Feb 7, 2011
I have created a usercontrol. I would like to add one of these user controls per record in a recordset.
I have almost all the code created ready, and the control ready and available for use, however i can not find how to add the new control.
How do i go about this
I have my user control contained in a project Continuous_Form_Control1, called UserControl1.vb

I'm trying to retrieve some data from an Excel with the following [code]...
At some point the Recordset encounters an empty cell which it can't assign as a to Recordset.Fields("BG").Value. VB2010 will then throw an error: When casting from a number, the value must be a number less than infinity.
correct syntax for checking on an empty cell?

I am trying to delete a record from a table by using dao recordset. Currently I am working with the code listed below. Unfortunately i've realised that this code only deletes the first record in my table, whereas I am looking to delete a record form the table with an ID that I would have put in textbox1
Private Sub btnDelete_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDelete.Click
Dim AccessEngine As New DBEngine
Dim db As Database = AccessEngine.OpenDatabase(DatabasePath)
Dim dbs As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Access.Dao.Recordset = db.OpenRecordset("myTable", RecordsetTypeEnum.dbOpenDynaset)
dbs.Delete()
End Sub

I am handling many of the BindingNavigator tasks (MoveFirst, MoveNext, etc.)in code to ensure that I always ask the User to save his changes.
The one area I am have a problem is PositionItem. I would like to sense that the User has changed the Record Number in the BindingNavigatorPositionItem, handle my record Update, and move to the Record Number the User entered I have looked all over and have not found any way to do this.

Basically i am making a software that will be interacting with a database (sql).Now what i wanted is a loop which after every 30 minutes, connects to the database finds some info and executes a bunch of statements.For the sake of testing i have made the timer tick at 1 second, and display a record in a database in a label continuously just to see if it works (i will later make the tick 30 min)Now this is what i have tried till now , it prints the record in database perfectly after 5 seconds, but after that just fails.[code]I want to infinitely make a loop in which after every 30 minutes has passed it would connect to the database get a record and then use the value of that record to perform some operations. And this has to be done in the background.

There is newer code in a follow up post. I suggest using the code in the later post rather than the code in this one. You can still read this post though. When designing a user interface, one should be conscious of how many individual controls are required to implement the functionality. In some cases an initial design may begin with many buttons or textboxes (for example) but then further review of
the actual required functionality allows for a reduction in the number of unique controls.
But other times, there isn't a better way (which will still make sense to the user of the application) then to have a series of many repeated controls. So in the cases where one can be certain that the best UI implementation for an application will require the use of multiple copies of a given control, then it often becomes necessary to maintain some method of managing all of those controls at various points
throughout the application. Doing so typically requires that one build up some collection of controls which can then be accessed by index in order to work with any given control; but this can lead to a lot of clutter in the code file which handles these control's events. For instance there will be some kind of collection declaration, some recursive routine to find all of the controls of interest, and then any number of event handler methods with long lists of Handles clauses, or additional code loops to wire up the event handling for each control.
Purpose Since most of this functionality could be considered a requirement regardless of the type of control being managed, or its required functionality, it may make sense to wrap all of the control management functionality into a single class. And since our first requirement is a collection of controls, then a base collection class could be the perfect starting point for our control manager. There are a number of existing thread around this topic, with some recent (at the time of this writing) ones being:[URL]..In this, and related, threads I have posted examples of a simple TextBoxManager and ButtonManager control. But again, with so much similar functionality required regardless of the control being managed, it would be technically possible to create a generic ControlManager(Of T As Control) class which can manage any type of control.
[Code]...
So in summary, one can facilitate managing a large number of user interface controls by building a "control manager" class which both encapsulates the list of control instances, and deals with adding and removing defined event handlers for every control it manages. The generic control manager class itself can be inherited and extended into a more specific class on a per-application basis in order to provide more application-specific functionality. I have a query about dynamically added controls to a form. I have a series of buttons which are created and added at run time. I have a two drop down lists and two buttons which are created at design time. Button 1 creates a series of buttons called "Test 1.x" based upon the selection of the two drop down lists. This works fine and am happy with the logic.However.... Button two should remove all the dynamically created buttons from the form.This does not happen. What does happen is that 50% of the buttons are removed starting with the first one. WHen checking the loop it only enters the loop half the amount of times that there are buttons. Very strange. When the loop is run repeatability it will remove all controls. Why will my logic not remove all the dynamically created controls at once? What is wrong with my logic?
I attach two code snippets and the .net file for your consideration.Button method which creates the dynamically created buttons from the two drop down lists and adds to form
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim Count As Integer
Dim MaxHours As Integer

