated the same way, which is correct. If the value is a date lookalike then this problem appears, but if not then the exact value as displayed on the grid is shown in excel.
I inserted the code (highlighted in red) to set all the fields as text values. Right, it is exported and when excel spreadsheet is opened the field property is text, but the problem still exists. Why doesn't excel display it as it is displayed on the datagrid and database, instead of changing it even when set text.

I have a Silverlight Datagrid who's DataSource I refresh every 5 seconds.I would like when the grid refreshes, for the focus to be on the last row, not the first.I have tried setting the SelectedIndex property of the grid to be the last row, but it did not work.
The details:I am binding the DataGrid to an ObservalbleList(Of MyObject) property on it's ViewModel, and the SelectedIndex is also a property on the ViewModel. Both properties raise the property changed event (able to witness this working by seeing the DataGrids DataSource clearly changing, but the SelectedIndex is never set.I have read reports that setting the SelectedIndex on a DataGrid is a known issue, but have not found a work around.
I have data bound to the silverlight 4 datagrid and now I want to grab the value of column 0, row 0. How do I do this? I can't find an example anywhere and this should be so simple.

That works ok, the problem is when I use the same stored procedure to bind a different dataset to the same grid, it doesn't display the new data, only empty columns from the last dataset that was bound. What is going on here? I tried to set the grid = Nothing and I tried using Datagrid1.columns.clear() but that didn't work.

The application uses a COM Wrapper access a scanner in Silverlight. The object is created dynamically in the code, and an event is added to "AcquirePage". This requires elevated trust of course.
Code in C#:

As the only real "equivalent" of dynamic in VB is Object, we use:

Everything is fine up to the point we want to handle an event of this Object. Because we are in Silverlight, we cannot have knowledge of the Object's structure or events, hence the need to create it dynamically. In C# we simply use "+=" to add a handler to an event but:

I am exporting data from vb.net to excel and it is dropping the leading zero when its displayed on excel. How can I avoid the dropping of leading zero? I read the solution of adding a single quote but it makes my excel sheet column ugly. Also users will complain if they see a single quote on zip code field.vb.net code

I have an asp:table which I want to exported to excel. One of my fields are alpha numeric and when exported to excel the leading 0s are stripped off. After going through this thread: Validation (CSS 2.0): 'mso-number-format' is not a known CSS property name I would like to use the css method "mso-number-format:@;.But the css is not exported to excel. I just tried to test it with simpler css things like bold font etc but its not getting carried over. I can see that if I surround my asp:Label with tags this change gets carried over to the excel but not the css bold . Other solutions in other thread does not work for me as ="00111" shows up as desired in excel but in the web form it shows up as ="00111" which is not what i want.