I have some custom user controls in my .net winforms program that do not display correctly when the user has selected larger text size. This setting:
My controls look like this:
Instead of like this:
The bill to area and ship to area are both custom controls. I don't know if this is contributing to the problem but I do have code in each to scale the phone/fax areas to stretch nicely, like this code from the bill to control,
Private Sub panFaxPhone_Resize(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles panFaxPhone.Resize
panFax.Width = (panFaxPhone.Width / 2) - 1
panPhone.Width = (panFaxPhone.Width / 2) - 1
panFax.Left = panFaxPhone.Width - panFax.Width
End Sub
How can I get my controls to size correctly while still respecting the users choice for larger text (I don't want to just set the AutoScaleMode to None)? After playing with this for a long time it seems to be a problem with anchors in the child controls. See this below image, the inner black box is the control with its border turned on, the text boxes (like name) are anchored left and right and should stretch to fill the control, but don't.

I have very strange problem, here it is: I have a quite large MS Access Database (2003) containing exactly 68020 records (rows). The problem is, when i read the entire database directly toa data representation control like DataGridView or Listbox,only 66710 records are returned. The weird thing is: If i load the entire database to a in-memory datatable object, rows.count gives "correct" amount of records as expected, that is 68020What is the reason of that? Why DataGridView or other controls cannot have records more than 66710 items? Is there an internal limitation? (That's dread if there is).

I would like to know how do .net developers manage a large window application with a large number of controls, such as textbox , button, groupbox? I have seen a number of people do it this way : declare the controls as an array and initialize them one by one at run time . In this way it is easy to manage those controls because they can be accessed by array index; but this solution seems to require very good understanding of control's attribute such as its location, font etc. This could be a difficult task if the project is passed on to a less experienced developer and add changes to it.How do you deal with it?

Basically when a user clicks on a row in the DataGrid the TextBoxes, ComboBoxes, CheckBoxes and DatePickers all show the values and the user can edit them there and that all reflects in the DataGrid just fine.How do i go about using the same TextBoxes, ComboBoxes, CheckBoxes and DatePickers to add a new record?

We have an application that has a main form with a map on it. Right now the paradigm is to have forms that are displayed using menu items to display information to the user. Most of these forms are modal forms, but a couple are non-modal forms that interact with the map. For some of the forms, it really would make for a better user experience if we could dock them in the main form of the app and allow the user to see both the form and the map. For instance. We could have a list of map features in a docked window, and select one of the items on the list and have the map zoom to that feature. Or do the reverse: let the users select a map item and have a docked window that shows details of the feature. Sounds great, but I wonder about what sort of gotchas we may encounter. In particular, what if we have two windows docked at the same time? Could we get tangled up in our event code?

i've added new item called service- based database. after that, i've created doctor table, course table, exam table, and an empty table called exam_report to allow program selects randomly from the other tables.
how it works: first the user will get a form with many buttons: courses, doctors, exams, and exam report. second if the user click over exam report, a new form will appear with many columns. this form should has exam course - exam day - exam time - 3 doctors name who will observe the students.
behind code: the doctors shouldn't be the instructors of the course - the doctor has no appoinment in this day - the doctor has no hloiday and so on..
okay my code is the following :
Public Class Form6
Dim j, a As Integer
Dim d, f, h As Integer
